I have 22 years of Medical Billing experience, I’ve done it all in this field and I’m ready to learn something new and to advance my career to another level. Super exited I came across your videos, it’s very helpful…even for someone already in the medical field. Thanks!

I'm in AAPC's self-paced CPB+CPC course, and I don't regret signing up. I'm enjoying the studying and what I'm learning. I do have little bouts of fear every now and then, especially if I go into the comment section, because people with job experience are having a hard time due to their lack of coding experience. Meanwhile, I've gone from living at my parents' house to being a stay-at-home mother for the last 19 years. Now, at 39, with my youngest being 9, I want to finally have a job. I'm staying positive, focusing on studying as hard as I can, testing as well as I can, and praying that God opens the door for me to find a good job. My husband advised me to take whatever job is available, regardless of the pay or hours, and that's what I'll focus on when I start looking for jobs. I want to be a coder, but since it was only $1,000 more to learn billing, I decided to learn that as well. This way, I can increase my chances of getting my foot in the door, even though my main interest is in coding.

Epic is based in my city. And I work at the University hospital. I’m looking forward to working closer with Epic. We use their software in many places. My course starts on August 5th. I don’t have my books yet because they use ebooks and I can’t access them until class starts. Any suggestions on something I could buy to start off before I dive in?

Hi there. I started working on my CPC course through AAPC about 4 months ago. I'm unemployed so my full time job has been studying almost every day these past few months. I have no medical background or experience but decided to give it a try. I'm also doing the course self paced with no instructor. Needless to say I've been having an extremely hard time getting through the course especially reading through the surgical case studies and identifying the CPT codes. I'm having a hard time figuring out what needs to be coded and whatnot. I'm only halfway through and feel like there' no end in sight. A friend recommended to watch your videos but I'm kind of lost as to where to start since there's so many videos. I need help regarding how to break down the surgical case studies and identify CPT codes. Any tips appreciated! Thank you :)

I was looking at your book recommendations and some of comments on Amazon about the Step-By-Step Medical Coding textbook reviews were mixed. Some of the reviewers said you cannot get access to the quiz questions. So how would you know if you are coding correctly or not. I would like to get the books for practice, but they are expensive. Thanks
@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding Ай бұрын
They did change the access to quiz questions again this year, which has been a common concern. However, you won't find a better book for learning medical coding. No book will provide all the answers unless you're willing to invest thousands in the AAPC program, which includes their books. Despite the cost, this textbook is still one of the best resources for practice and mastering the material.

I am confused. I just got done with the course with Preppy and passed the "medical billing and coding specialist certification" exam issued through NWCA. Does this certificate from NWCA have the same weight as the certification from AAPC??

Okay but what if u just got your RHIA certification. Also I have my RHIT certification. But I don't have Healthcare experience. What should I be doing now? I've applied for patient registration, medical billing and medical coding jobs.

Hey Victoria, I'm pretty much done with my general Ed for my associates degree. I'm thinking of getting my Allied Health degree. There are a ton of classes for medical, billing and coding. Would that be enough to take the exam? Btw, I'm in Cali. I'm not sure if it's different in each state.

I am curious about job opportunities when I complete the preppy program. I have 22 years experience in radiology and started this program to make a switch out of patient care but it looks like most jobs I see say 3 years or more experience required. How do new grads of the program get a job in this field with no experience?
@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding 17 күн бұрын
Congratulations on completing the Preppy program! Transitioning into a new field can be challenging. I recommend leveraging your radiology experience by highlighting your transferable skills, such as medical knowledge, attention to detail, and familiarity with healthcare systems. Networking can also be crucial -- connect with professionals in the field through your local AAPC chapter.

I have two questions for ya'll...1 Is this a job that continually changes or is this something that will always stay the same, I like repetitive work because for me it's easier to learn then master and from the CPC quick test i took online it looks like it'll stay the same. 2 I've heard that a certified medical coder can earn up to 100k a year, is this true? and 3 will this generally be a work from home position?
@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding Ай бұрын
Medical coding is a field that continually evolves due to changes in medical regulations and coding updates. While it's true that some experienced coders, especially in roles like inpatient auditing or those working multiple or complex jobs, can earn up to $100k, it’s not typical for beginners. As for working from home, many coding jobs do offer this flexibility, but it can vary by employer and specific job requirements.

Hii! I’ve been indulging in all of your videos for weeks now. The one thing I’m really curious about is will this career path be hurt by Ai? It is a very intimidating feeling because I don’t want to do this career switch if obviously robots being able to do it. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for sharing your concerns. It's understandable to worry about AI in the medical coding field. However, it's important to remember that AI, like Maverick AI, is designed to assist and enhance the work of medical coders, not replace them. The technology helps automate certain aspects of the coding process, reducing the burden of repetitive tasks and allowing coders to focus on more complex cases that require human expertise and judgement. Moreover, the introduction of AI in the field opens up new opportunities for coders to upskill and work in areas like AI supervision, quality control, and more. So, rather than viewing AI as a threat, we can see it as a tool that can make our work more efficient and rewarding. Hope this helps alleviate some of your concerns! 😊

Is a health infromation managment degree worth persuing after you get your cpc
@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding Ай бұрын
A HIM degree can definitely enhance your career prospects, but the degree alone won't increase your pay. To see a significant boost in your career and salary, you'll need to pursue roles with more responsibility that utilize your HIM skills. A medical coder with an HIM degree will typically earn the same as one without it unless they move into higher-level positions within healthcare management or administration.
