I said this when I actually listened to it for the first time, but I love the idea that cersei was able to seduce them so easily because she has a British accent , which would obviously be foreign to them (also the actress for cersei has so much charisma it's not hard to understand why they fell for her so easily)

It's actually really cool how they do casting for characters. They let ANYONE apply for a role when they need one, regardless of accent, voice, gender, or anything else, and once they've found a good voice, they work everything else (e.g. character) around that. And even if you don't get cast as the character you wanted, you might still get cast as another character, which has happened.

answering the question "why pigs?" tw: mention to s.a no spoilers, mythology context only in some variations of the myth, Circe's island was attacked by a crew of some other Greek hero, whose name I forgot, and several nymphs, including Circe herself (who is a goddess in some versions) were victims of S.A., so she became super protective and turned all men into animals, but it seems that Jorge put them as pigs because of the phrase "all men are pigs". I'm not an expert in mythology but I think that's it, there are several in some variations of the myth, so I can't say if this is the most coherent. 18:37

Circe just turns men into pigs in the Odyssey. In Greek mythology she turns men into all sorts of animals(wolves and lions are the other two I know of). There are lots of guesses on why pigs but no real answer. Possible the crew were eating and acting like pigs, so she thought it fitting. “All men are pigs” probably wasn’t a saying in Ancient Greece so I’m guessing that isn’t the reason. Not to be dark, but possible she was craving pig meat.🤷♀️ The fourth song will hint at why she doesn’t like men so I won’t spoil that.

Im pretty sure the opening chords are a somber/minor key(??) version of "Polites gear up, you & I'll go ahead, we should try to find a way no one ends up dead" Which is super fitting because _last_ time Odysseus felt down, Polites was there to tell him everything would be okay (in "Open Arms") while this time there's no one to ask how Odysseus is doing AND they failed (to find a way no one ends up dead) Also, at the end of "Full Speed Ahead" Polites follows Odysseus onto the lotus eater island _This_ time, when Odysseus says " _We_ have to save them" he ends up going alone
@Silokkes3 ай бұрын
I'm fairly confident that the melody in the beginning before eurlyochus sings is the same melody when body sings "we should try to find a way no one ends up dead" in full speed ahead.
@Bluesh4d00w3 ай бұрын
13:15 It is also said that Circe transformed them into pigs because for them the issue of being host and guest is something sacred and the men of Odysseus probably exceeded either in manners or some attitude against the nymphs, which Circe being the hostess and who was doing a favor by giving them food and seeing how they "repaid" it with those lack of education and punished them. That's why in that part he mentions that it is a way to pay and forgive his mistakes.
@aerynlamar13473 ай бұрын
Many of us interpret Eurylochus in this song as being under Circe's enchantment after he returns to Odysseus. I won't say anything about why she might want them gone. But my thought process is that if no one returned at all, Ody would have definitely come looking for them - giving her more intruders to deal with. But if one man could be filled with enough fear to convince any others to flee, they wouldn't be her problem anymore. I don't think Jorge has confirmed whether Eury is actually being "puppeteered" during that conversation though.
@elieli28933 ай бұрын
My interpretation is just that Eury witnessed a bunch of guys turn to pigs, and decided that nope, better some than all of them, we're outta here :'D I mean, *he* doesn't know if there's anyone to even save, if it's possible to turn them back or if their memories and humanhood will still be intact. I think it's a rational choice to go "we're not going to risk all of our lives to find out the others were already goners, anyway" 🤷♂

While I can see it, Eurylochus is already demonstrated to be a coward (“captain, please!” “WAIT.” In remember them)

Also since they really don't bring it up in the musical, the crew members might have gotten a little rowdy which gave her enough reason to do what she did (meaning they might have gotten a little handsy, but my only real evidence for them misbehaving was the fact that one of the men got drunk and fell off the roof of cersei's Palace, so obviously they weren't completely tame/
@MJAnonymous60033 ай бұрын
I think Jorge has changed the story of Circe. It's been a while since I last looked into it, but I believe originally Circe turned Odysseus' men into pigs because they had been harassing her and her nymphs.

I didn't realise until you noted the piano at the start that the chords are the same as luck runs out!!! There's always something new to find in this musical. Also, the notes at the very start are same to the part of Full Speed Ahead where Odysseus sings "Polites gear up you and I will go ahead, we should try to find a way no one ends up dead". I see that as Odysseus grieving over Polites and feeling overwhelmed with guilt that he wasn't able to ensure no one ends up dead.

Holy shit ive never noticed that motif you called out at the beginning. Pretty sure thats an even slower version of the "waiting" motif that you start hearing a lot after the Underworld Saga.... I have listened to this song so many times and never noticed that. Im crying now because the character it represents in the actual Mythology actually died right after the storm carried Odysseus and his fleet away from Ithaca. Meaning that motif is probably playing here because this song is when that character died in the musical. JORGE WHEN I CATCH YOU JORGE

@Gladissims3 ай бұрын
That's one interpretation. Another, that I personally prefer, is that it tends to be pretty unsafe for a bunch of young and beautiful women (Circe and her nymphs) to be alone on an island with a group of strange men. There are so many stories of nymphs in particular being taken advantage of, sometimes against their will, that I can't really blame Circe for turning the men into pigs to prevent that sort of thing from happening. She even alludes to them having "faced a heavy loss" last time they showed hospitality... But yeah they probably eat them too.
