In part of the video about constructing the pokerap, Brian explains that his favorite pokemon was always tangela, as he had a Tangela named Terry as a child. He was trying to complete his pokedex, and his "friend" Kevin Punt had the opposite game of him, so he wanted to trade with Kevin for Growlith, the last exclusive he was missing. Kevin, a total tool, demanded Terry in return for the growlith, knowing it was Brian's favorite pokemon. Brian was forced to choose between his favorite pokemon and completing the pokedex. He completed the pokedex.

So, after looking at tangela’s novelist for gen 1, I’m gonna bet that the final moveset for tangela is going to be Double team, growth, sleep powder and some grass move (probably mega drain since it recovers). Predicted movesets: Sleep powder, Mega Drain, Double team, bind; or Poison powder, rest, solar beam, bind. Rival battles: will need to be lvl 32 for SS Anne, lvl 39 for pokemon tower lvl 55 for sylph co and lvl 70 for pre-Elite 4. Gym leaders: brock will be easy with bind stun-locking him. Misty shouldn’t be too bad unless he doesn’t have absorb (lvl 29) by then. Surge will be tough with screech and thunder wave. Erica might be a little difficult with her having poison powder. Koga will be a nightmare but with use of sleep powder and a lot of luck, he will pull through after a few dozen tries. Sabrina shouldn’t be too bad. Blaine will be stupid enough on one of the tries to allow mdb to win like having rapidash not use fire spin or arcanine spamming roar. I don’t think i even need to mention giovani. Elite Four: lorelei won’t be too horrible outside of jynx... who will shut down many runs with ice punch. Bruno’s biggest threat will be hitmonchan but that won’t be too bad, shouldn’t be more than 3 tries. Agatha will be a wall. Lance will easy enough. Champion blue will be rough with charizard but all other pokemon shouldn’t be too bad... predicted lvl at credits: 83

maria saraleguy Because his stats are bad and Rock and Ground is an awful type combo. Onix is weak to Steel, Fighting, Ice, Ground, and is double weak to Water and Grass. That would be a nightmare especially going up against Jasmine, Chuck, Bruno even some Kanto gyms might be a little challenging like Misty and Erica. Blue and Red will be especially challenging

As someone who's actually used Tangela in official tournaments in later generations, I really enjoyed this look back at how it was in Gen 1. The movelist cripples it to an extent (like most other Gen 1 Pokemon, not really a point against it specifically) but the Unified Special stat gives it some much needed staying power to make up for not having Eviolite and the like. I've nicknamed Tangela "Tankela" for the physical punishment it can endure, and it was really fun seeing it enduring special punishment as well.

I'm using on in platinum rn, the only stab it gets are sand tomb, earthquake ( at 37), and fissure. It's speed is garbage, and the tms it gets arent to finominal. Tbh I think it would be a bit if a challenge
