Top Tier Tutorial! Edit: I've been playing since 2002 and was still able to learn a few things here. - I really need to step up my dtilt game, I always thought fair to dashback was the superior choice for some reason, but this was an eye-opener - I absolutely love the "when Sheik is on a sideplatform, pretend she is in the air" analogy! Sheik's shield/shai-drops really are one of the scariest among the whole cast Thanks for your dedication!

I'd love to see more matchup guides like this, a lot of helpful tips in this video, and a lot of ways to get better in the matchup, like not get tilted and go for a risky option. Maybe another video explaining how to win as Shiek in the same matchup? Other than that, this video was very helpful, thanks!

I found the casual style really useful. You cover many topics and show many in game examples. Different level players will see the basics concept or more depending on their skill so it has something for everyone. Keep them videos coming and congratulations on 100k! Low-level Marth habits that are implied in the video that you should stop doing (from a Sheik main): 1. Fsmashing her recovery immediately - Every Sheik is ready to shield/DI it if you throw it out immediately. Notice how Kira said watch the recovery and walk to space tipper. Don't just wait at the tip of the ledge and cstick forward. Sour spot just gives her another chance to recover. 2. Shielding/fsmashing after getting up from the ledge - like Kira said, don't be impatient, but don't be a sitting duck. Watch for the Sheik to move and stuff her. 3. Full hop double fair/late non-tipper fair in neutral against grounded Sheik - it basically never leads to a combo or grab. Generally just gets CC grabbed. Use more dtilt and db grab instead. 4. Stop counterattack after dthrow - notice how Kira said it's not very easy for Sheik to do much out of dthrow. Don't throw out an aerial immediately (unless you have a read). Move to a position where you can reset neutral or where you can punish her attempt at following up (at low levels, usually ftilt/sh fair).

Not going to lie, being patient is not matchup specific. Some of us can definitely learn from this, even if we don't play Marth. I do like the character specific stuff too though, such as the down-tilt into grab follow ups and dash dancing Sheik's approach options.

What I would do is start the replay, then right click that version of dolphin on your taskbar (not always the same as the dolphin you use to play Melee) Then… tbh I forgot lmao but somewhere in the preferences or properties or config or somewhere you can disable the names. I had it on before but my kid messed with my pc and now I can’t right click or use the start menu

Hey Kira ! A (Any anyone reading this) Im a fairly casual player, but i have been playing for 5ish years now and im friends with darkgenex. As marth i actually like (in order) the shiek, marth, peach, puff, fox matchups. Falco can be hard. But I absolutely HATE playing Captain Falcon. I find the most success when trying to CC him, dash towards him and just beat his aerials with fsmash, ftilt or dancing blade. I get torn up when i try to dash dance away, specifically, by overshoot nairs and stomps. Which just leads to a knee or a grab knee. Any insights ?

He can only nair in place or nair with fulll momentum forward. If you stay outside that range or between it he can’t actually hit you (like you said you can dash towards him and it’ll go under his aerials)

The thing I hate about sheik is it seems like she can whiff so many moves and still get the next hit anyway. Something that rlly helped me with the MU was wavedashing to ledge during edge guarding. If not, the sheik can often get ledge so free

At 7:39 what does it mean abt a three frame buffer? Is this for escaping any throw?

It is for escaping any knockback (actually ANY lag, I think... but might be wrong) frameperfectly as soon as it ends, when the input was a bit too early. It is just a (as far as I can tell) universal buffer when using stick-jumping. Pretty sure this also makes meteor-cancelling more efficient, but needs to be confirmed. X/Y also have some buffer properties when receiving a lot of knockback (for example when being hit hard offstage), but it's weird and I don't know all of the details. I know it's actually literally random in a sense though. Iirc when you get hit at >100%, there is a 30% chance, that your character will be put into the rapidly-spinning-state, which for some reason seems to prevent X/Y buffer jumping. I learned this while experimenting a couple years ago.

Basically if you use the control stick to jump out of combos, you can do it up to 2 frames too early and it’ll still jump as soon as you possibly can

One thing that the video didn't mention is that Marth compared to the other Top Tiers actually has a harder time edgeguarding Sheik due to Amsah Teching and the video didn't even mention how to deal with it smh
