This is another Street Fighter clone but it has some flaws, for one the opponents are cheap as all heck and the overkills, well i managed to do one overkill to one opponent which is the highlight of the game. The sound effects are straight from Street Fighter on the Snes. Or theres a Sequel.....better get started with that one. -

The audiovisual part of this game is amazing, as well as the plot and character design. It's a pity that they didn't make the gameplay better. If they were like that, it would have been one of the best fighting games of the 90s.

Anyone who actually thought Mike Tyson was tough to beat on NES never fought the Eternal Champion, that bastard was diabolical. I still remember defeating him, it took almost an entire day of starting and restarting, with my mom screaming at me every 5 minutes to turn off the machine and do my homework and me yelling back, "yeah, in a sec, I'm almost at the last screen" Imagine going through that a few dozen times over the course of the day LOL.

I remember when I bought this videogame just after its release, on Christmas 1993 (many time ago!!). I was looking for Street Fighter II, but there was no cartridge of this game available (I guess it was the present numer 1 for kids of that time), so I´ve risked to buy this game. It looked to me awesome, a splendid graphics and sound, very huge characters, an original plot, fatalities... The only flaw, its difficulty. I remember having spent many many hours playing and It was very hard to complete it. The game was programmed so that the better fighter you were, the most difficult the game became. And also, you had to defeat the final boss, with 4 or 5 power bars while you only had one. The game wasn't so popular because Sega chose a very bad moment to release it: the same Christmas as SF II.
@etienneghada2349
@etienneghada2349 Жыл бұрын
Without the nostalgia blindfold, It's also because SF2 was more cute and colorful appealing to more people and the music was really something you can listen every day, the chip music of Genesis was strident and old and the music of eternal champions was not that melodic (problem of a lot of American games in those time) it was big on chords mostly, the gameplay and feel of SF2 was really good, genesis was way behind technically, also who wants the wannabe "SF" or "Mario" and so on. But this game was beautiful tho and the megaCD version is more interesting.

wow, havent seen or played this in 20 yrs. i did beat the champion as xavier the wizard. i remember(not too well) the champion with the silver head and face turned into a tiger, an eagle, something else than a shark. it did have a frustrating quality that if u lost u started all the way back but as a duel purpose it also made u determined to not lose, get thru all the subordinates and kick its ass when u finally faced him again. kind of like when uma thurman finally gets to bill at the end of "kill bill" in a weird way. 20 yr memories thought about for the first time in 20 yrs bring u down nostalgia lane filled with how your life was back then. not much goin on if i was playing a childish video game at 23.

I loved that game. It was way better than any other fighting game that was available on the Mega Drive/Genesis at the time. Well, at the time, basically the only good one was Mortal Kombat 1, which I loved too, but I think Eternal Champions had a bit more polished moves and game mechanics. I remember Eternal Champions came out not too long before Street Fighter 2 was brought out for the Mega Drive for the first time. I was super jealous of SNES owners at the time, because they have had Street Fighter 2 and we SEGA kids didn't. So when Eternal Champions came out, I kind of saw it as a substitute for Street Fighter 2 and I kind of expected it to be not quite as good and hoped for it to be just good enough, but then it turned out to be a unexpected jem and it was every bit as good as Street Fighter 2 in my eyes and I was really pleasantly surprised. Later, when we had a better (gory) version of Mortal Kombat, Eternal Champions, a bunch of decent Neo Geo ports and also finally got Street Fighter 2, even in a superior version compared to the SNES, the Mega Drive had become the best (regular, not counting the Neo Geo) 16 bit console for fighter games fans, in my opinion and had won the console war against the SNES, as far as I was concerned, hehehe. What I liked so much about Eternal Champions was not just the tight controls, but also the roster of different fighters, which were kind of exotic, unusual and cool compared to other fighting games, in my opinion. They not only had cool designs and cool moves that made them feel very different from each other, while still being well balanced, but they all had pretty cool background stories too, by the standards of fighting games, hehe.

I used to love this game growing up but it was impossible to beat. My go to was Shadow and you got to love that hair flip though lmao.

Yeah the AI was cheating like crazy in the game. Easily one of the most unfair games on the Mega Drive.

@@melaniel.4269 I hated it but loved it at the same time my second favorite character was Xavier. Between him and Shadow those were my mains in this game I just hate I was never able to beat it.

@@christopherlincoln4550 I mean the game is really good overall, i like the characters (Shadow and Rax for me) and the backgrounds but the AI drove me mad. So mad in fact that once i smashed the cartridge. Hence why today i only have the PCB left of it but somehow it still works :D

It's kinda crazy to me that with all the stuff they were doing visually here that they didn't use the same line-scrolling technique as Street Fighter II for the main ground area to give it an extra sense of 3D depth and perspective.

Loved this and Primal Rage as a kid. They were interesting takes on the fighting game genre but they didn't really do anything new or well. Fun to kill time trying to figure out how to do the specials though.

The Eternal Champion looks kind of funny. In the end credits, he looks like he would say, "You can be great like me one day."
