First of all, I want to say I'm so happy I found you. You know the struggle and PAIN of having type 4 hair and I think it is a PLUS that you're bi-racial. You know BOTH sides of the struggle and can confirm that our hair does not get the same love or attention that looser curl patterns do, even in our own natural hair care community. Sometimes people take one thing and appropriate it to their struggle: For example, because type 4 hair is the most difficult to care for with shrinkage and porosity, The natural hair movement can be daunting when certain tutorials are pandered to the entirety of an "ethnic" audience without exception for the unique problems that OUR hair present. Looking and seeing girls who are black and brown with a looser curl pattern to begin with, go through a big-chop-from-scratch natural hair journey, on some level seems, a little dramatic, especially when they never had to deal with shrinkage that literally makes your hair look like a helmet. When I saw your little 4C fro I wanted to cry. I've never truly come to terms with my hair texture and on some level, I think still I wish I had a looser texture, and most other black people will automatically put you in a box of a "self-hating black" if you feel that way. But it's not about color or jealousy for lighter skin. I am frustrated by THE TEXTURE because people and hair products seem not to cater to it socially, so I feel left out. I didn't realize it until I saw you, a bi-racial girl with 4C hair. Thank you for making a KZbin channel. Thank you for existing, period. Because sometimes it's not about solidarity of race OR color, but just something as simple as freaking hair texture, where I can really feel a true connection with a complete stranger's LIFETIME of struggle and know exactly where it comes from and pinpoint that sometimes it's not even about discrimination against skin color, but hair texture alone.

You’re hair has grown so much. I’ve tried the oil and the cream. I washed with shampoo and used a leave in conditioner and then the Melanin style cream, I only do wash and goes but no flaking. I only use the oil to fluff my hair out. My hair is low porosity.

I have 4c hair, but I am fully caucasian, my family tree all pretty much comes from Scotland, England and Czechoslovakia. I am always insecure when going into a predominantly African American hair care store, I am terrified people will tell me I am appropriating their culture. I would hate to do that, but I do need the hair care. I also do put my own small box braids in, to give myself a break from the complex hair care, and to help my hair grow. A group of amazing, confident black women taught me how to put in the braids, and helped teach me how to care for my hair. I am so grateful for them. My mom and I had no idea what we were doing for most of my life, she tried so hard, but coming from a predominantly white town, and a fully white family, she had no one to learn from.

I didn’t have any issues with flaking. I’m wondering if it’s because u cowashed & not shampooed...🤔 There may be residual residue from previous products. I always shampoo if I’m switching brands/products to have a clean slate.

I'm thinking the same. Usually when flaking occurs it's because there is other product in the hair or it's from the cowash, shampoo or conditioner that was used. Well at least for me.

So I didnt purchase the oil, but I did buy the cream. I didn't experience any flakage. I did wearable twists on blown out hair using my choice of leave in conditioner as Naptural85 recommended. My hair was moisturized for over a week I've also used the cream on wet hair doing a wash n go using my choice of leave-in and a gel. The leave-in & gel were not of the same line, I got great results. I would suggest trying this cream with a leave in if you haven't yet.

Thanks for the honest review. My hair is high porosity, so I don't remember the last time I had flakes with a product lol. There is no product that works for everyone unfortunately (maybe argan oil🤔?). That's why I would not say that 4C hair with low porosity should stay away. There are A LOT of other factors to consider. Otherwise finding the right product would be so easy...😞

I love your hair texture because it’s the perfect texture for a bomb twistout. 💯👌🏾 My texture is similar to Nap85 and I used it just has she did when she did a demo of her product on her channel. I didn’t have the flaking and my hair was soft and very moisturized afterward. I know this is her first time in the market I’m assuming in the future she may come out with more products that will cater more to women with low porosity 4c hair

i also have LP type 4 hair and i had a similar experience when i applied it to washed, wet hair. it didn't flake exactly, but it didn't moisturise my hair the way i expected it would, it does a much better job with dry or very slightly damp hair. i remember watching a video about LP type 4 hair, explaining that when the hair is completely wet it doesn't allow for as much product to absorb into the shaft, so maybe that's why. the oil/cream combo is a necessity for me too!

KZbinrs are raving about the products and I understand the genuine loyalty, but still tell the truth. I have low porosity and you have to seriously PLAY with the elongating cream. I LOVE the oil. But in my trials and error, I find that using the cream on soaking wet hair doing twists and sealing it in, works. I didn't have flaking because I used it on freshly washed hair and WORKED it in like seriously. Lol. Thx Joy-el, love your vids hun.

They did send suggestions of how else I might try it so for the first time a couple of days ago I put a little bit on a small section of completely dry hair followed by oil so I will experiment a little bit. Every time I open my refrigerator I was seeing that huge bottle sitting there thinking that's money down the drain. Wondering if I could mix it in a cream or something, because it has a wonderful smell, and use it as a body lotion or cream but that was not one of the suggestions sent to me. I would think the ingredients are okay for skin if okay for here. What do you think or what did you do with yours? Thank you so much for reviewing the oil too! So many people pass on it but these oils work SOOO well with the twist cream, it's not like every other oil out there and let me tell you, it works wonderfully on the skin too! As for the flaking, did you use a leave in before applying the cream? I have low porosity hair and use it the way she instructed in her videos (dampen hair, add leave in, generous amount of twist cream, oil) and get no flaking until I start layering it heavy throughout the week. I have tried it with other styles, using a gel too, and it doesn't flake until I try to add extra products.

I have low porosity hair and this twisting cream works best with a leave in conditioner in my hair. But I do wait until my hair is damp like you did. I also noticed the oil softens the hair when applied over the cream. I’m going to try mixing them together like you did to see if that also works for me. I honestly think it’s the cocoa butter and kokum buttes that make this harder to absorb

You are spot on when you say it’s too easy to go overboard because it is since it is sooo creamy. But once you find it that balance it’s amazing!!! It doesn’t give me elongation though. Yeah. I love Whitney. I have been watching her from her TWA days and she has honestly taught me the most invaluable lessons on how to care for my hair. HOWEVER, just looking at her hair tells me that what works on hers won't work on mine. Her hair is what we'd call in the Caribbean, 'coolie'. Its looser in texture than a 4c and it holds water. Its smoother and just looking at it you can see that it holds shine. That shine is actually water, in the strands. She's not exactly low porosity like many 4c's and her hair is just different and not at all the status quo. Without being able to touch her hair myself to see/feel the difference, I know that the products that work in her, wont work on mine. I only take advice on products from people who have very similar hair to mine. That's the key, otherwise you will be let down.

Steph Powell just a question but what does her being a “coolie” have to do with how her hair reacts to products? This is coming from a “coolie” 🤔
@stephpowell7648
@stephpowell7648 5 жыл бұрын
@ her hair is different from Joyels. It's quite simple. Naps85 may not have an Indian parent but her hair is similar to that of someone who is a coolie. Maybe she has throwback heritage, regardless her hair is not the same as Joyels and therefore reacts differently to products. For example, people whose hair naturally holds more water and is smoother can use products like eco styler and won't get flakes but someone with 4c course low porosity hair will almost certainly get flakes with the same product.
5 жыл бұрын
Steph Powell I am just a bit confused why the “coolie” thing is relevant.. why does she possibly having Indian heritage matter? How does that determine the health of her hair? My mother is also considered a “coolie” and our hair is completely different and reacts to products different, so I really don’t get it. It’s literally like saying “her hair is that way because she’s mixed” and that’s not progressive at all. And, I understand the concept of hair porosity, density etc. very clearly, I am just a bit confused at the relevance of that.

My hair did not like it. For wag or twistout it left white stuff on my hair maybe you have low porosity hair like I do. I ended up giving away the two jars I bought

Did you hair naturally grow ends? Or you had to trim it or something? I chopped mines about 4 months now and the ends are really blunt

I think people with finer hair are okay with this product. Your pretty hair is very thick and so you can not say this product isn't good for everbody
