Thanks for the in-depth video. I have a 61" Skag and mow my 30-acre horse property. In the late summer - the pastures get really thick and the Dallisgrass seed heads are like cutting straw! the Skag is a beast, but when cutting at 5-6" (can't cut grazing pastures down lower if active) - i lose the lift and have to mow over sections twice - like you said. If I cut at 4" or lower - the 1st cut is muck cleaner. It doesn't worry me too much as I always like to go over twice to really mulch up the clippings so the dry quicker and disappear. Keep up the vids!

After having used these for a season and a half, I have to agree with everything you said. I love the bush hog concept and the toughness of the blades, but I'm having to go over the yard 2, maybe even 3 times because they leave ridges of half cut grass. Take that $300 and buy a few sets of good quality blades.

I replaced my factory blades with the Meg Mo blades on a 60" Z960 and have had very good results. I am using it at a rural property with lots of uneven terrain and unpredictable obstacles (rocks, ant piles, tree limbs, etc.) and the blades have performed very well so far whereas my factory blades were destroyed relatively quickly.
@alphaforce6998 Жыл бұрын
I had a Snapper Pro S150XT zero turn that came with marbain steel blades, and these were already very good. Then I later added the mulch kit to it, which included high lift blades. It cut very well, and the reason is the design and aerodynamics of the deck. That plays a far bigger role in the quality of cut than most people realize, and I think Snapper Pro mowers are consistently underrated because they're associated with "consumer" grade mowers. The thing is, even their consumer-grade mowers were as good as or better than many "commercial" mowers. If you get high-lift blades you need an engine that can turn them at the proper RPM, and yeah, that can easily mean 25-30 HP because if your engine is underpowered your blade speed will drop drastically with high-lift blades and the cut quality will drop. My snapper pro had the Briggs vanguard v-twin rated around 27 HP. It as such a nice mower.

@km066 Жыл бұрын
Another possible explanation is the time of year you are using the mower. I have fixed blade mowers that don’t mow as well in the summer as the woody stems of the weeds are harder and don’t lend themselves to being cut as easily. Keep that in mind as you evaluate your results during the course of the year.

Good video. I ordered a set of the Meg-Mo blades a few days after your original video about them. I installed them on my Ferris IS600Z and they are working great! The blades that came with my Ferris are great and discharged grass about 8 feet. The Meg-Mo blades are discharging about 10-11 feet. I am very happy with my Meg-Mo set and would buy them again. You mentioned other blades you wanted to try…. My favorite blades, after the Meg-Mo blades are the Fisher Barton “Marbain” blades which are excellent. The various Ballard blades are really good too! Ballard has a “low lift”, a “high lift”, and a “ripper” style blade. They also have an X-blade that combines a “ripper” blade with another blade in a “X” pattern that give excellent results. Especially in spring and fall with wet grass or leaves, but I have also used the X-Blade year around with good results. Hope that helps.

I have been running the meg-mo on a riding lawn mover with a 52 in deck (3 spindles )in Colorado with an almost pasture like field with many types of weeds. It works very well especially with all the small rocks that get hit. The only way I can get a smooth lawn look is to steer so that the middle of the mower is on the edge of the uncut grass (in other words half the cut width). That way all the uncut weeds are cut, and it just takes longer. Also the 20hp mower is almost not enough power with the meg-mo. And finally I have hit enough stuff that the set of blades needs replacing. I will now read more reviews on different blade types. Mostly I really liked the Meg-mo blades.

Just a thought … I am considering making a set of “x-blades” by simply drawing them tightly together, cutting them to proper length, mounting the sling type blades onto them using proper dimensions and hardware. That way I can run any combination of tips that I have available to me. I have already run the x-blades all summer by just crossing two blades at a 90, and have experienced no slippage. If necessary, I could just permanently pin the blades together. This configuration would give me the function of the Meg-Mo coupled with the 1/4” offset of every other cutting tip, which, so far has worked very well. Still plotting/planning just how to I want to proceed.

What I took away from this video is that the Meg-Mo blades are more suited for mowing larger unimproved areas that do not require a “manicured” cut. Say, an open field that you simply don’t want overgrown but isn’t part of a “yard”.

On the Meg Mos I’ve read on multiple forums that they don’t cut well, but some guys with lawn services will use them only for doing leaves. I tried the X blades on the 52” deck on my Toro 522xi with the adapter plates. I didn’t notice much of a difference in cut but it was more difficult starting the mower deck because of the flywheel effect. I had to release the tensioner arm on the mule drive, turn on the electric PTO and then get off the seat and re engage the tensioner arm on the mule drive. I returned to just using one Oregon high lift blade per spindle which is a good match for the long thick farm lawn I mow twice a month.

Most fabricated decks sacrifice air flow for longevity. A stamped deck will more cleanly move air, grass..and have a more powerful suction. Some manufacturers installed stamped baffles to try to better control this..but its a bandaid fix. These megmow blades definitely lack lift and the design itself seems to not take this into consideration...id assume because the mounting disc would distort if the 4 blade ends were "high lift"...and were acting as wings pushing down on the disc.

Doing the math, I just couldn't get over the swivel of the blades, considering that the purpose of a blade is to cut through grass, which when dense, could clearly cause the blades to swivel. Considering the longevity and cost of standard blades, I just couldn't see purchasing something that cost's 10 times as much. Is it 10 times better? No. Honestly, the only thing I can see good about them is the lower damage risk, but as anyone who has sharpened blades can tell you....15 minutes and your blade is good as new after sharpening. Thanks for your review!

Meg-Mo blades are really good, but the cost of the setup is expensive and the cost to replace the 4 knives on each spindle gets up there in cost. A single knife runs about $8-9/each or $35/spindle. With 3 spindles that's $100+ to replace the knives. You can buy almost 3 sets of Oregon Gator Blades for that price. If you have the money to spend on the Meg_Mo system, it's really great.

When I was younger I was a big John Deere fan for tractors , and other brand names for different products , cars and trucks , tools , appliances etc. And I believe that at that time my beliefs were justified. Nowadays , however , things have changed. For one thing very few products are manufactured in the USA anymore. Even if they claim they are 'manufactured' here , when you dig into it you find that many or even most of the components are manufactured in other countries , especially electronics. And they are only 'assembled' in the USA. And there is good and bad with that. Another thing you find is that multiple brand names are manufactured by the same companies , and/or share many of the same components. Everything is outsourced these days , so there isn't much of an argument anymore for being brand-loyal. Don't get too hung up on being brand-specific in your purchasing habits , unless of course if you can find products that are genuinely manufactured in the USA.

Blades are the same to get a nice clean cut you have to keep them sharp you can't cut for 3 weeks the expect to have a clean cut and scag mowers have the best high lift deck those blades look like they would do great if u opened the shot but the price is crazy

We try to keep away from Bar Blades here in Australia swing blades are the best ...and last way longer ...we have had swing blades ever since I was a kid on All 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines

Go simplicity bro. Probably the best lift most comfortable and sexiest lines. All my other tractors are John Deere but my finish mower will always now be a simplicity.

I paid $450 for my electric mulch system on my JD X590. Used it 1 season and ripped it off and threw it in the garbage.

Brock ur not wrong and don't change how positive you feel about test out a new product. I agree with you and can't wait for your to open this can of worms it will be fun and interesting. If you happen to get a kubota mower to test I say a z421 60 cut with the 24hp kawasaki engine. I have one and almost 200hrs on it and it's been great.

Thanks for sharing. Everybody seems to like those Kubota mowers

@@RockhillfarmYT yes sir. This is my second mower of the commander series. I got a z124 48" cut and 24hp Briggs when they first came out and traded it in on the one I have now.

If a company has been around for 30 years and you can get the owner on the phone that should tell you something.

They don’t clean the deck out well so the deck gets stuffed full and then it wind rows. Not best for wife mowers.

For walk behind mowers, I haven’t found anything better than my Honda blades.

If you mow deck is dirty and full of crap underneath no blade will lift the grass to cut ....you need speed and must be clean

The better the vaccume on the blades the better the cut .. Look for blades with better suction ..

Great idea. Doesn't warrant the cost.

I cannot imagine the huge lawsuit that will come down on you when one blade (2500 RPM/219 MPH tip speed) wears through the high strength bolt and kills your neighbors dog or worse. The discharge chute is on the deck for a reason, foreign object knock down.. I say good luck for those users who don't watch bold wear for (thin sections) in the high strength bolts.

As mentioned in the video, I don’t use them The mower has electronic mulch on demand that doesn’t open 100% when open so there’s still a metal deflector to knock debris down

A DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER of the meg mo, my 52 inch deck standard blades are 18 inches, they sent blades 17 3/4 inches they leave streak in semi heavy grass, DRY, we have not had any rain for 5 weeks. Probably usless in wet grass. Recontacted them all I get is ALL SALES FINAL.
@charlesstewart81295 ай бұрын
I have to agree with you. I am very Dissatisfied with my Meg-Mo Blades, I cut 12 acres and these blades are dull and the lift wings are almost worn into, after just one cutting. I complained and was sent a list of things to try and make them last longer but as of right now the Meg-Mo Blades last half as long as my standard high lift blades that I get 2 to 3 cuttings before sharpening. These were a complete waste of time and money. No way possible to recommend these to anybody, there junk!
