Interesting how Vienna seems to be focal point for the European train system. The density seems to spring out from there and go north into Moravia/Bavaria and other parts of eastern Germany. I think there is a fascinating history between the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires. The world could look vary different depending upon how this whole region played out. Will be very interested in your revisit into this map when you explore into these Hungarian and more south east regions. Happy New Year.

The location is definitely favorable for building train lines all over the Europe, but I still wonder if we aren't looking at some strong k&k Oberkontrollor bias on this particular map 😂 That's very true with the Ottoman empire. I'll have to do some digging and then we'll come back to this one :) Hope you're celebrating in style, happy new year!!

I’m so glad I found your channel. It combines the things I like, i.e. Asmr and history/languages/geography 😁 I’m especially “obsessed” with the Austro-Hungarian empire. Btw, I’m from Budweis and Budweiser really is the original name, Budweiser Budvar. Anheuser-Busch can only use the name Bud in the European market. Their beer originates in St.Louis where they started to make Bohemian-style beer (if you can even call it beer 😉) and called it Budweiser with no connection to Budweis whatsoever.
@MelangeASMR2 жыл бұрын
Hello, I'm also very happy you found me! Glad you're here :) Argh yes I remember when they had to change the name from Budweiser to Budvar and everyone in Austria thought it was just rude and unfair haha. Budvar is pretty common around here, also Pilsner Urquell, Kozel etc, but I don't think I've ever seen a Bud in a shop....

Wow! This was the most authentic ASMR experience I have ever got on KZbin. Exactly the same feelings I had got in my childhood listening to some teachers and librarians who had this specific manner of speaking. This video is very educative, too, for although I have heard all these place names in my history lessons, I had very limited knowledge of how they were situated geographically and interconnected. Thank you for this.

Tiny correction: From Salzburg westwards, the faster trains generally go via the line towards Munich which is on the map as well and then cut down at Rosenheim (the curve south of Rosenheim does not seem to have existed at the time this map was done) towards Kufstein.

Yes, thank you for mentioning it, I noticed that afterwards 😅 You can tell I don't take that train very often haha.

Constantinople remained the most common name for the city in the West until the 1930s, when Turkish authorities began to press for the use of "Istanbul" in foreign languages. Ḳosṭanṭīnīye (Ottoman Turkish: قسطنطينيه) and İstanbul were the names used alternatively by the Ottomans during their rule.

You're right about the connection btwn Budweiser and Budvar. Budweiser pressed the brewers of Budvar about their name in the courts decades ago and of course they caved. The decline of quality in Budweiser and the other traditional big German\Czech-American beers can be blamed on Prohibition. Fortunately, we (U.S.) now have thousands of tiny breweries to make up for it.
@MelangeASMR2 жыл бұрын
It's so odd to me that the beer from a city called Budweis in German can't be sold as Budweiser here, in a German speaking country lol. But as long as we still get Budvar, I'm happy, it's a great beer!
@eschsoapy28092 жыл бұрын
@@MelangeASMR lol yes! I had Budvar when I lived in Prague for several months (I went to Karlova U for a semester). It is a great beer. I think the problem was that Mr. Budweiser's family didn't like that their old world family brewery was competing against them. I guess that makes sense.

I’ve seen plenty of near fights from too much Bud in the UK. Was that line before Stevenson or was it Stephenson’s Rocket and the Stockton to Darlo as the locals would say. If you want someone’ attention in Darlington (Darlo) not Darrowby Alf you shout HOW. Is Darrowby a mixture of Darlington and Borrowby. Lubbots are Lowpin Gollops have fligged. What’s a Blacklock Yan Tan Tivvy. I was brought up by someone who was born locally in 1896 her grandfather was born locally in 1840 her husband was born in Jarrow in 1896 his grandfather was a boilermaker in Glasgow. Dad’s dad was unknown so I don’t know my surname. I’m the man with no name but I’m an engineer!!😂

I wonder if Istanbul was labeled Constantinople in protest? The Orthodox refer to the Patriarch there as the Patriarch of Constantinople…
@steveb69842 жыл бұрын
After some googling, it turns out Turkey didn’t officially change the name of the city to Istanbul until 1930. Although the Turks called it Istanbul foreigners still used Constantinople until the late 1920s until the Turkish government asked outsiders to use Istanbul for mail etc
