I just got a Roland TD17kv over the weekend and checked out this app because there was a flyer in the drum kit. I had ZERO drumming experience and once I put the kit together the first thing that went through my head was the daunting words "oh man.. now the hard part. learning..". But I checked out the app and have been playing it for 4 days straight now. I feel like I am actually building a rhythm and with all the stats tracking I can see how I progress and gives me a goal to get better or focus on specific parts. I will also work ahead for 30-40 mins, then jump all the way back to the start and see big improvements. It's sort of a warm up playing yesterdays stuff, moving on to new stuff to change things up, then going back to yesterdays work to improve my ratings. I am using the free version right now, filtered to only show the free content there is quite a bit of content. There is plenty for me as a new drummer and the structure / pace makes me feel like I am making steady progress. Something I struggled a lot with trying to learn guitar. I plan to play this for a couple months then seek a teacher. I feel this way gives me some comfort around the kit and provide me with insight on what questions I have etc. I also am planning to purchase it and work through the different courses while intertwining actual drum lessons throughout with a goal to play every single day. This way I am hoping I will prevent bad habits from becoming a difficult problem to overcome while allowing me to track my performance. As a complete newbie drummer, I am very very happy and highly recommend it.

Melodics updates: 1. Free play is now limited to 5 minutes / day. Just enough time to WATCH one lesson. 2. The offer for 40 free lessons when buying a set of Roland V-Drums is not valid. - They do have some free lessons for anyone who signs up, but the vast majority of them are levels 6-10 (Intermediate - Advanced). Hardly helpful for a beginner. 3. Cost to get more than 5 minutes per day is now $120/yr - or $30/mo - , and if you want to play songs (vs. just lessons), $170/yr - or $35/mo.

Using the 360 drum kit i discovered connecting my edrum kit with Rockband/Guitar Hero Games. 360 kit has a midi-input on board. Simple as that, my eDrum kit's midi out was plug and play into the wireless drum controller brain. Of course this means the lame 360 drums controller is added clutter to the room space and sits within a 'View-shot" of the area, so to fix this, I disassembled the xbox controller racks and removed just the 360 controller box and mounted it on the Alesis Rack next to the E-drum module. Now my 6" midi cable is a sufficient link and i tossed the game racks in the garbage, but i kept all 4 game pads and both game cymbals as they can be used as universal add-on E-drum sensors with virtually any kit. i think i had to go into Alesis module settings and change a few of the midi channel numbers, each game varies slightly, but for the most part the midi channels line up exactly. Finally I fine tuned the sensitivity settings on the eDrum module for accuracy. Reply to this for pics or instructions (NOTES: this method will not work with Rockband kits since it has no midi jack onboard, ALSO RB "Pro Drum" mode still requires the $20 adapter.

Thank you for the review of Melodics. I am currently researching my best option for my son to take up electronic drums. I was looking at buying either the Alesis Surge Mesh or Alesis Command Mesh kit. However, I checked with Alesis and the Command Module doesn’t have the training mode that the surge does. However, I think your review has convinced me it’s better to get the better command module, forego the surge module training and use Melodics. Thank you.

There's loads of other great charters. I think my (relatively small) song library is around 2-300 songs. Mostly stuff that would be 2x bass pedal, pro drums, really fast and technical metal! It's a small community with forums like frets on fire, but if you start looking around these guys we've mentioned you'll find stuff, trust me! There's also people (like me, although not so much atm) who take requests if you want you favorite song to play! :) PS: Phase Shift also allows playing with the hi-hat pedal, use 7 lanes (snare, 3 toms and 3 cymbals), ghost notes/accents and yeah... It's a cool game :)

I like this app. I have gone from never having tried the drums or any other instrument to being able to play a beat on time in various styles of music. I have been playing for only a few months at about 45 mins a day on average and the progress has been amazing. My limb independence is improving as the days pass. I can confirm that the slowdown issue does not happen any more. In this Covid lock down period it has been a god send. From a beginners perspective I think that using melodics in conjunction with playing along with tracks seems to be a good idea before going to a drum tutor. There is a risk I suppose of picking up bad habits, but going to a tutor from no knowledge seems to be an expensive way forward.

Can I say, since this video, Melodics has really upped its game in terms of instruction, GUI flow, and structure. It gives a literal path (like a timeline thing) for lessons that build on top of each other. In addition, all grades have plenty of songs. But it's also $30/mo / $12/yr now, which is pretty steep IMO. The only thing I wish it would do for that price is to go through the basic techniques. Like maybe show short videos of finding a good grip for yourself, adjusting the kit/throne, warm-ups/stretches, grip/dexterity exercises, simple rudiments, etc. KZbin is a great resource, but a handful of professional-grade videos integrated into the flow of the lessons would really bring it to a new level. My biggest issue is that I was actually hurting myself for a while because I didn't know these things.

Hello, I've been a regular user (80 minutes a day) for 1.5 years of the annual option. There are currently more than 600 lessons (lessons+courses+songs). and they are developing a version for acoustic drums which can already be tested and works well with only the microphone built into the computer. They also have a community of users (facebook and discord server) which boosts motivation because there's nothing motivating about playing on your own 😉. For the last 6 months I've been a big fan of the memory mode 😊 which you can use after getting 100%. Don't hesitate to try it out.

So you can't customize your lessons and control if it slows down or not when you make mistakes? Seems like they could have made that an option. If you play live and make a mistake the band isn't going to slow down, you have to play through it. Shake it off and keep going. So for the app to slow down automatically is actually stupid. That should be an option. Keeping the speed constant, or slowing when mistakes are made, or randomly variable where it speeds up and slows down randomly would be nice I think. The later being a nice challenge. Also, being a game, more or less, it would be cool to have a "hype" voice; applause or voice that cheers when you do good for a given time...remember some games had that back in the 90's early 2000's? It would just be nice while you are playing to be rewarded like that I think...just like other games or when you are on stage and the crowd goes wild! Yeah! It's not a bad idea, but I think some more development could be done to make it better! Did they even do a consumer study or ask drummers what they want or thought?

You don't have to use the drumset in order to play rockband. You can plug your electronic drumset into a midi-controller, and it'll work fine. They cost about 20 bucks on ebay. I personally don't do it because I'm afraid it'll make you neglect dynamics.

Shouldn't a complete beginner get a tutor as soon as possible? If you're learning via an app for half a year or a year, no one is going to look at your technique. I'd say it would be better to get a tutor that will give you the most important pointers about technique as soon as possible. When you at least have an idea how to hold the sticks, how to use the kick pedal etc, you're "good to go" and can practice on your own, but without those few pointers, you could end up with bad technique you'll have to "unlearn" afterwards.

If you hit all the notes on extreme, you are more or less playing the full song. Most new songs have 4 difficulties with less notes so you can gradually learn all the notes. It's free so give it a try if you wish, songs are a slightly hard to find but they can be found through facebook and there is English music as well. Mark Munson, lol. Aww... Thoughts and prayers for you feelings and opinion. Given that TrumpNazi lost the popular vote by millions, and has been locking and profiting from children, no body cares about TrumpNazisheeper's opinion or feelings.

Old comment, but I'm glad to learn about this. I don't know what it is about leftists that always want to inject their politics in everything they do. I was just wanting to find something for my kids to play drums, and now I have to wonder what kind of off-topic crap the company is peddling. To be clear, the problem isn't so much with the beliefs, it's that they tried to slide it into things under the radar. If I found a Christian music company, there'd probably be all kinds of terms and symbols that would make it obvious that that was their thing. I'd know that the play alongs might be preaching to them.
