Loss of mobility, (I had a fall and dislocated my hip) Now awaiting a hip replacement at aged 43. I already have cerebral palsy. So now need carers to visit my home. it’s massively intrusive. Some days it’s... well ..it’s just a lot. It’s been a few years since care started. you’d think I would be used to it by now. Honestly, I dunno what the catalyst was two nights ago, but it all came out at once. Maybe loneliness and my friend getting ill? Who can say! Just wanted to thank you for your videos. They really help me. such a ray of sunshine everyday, but especially on the tough days. Jersey, Monty and Nelly are my favs. George has such a calm energy, you really are truly blessed. I have had multiple orthopedic surgeries and needed home care for awhile afterwards and though it was appreciated, I was more than ready for them to be done. I totally understand how difficult it is to not have your home and your time to yourself. I guess all you can do is have gratitude for the help and watch bird videos as soon as they leave. Loneliness sucks, I hope your friend recovers and know that there is comfort amongst strangers. :*))

Marlene, when you»re shipping stuff, you let Merlin sit on the back of a clear acrylic chair. Those are very thin and not too comfy (or good for their feet) for birds to sit on. But there is an easy, free trick. If you go to a store that sells washing machines, dryers etc, they come with (often blue) hollow (thinner than the pool-) «noodles» on the outside of the hoses, protecting them. The «noodle» (or whatever they’re called in English) is already cut open straight down one side. Whenever they deliver machines, they’ll pull the «noodles» off, and usually take it with them as a service, and they will go in the trash. Ask the store to get some of these (or maybe dive for them in their dumpsters?)... Cut it to your needed length and pop it onto the top of chairs and Merlin (and the ohers) will have something soft and comfy to grip with their feet! If they keep picking them off, try fastening them with some Blue Tack (I buy white Blue Tack (! 😆) cheap from aliexpress ) inside the «noodle». If you can’t get it from such a store, a place like Home Depot should carry it in different sizes/thicknesses, as plumbers use it to insulate pipes etc... ☺️😘🦜

I watched that video 3 times!!! My favorite cat EVER was named Merlin and Zuri my African Grey loved him. He never bothered Zuri at all. When Merlin died Zuri called and called for him then one day just stopped. Every so often after 9 years he will out of the blue say Merlin. i have chills on this adoption!! Way to go Marlene!! Damnit! And you made me cry...again!! Hugs!!

The name Merlin totally makes me think of an old wise wizard, lol and he totally gives off that vibe. It’s always interesting watching how African greys especially process the world. Marlene, I am not normally extremely emotional but this video had me misty-eyed through most of it. I had forgotten about Merlin even though the original video was touching and the connection obvious. This was so moving and the fact that sweet Merlin also connected with George pretty much immediately was also so amazing. I grew up with all sorts of animals from dogs cats horses rabbits etc. and I experienced how you can bond with them in such an amazing way but my African Grey her name is Chiku Our bond is as strong as a very loved family member. You worry as you would with your children, worry for her safety and her mental wellbeing, this is to death do us part. African greys are amazing and have unique personalities. Oh, Marlene. I was in love with this parrot from that first video where you went with your friend and thought, 'Why doesn't Marlene bring him HOME?!?" If I could possibly be a bird person, I would have brought him home myself. It was that video that taught me that if I DID ever decide I could bring home a bird, I'd go for an African Grey.
