Hey I'm just starting to get into Scopes thank you for all your videos you didn't need to use an attenuator for this?
@MechanicMindset8 ай бұрын
Not needed, the put out voltage is actually very low for this probe 👍
@colinreid7305 Жыл бұрын
Using the non-automotive Pico 7 software and the 2205a, when adding new probe is selected the equation pops up and you simply input 10000 volts and choose volts and not KV, all reading will be correct. There appears to be no need to copy from Pico automotive. This was an excellent info video as per usual. The Pico scope 7 software is very easy to use even for this old guy. Some computer experts and programmers complain on some forums, perhaps they have limited knowledge of automotive requirements and suggest that they view your videos.
@MechanicMindset Жыл бұрын
That’s right, it’s very easy! I think people who have used Pico 6 for a long time are still in the change curve. Maybe there are deeper reasons they don’t like it. We only scratch the surface of the PicoScope software capabilities 👍

@MechanicMindset If I’m using a Hantek HT25COP ignition probe wand. Do I need to use an attenuator on my pico scope 2204a?
@timkemp8665 Жыл бұрын
Very clear video, thank you. I have one probably quite dumb question. That probe seems to have no protection at all (as you said, no attenuator.) If the HT lead is faulty (i.e. insulation breaking down), do I risk sending kilovolts through the Pico into my laptop? Or is it going to go to ground through the probe's ground?
@MechanicMindset Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, maybe it will go to ground, I’m not sure what has less resistance. I will try to find out. It in my list of videos to make actually: see if it can take the spike 🤣

Thanks for the video. I have a little hard time to hear what you say at about 2:50. But i think that you tell us that the probe did not have attenuator(think it show 12v when you touching the battery), so you must connect an external attenuator? But isnt the voltage at the secondary ignition 40000-50000v? Is there so powerfull attenuators to buy?
@MechanicMindset2 жыл бұрын
Yes, no attenuator (possibly some components to clean the signal). The attenuator isn’t needed because we aren’t physically measuring the kV, just the magnetic field around the wire. The custom probe gives us the approximate relative kV reading. Hope that helps

I am thinking of renewing my 2204A for the 2406B with 4 channels, 50MHz bandwidth, sample rate: 1GS/S unlike the 2204a having 100MS/S, rise time 7ns unlike the 2204a which has 35ns . I think it would go well, what do you think???
@MechanicMindset7 ай бұрын
It will be a bit better, good memory too but I really think it’s best to save a little more and go for the 4425A. The 2000 series is still an 8bit scope with common grounds. And no access to any of the Automotive goodies. I got the 2405A recently and it’s great step up from the 2405a, still shares limitations 👍

When i close the time panel, invert turns off. If i open the zoom pop.up the invert turns off. If i do injector + secondary the signal invert turns off. Any idea of this strange behaviour of not keeping the invert on? Even though the invert button is pressed?

I just read in the Pico Forum that the 2000 series scopes are not made for use in the automotive industry. In other words, they are not made to be used on cars, more for lab work. Is this true?
@Leymora Жыл бұрын
What they generally mean by that is that the 2000 series is not suitable for high voltage testing since that would fry the 2000 series oscilloscopes. It can measure up to 20V but I believe it has protection up to 100V. It also has common ground instead of individual grounds per channel, which can cause some issues in very specific cases. In general the 2000 series is great for Automotive just make sure you use an Attenuator when you're working on things with higher voltage. 👍
