Great to see this! I’ve also been amazed by the value of the H system on the used market. Not quite the same, but I picked up an H1 recently. I was looking for a medium format film camera for portraits etc. but wanted AF and some automated features to make shooting as easy as possible and not waste film! The most expensive part was the film back, which are getting harder to find in good condition, but the whole setup was much less than £2,000 including an 80mm with only 2k actuations! It’s a joy to use with that huge viewfinder, gorgeous lens and amazingly fast AF - love it 😁

Good video and great camera. How do you compare it against the X2D in terms of image quality? Does it make sense once the X2D has hit the market?
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
Image quality of the X2D is actually so good that I think your question whether the H6D still makes sense is fully justified. The H6D has besides an even larger sensor one more big advantage and that's the "True Focus" feature which is not yet included in the X2D firmware but hopefully will be included in a future firmware upgrade. Once the firmware of the X2D has all still missing features we are waiting for, the only difference remaining between the two cameras is sensor size which makes a difference but not a huge difference. For me, the X2D then will be the Hasselblad champion when it comes to price versus performance.

I would love to add a medium format camera to my kit. However, I don't think it will be a modular system like this one. The Fujifilm system has many advantages, although of course it does not have a camera that can shoot 150Mpx. The Leica S3 has, I think, the best weather sealing, and that includes the lenses. Still, I'd like to have a go with a camera like this. I might end up buying an older Phase One or something like that. Just to play around with.
@mathphotographer2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Karim. Maybe worthwhile to wait a bit since Leica will clearly modernize the Leica S3 towards a much better standard but keeping the terrific Leica image quality.
@photographiezautrement2 жыл бұрын
@@mathphotographer I don't like the 2:3 Ratio of Leica MFs. And these are small sensors. And given that the optics are not designed for MF Full Frame, I don't think we will see a Leica MF Full Frame one day. The result being the combination of optics AND sensor size, the rendering of the Leica S system is set back compared to Hasselblad, especially MF Full frame. The superlative quality of Leica optics is not enough to compensate for the small sensor. So the rendering is "dryer" with more brutal transitions. This is why these small sensors "respond" more like "large 24x36" than like Medium Format in the sense in which we expect to see it.
@Biosynchro2 жыл бұрын
@@photographiezautrement I think you are right: we will not see a bigger sensor from Leica. But, I think we will see a mirrorless ProFormat camera eventually. Perhaps with an SL mount. My hypothesis is that the SL lenses can cover the ProFormat sensor, but nobody has tested that yet.

Aftter many years of shooting the H system cameras, I found myself using the X1Dii more often--especially in travel abroad--so I dumped the H6D-100C and lens system and put my eggs in the X system basket. Also, I was afraid that Hasselblad was going to abandon the system and leave me stranded. I have never stopped missing it! More than ever after this inspiring video. Ugh. Question, I haven't seen you talk much about post processing. Do. you use Phocus or LR/PS, Now that Capture One is opening up to Hasselblad files, I may take a look at that too. Thank you.

Thanks Timothy and I am so sorry for waking up the desire for the H6D again in you :) In terms of post-processing, I generally work with CO22, LRC, PS and I also use Phocus - but only occasionally. Hasselblad RAW files I most of the time process in LRC.

Greetings from Russia! Thank you for your wonderful video. I am very glad that you were able to find a camera in such good condition for such a low price. It's luck! If you have the opportunity, please make a comparison of the perspective of medium format and 35 mm. I mean the same focal length in terms of each camera, and the aperture. I know that there are calculators on the Internet to calculate these values taking into account the size of the matrix. I want to buy myself a medium-sized large format. I don't like the mini-medium format like fuji. I think the perspective and volume will be different. I will be glad if you can make such a comparison. If necessary, I can send you a link to a calculator to select the appropriate focal length and aperture for the same depth of field in different formats. Thanks again!

Thanks Vladimir, I know how to calculate equivalent parameters for different sensors, have shown it in various tutorials on this channel. Hello quick question why would you purchase the h6d if you already have the iq4 anything particular worth owning both?
@mathphotographer2 жыл бұрын
Thanks William. The sensors of the H6D and IQ4 have a different color science. I like them both but there are scenes where I think the H6D will do better and there are scenes where I believe the IQ4 will do better. At the very end it also was an opportunity which created the temptation to buy the H6D: an almost new camera for such a competitive price tag :) In general you do not need both. And in terms of resolution the IQ4 is still superior (150MP vs 100MP). Both digital back can be shot on bodies with shift (XT for the IQ4, HTS 1.5 shift adapter for the H6D). So there is no need to have both except you are (like me) a bit obsessed by color science. Then having both can make sense if you find a pre-owned opportunity like I found. I would never have purchases the H6D in addition to my Phase One for the list price and new.
