If (and thats a big IF) the Mazda 6 comes back to the US using the CX-60 RWD inline 6 hybrid platform it most definitely wont have a manual transmission. I'm ok with that since early impressions of Mazda's new 8 speed wet clutch auto are generally postive. Having said that I still have doubts they bring the 6 back to North America, sedans just don't sell well next to crossovers. On the other hand with their recent luxury push they could be thinking of taking on the Lexus ES, Acura TLX, Infinity Q-whatever. (havent paid attention to their lineup in many years) If thats what they're going for I think they could have some success. I mean even Lexus dumped the only mid size rear wheel drive sedan they had (GS) so Mazda could have that segment to themselves. Of course with the option of AWD for the fraidy cats who live in northern climates and think they need more than good winter tires for RWD. I think that would be one tasty package...and if done right could even give BMW, Audi and Merc some competition, especially if Mazda offers more standard equipment for a lower sticker price.

They dropped the manual 3 years into the last gen Mazda 6 due to low take rates, and the new RWD biased AWD platform was designed to work well with their new 8 speed wet clutch auto. Even the latest Mazda 3 offered the manual in only the top trim, and only with 2WD and naturally aspirated engine. I hear the manual has also been dropped for the '24 model year, same reason...low sales. I do think the manual would have had better sales if they had offered it in their top trim AWD turbo models, but they had packaging problems mating it to the AWD system.

Mazda6 production in chinese is going to be stopped sooon in this year, they are complaining the weak power train coz only 2.0 and 2.5L available. These days electric/hybrid power train models are everywhere in chinese market and mazda with natural aspirated power train is not competitive anymore

The reality is people can’t/won’t wait in line for a charger and then also have to spend 45 minutes charging. That experience has to get closer to the time and convenience of existing fueling stations. Same goes for range.

Honestly, whoever can bring us a proper affordable ICE/hybrid wagon first has my money. I would LOVE for it to be a Mazda 6 with the inline 6. I'm just really disheartened that the wagon is dead in the affordable segment. I wish any of the automakers would take a chance on wagons again, because I'd be first in line to buy one. However, a sedan inline 6 Mazda 6 would still be really cool, especially with a manual.

To give the "sedans" a fighting chance at all over in NA, they really should at least make them fastbacks with a hatchback liftgate. The standard trunk of a sedan just doesn't cut it anymore. I'd consider a Mazda 3 or Mazda 6 HEV/PHEV with a hatch.

I fully agree with your stance on BEVs. It takes tens of thousands, if not 100k+ miles of use to meet the whole "environmentally friendly" status. Most people wont keep it long enough to even matter. On top of that with the premium pricetag attached to a BEV it will take the same amount of mileage before the owners sees any actual cost savings from using electricity vs gas. Its all a scam.

People stick to spec sheets too much, even if the Mazda 6 comes with an inline 6 and AWD, it will not feel sporty at all. Gone are the days of zoom zoom, the new generation Mazda 6 driving dynamics will have loads of understeer, body roll, and dampened throttle control.

I would like to see a revised Mazda 3 with a narrower C-pillar. The cabin is too dark even with the optional sunroof. I would also like to see an infotainment screen integrated in the dash. As of now, the screen looks like a plastic appendage. Mind you, even the screen in the new Toyota Prius looks cheap. I smashed the like button! Stay awesome.

I love my 2022 Mazda 3 Sport GT AWD more and more after living with it a year. And they back them up with unlimited km warranty in Canada. I would kill for a Mazda 6 inline six longitudinally mounted drivetrain! Omg it would be such a beautiful premium sports sedan or wagon, or shooting brake oh! imagine how potentially beautiful a vehicle like that would be.

Mazda6 naming in China has always been confusing, they called the 1st gen Mazda6, and 2nd gen the Core-Wing, there was a period of time when both 1st and 2nd gen selling parallel for almost a decade in China, then the 3rd gen came they called Atenza which was the name Japanese market has been using. i think the next gen will be back to Mazda6 or 60 since Mazda is trying to unify its product names over the past years.

Hopefully the new Mazda 6 will actually be built for people taller than 6' (if it comes to the US). I was excited to try a 2021, found one in Soul Red and white leather, but I just couldn't get comfortable in one at 6' 3" with long legs. Tried all its competitors and I fit fine in an Accord, K5, Camry and Sonata. Actually ended up with a Legacy.

Really, that's odd. I was doing a lot of leg room comparison for cars as I'm looking to buy in the next year, and the Mazda 6 has .1" more than the Camry in the front and near an inch in the rear leg space. I suppose it's frustrating if the supposed spec sheets might be inaccurate.

My biggest fear is that the new 6 won't come with a manual transmition. If it only comes as an auto it should at least be a good one. What I've heard in reviews is Mazda's new 8 speed auto is not the fastest. Otherwise it will be a great drivers car with the inline 6 and rwd! Also I love Mazda's design and their interiors. Just please offer a manual, I will buy it.

In the UK it's been discontinued, very sad, I owned one a lovely car it was, apparently in a twelve month period they sold less than 800 units which is terrible, the design is old now, the infotainment system is old also, they won't be building a new model,

I’d DEF take a Mazda 6 with the inline 6 or tbh even the 2.5 turbo and a 100-200hp electric motor. With a 20-30 mile EV only driving range, good combined hp numbers and decent above 25-30mpg it could honestly be a high class punching offering WITHOUT A CVT. I might even potentially be at the top of the non-luxury Asian list given Mazda moving more premium.

As a huge Mazda fan with a 21 Mazda 6 Carbon Edition, I agree. Mazda is in no-man’s land with the CX-90. The same place Acura, Infiniti, Buick have gone to die. Really hoping they can steal some sales from the MDX because that’s the only chance they’ve got to compete in this segment

Thanks for the update here Kirk, what is Mazda’s business alliances with Toyota at this point? I know they share a plant here in USA and in the past Toyota has rebadged a model or two of Mazda I think under the Yaris nameplate correct? What I’m getting at is it would be a dream if Toyota since they’re hell-bent on buzzy 4 bangers and electrification, this beautiful smooth in-line six from Mazda to go into a future Toyota model. As I said previously Mazda would be dumb not to use the new inline 6 in other product, WHILE they can, they have 10 years of use of the 3.3 scheduled, and the 3.0 inline 6 for Europe. Australia gets the same CX-90 as NA and CX-60, only NA gets CX-70 wide body. Next year CX-80 for Europe a narrow body 3 row. Undecided if AU gets CX-80.

The location of front wheel arch shows those are FWD based sedans. Mazda will probably NOT use the same tech in China at all. Mazda hybrid tech is licensed from Toyota. Toyota does not allow latest version techs to be stolen in China.

Well mate I am absolutely against EV's they are a misnomer in my mind and I will carry on driving my 2011 Mazda 6 Sports Hatch back I have owned from new and is probably the best car I have ever owned and at 76 I have had many different "brand" cars. I think it is a pity they dropped the hatchback style from the newer 6 models as that is one of the greatest features they put on the model 6's.

It seems right for Mazda to let go of their obsession with inline 6, RWD ICE platforms, or anything in that regard. In BEVs or PHEVs optimal weight balance (biggest advantage of RWD-based ICEs) is easy to achieve. Using an I-6 compatible platform to build BEVs/PHEVs only increases costs, reduces performance and could be fatal for a smaller brand like Mazda (in China). Not to mention bringing an actual I-6. It is going to be seriously laughable from a Chinese perspective. Mazda should focus more on markets other than China (without entirely giving up on it) where they are not too late. Make a dedicate I-6 ICE platform (they said the CX90's platform is not suitable for a sedan) if there is a market for that. The Chinese heavily EV/PHEV regulation favored market has become too competitive and miserable for a non-native "backward" mainstream brand to survive.
