On his podcast BEFORE the Senate voted, Cruz mentioned that he told Trump's lawyers just not to screw up because there were only 5-6 Republican votes to convict Trump. Cruz was a juror (as was Mike Lee) who met with Trump's lawyers. When does a juror meet a defendant's lawyer in any other case? 4 years of zero consequences means all Republicans can be brazen about their corrupt intentions.

When the founders designated Senators impartial jurors they were appointed, when we opened them up to elections we removed their ability to realistically be impartial. There is literally no punishment for ignoring their oath, and there was a very real potential punishment of being primaried out of their seat if they upheld their vote. And it is not a court, we call it a trial but it has nothing in common with a court trial, it is a congressional procedure despite the label we put on it. Only a child huffs about an oath that is unenforceable. If a doctor violates their oath they lose their medical license, if a soldier violates their oath they get discharged, if a senator ignores their oath their voters re-elect them. If you dont see the difference you should take a course on how representative government works.
