These tools + a couple Aliexpress Makita batteries = the best low budget tools I can come up with. Actually just scored a great deal on a wee Makita battery mower for my garden. DLM330 mower + 4Ah battery + DC 18 SD charger for only 209€ because I had a discount coupon. The DC 18 SD is Makitas SLOW 18V charger, it has no fan and charges a flat 4Ah battery in 90 minutes. Im actually pleased that they gave me this charger with the mower since the fast chargers all have annoying Fans in them and they bloody cook the batteries by shoving too many Amps into them. Also constant fast charging severely lessens the useable cell lifespan. So now that im in the Makita Ecosystem ive already bought the Mellif 18V drill.

The option for the factory to switch battery types on the belt sander is a game changer. What a simple solution instead redesigning a whole new shell case each time. Very impressed overall with these mellif tools, even went to try and buy the dewalt fit of the grinder but could only find Makita fitment. I'll keep an eye out for one.

They are super cheap and for the DIYer they are perfect. I know of some site workers that swear by them. I would love a wall full of Makita but when a Makita cordless ratchet is over €150 but the Parkside is €29...I'll never wear it out as it don't work it hard or long...plus they all take the same battery!

@toolscientist9 ай бұрын
Going off wire thickness, the grinder is using the switch for signalling rather than power (the jigsaw and sander look like they break the circuit). Can you measure standby current? If it's more than 1mA, you might want to warn people not to leave their batteries in the tool.

Neat tools these, those ceramic wear plates look very similar to TO220 ceramic isolation gaskets, they ar available from near any electronics supplier and are very cheap, neat design. Can you test if the have a low voltage cutoff built in to the tools? not all Makita batteries have the cutout in the batteries and relies on the 3d signal from the battery to shut the tool off and sense this pinn is missing it would be nice if it didn't bust the batteries

@toolscientist9 ай бұрын
The big problem with that grinder is that it only uses 2 pins. That grinder is powerful enough to cook Makita batteries, but has no way of knowing. Some Makita batteries (5 & 6Ah and some 4Ah) have their own cutoff, but the lesser packs don't
@enemyofthestatewearein79459 ай бұрын
That was the first thing I noticed too. These tools look solid for the money, but if it cooks even one battery the cost will likely cover the difference to a branded tool. Makita tools shut off before you notice any slow down and I find that I often run into the stop. So to me, protection of my (very expensive) batteries is one of the most important features of a machine.
@SteifWood9 ай бұрын
I just wonder if Makita/DeWalt/Milwaukee/Bosch have endorsed the use of their batteries with these tools. Any patents/violations in play? On thing is to make battery adaptors for all kinds of name brands, and these makers would seldom be liable for ruining the batteries. But in this case the batteries are directly connected to the machines and do these have the propper electronics to manage/protect the batteries?

No-name brands don't have to pay for all that blanket advertising, PR stunts like giving 'influencers' free tools to hype their products...or huge executive salaries and shareholder dividends. Also, newcomers are trying to break into an already crowded market. By taking a loss initially, and making a product with quality components, they may get a slice of the market. Once loyalty is established, the quality often drops to increase the profit margins. You can see it happening in almost every industry.

I really don't understand how the big companies will risk using cheap bearings in their tools to save a penny or two but sacrificing longevity. What could they possibly be saving per tool .04¢ or 5¢? It can't be that much, they're buying 200k+ bearings per tool they make. I'll pay Dewalt an extra dollar or 2 to make up their big 'loss' with the el-cheapo ROC bearings! Man it frustrates me so much.

35:14 3-D printing to the rescue! There'll be someone who figures out & prints a better plastic base for that jigsaw if it is popular that is. I have to say, that 3-D print machines are simply amazing to have a tool that can print things like that base or even the whole case(if someone took the super long time to measure & program a print file for it) is downright amazing!! Another useful purpose is to make print a part you need out of plastic, then send away to machine shop or a foundry to make it from metal for you. Such a cool, very useful tool to have!

Id actually prefer a jigsaw to not have the keyed slots for setting a bevel or 90... I bought dewalts new brushless jigsaw last year and the base is not square to the blade, nothing I can do to straighten it due to the keyed slots, if it were a standard continously variable rotating base I could set it straight and lock it..
