@@shinebabyshine. im in the same boat. Im BD2 going on around 5 years without treatment its being extremely tough but not impossible. In saying that i think seeing the right person could be extremely beneficial even if you didnt want to take medication just to have someone to explain the illness and all the complications that come with it, that way you know what your in for and can develop ways to deal with it. Also people close to you might need someone to explain it to them as it can significantly complicate your social life aswell unfortunately. Best of luck with everything!

Stress is a major environmental trigger for both mania and depression and cortisol is a key hormone in the stress response. Cortisol, in excess, damages the part of the brain responsible for forming new memories (the hippocampus).

The reason it happens is about state-dependent memory. Memories are easier to recall when you are in the same state of mind from the memory. Then if you don't reach mania, depression, or stable for long periods of time, the memories will fade from non-use. This is my theory. Because memories are triggered by experience and they are less triggered if you don't experience the same things as when memory was formed.

A therapist once told me that depression (especially long term depression) can cause a kind of dementia that effects memories, concentration, and your ability to feel things like enjoyment. The word "depressed" is about things that are held down. This doesn't just mean mood. It means energy levels, mood, memory, and even your senses can be effected like your sense of hunger, your sense of sight may begin to worsen (for me it was colors, all colors looked drab, and I didn't notice until I took medication and all this color came back!) it can even depress the way food tastes and smells. Depression depresses everything. The longer you're in it, the more depressed everything becomes until all you're left with is an empty shell of nothing. Bathing, eating, socializing, and all the other normal shit will gradually seem less important and more pointless with each passing day. I've never been manic, but I'm told it's kind of the opposite with lots of color, texture, smells, etc. Wasn't sure about memory until watching this video.

Hey Lizzie thanks for this video! I believe I am facing depression as well, cause I had to withdraw from the course I was studying because I couldn't study due to emotional and spiritual problems! So then After this I moved back to my home country and my parents home. Due to the fact that I currently am not studying, I feel very bored and far from God and I also have had many depression and hard fatigue episodes during my life. Finally I started to notice that I also have memory loss,and I didn't know this was related to depression before seeing your video.

@LizziesAnswers
@LizziesAnswers 7 жыл бұрын
ALL THE TIME. More of when I'm in depression though. That's when I CANNOT think of words and just have a brain freeze SO often of what I'm trying to explain. Sometimes my words get jumbled when I'm talking like I say one word and some incomprehensible syllable-combination thing comes out. But that's rare. My manic episodes tend to be mostly hypomanic so I talk faster but I tend to have this extreme clarity and connection within my brain of everything I'm saying.

I've been addressing this with my friend and friend/ex recently. There are chunks of memory missing from the times i was manic. My friend said I was like a completely different person during those times. This was terrifying to realize. I knew I had memory issues and I've been slowly realizing I've had many manic episodes in my life, but I never realized it was so severe and that I've rarely ever even been myself.

My bipolar disorder was triggered very early in my life. When I was a kid I didn't know why I couldn't remember the past. People wouldn't believe me. Plus back then doctors didn't believe that bipolar disorder caused memory problems. I'm glad that they are finally seeing that it's a serious problem. Maybe one day they will be able to fix it.

This may sound really crazy, but I really believe that your symptoms of bipolar depression would lessen if you would cover your head. As Christians, we should cover our heads when we pray and prophesy or teach like you do. The scripture in first Corinthian’s 11 tells us to do so because of the angels. I believe that we are attacked by spirits of the world when we do not head cover. I have done many videos on this very subject if you would like to check them out and see.

For me at least, I can't specifically attribute memory loss as part of my bipolar, I still remember quite well about what I was feeling and thinking at the time, I still think about what happened to me and how I felt at the time. Something which I did quite a lot of when I was depressed and especially when I was manic was to write a lot which maybe contributed to me remembering what I did at the time.

Hi Lizzie! I love your videos and they have help me so much! I’m just starting my treatment and learning about being bipolar. Right now I’m struggling a lot w the “not having feelings” for my boyfriend for the second time.. I would like to know how you deal with that? Is just so hard to stay by his side when I don’t feel like it and every little thing just irritates me. 😕

I only realized my memory was a problem when a coworker asked what I did on my birthday. And when they asked me it was only 2 days before. And I could not think of it at all. I don’t remember anything if I don’t have a photo or wrote it down. I had to withdraw from college because I was failing classes because I couldn’t remember shit

I’ve been top of my class at number 5 for all four years of high school. Except the last month or two. That’s when every second I felt like I was gonna end it then and there and everything was out of touch. Ive always had thoughts and been depressed and out of touch but that last year was the year I thought. I dropped to 24 in the last month. My friend now makes fun of me and calls me dumb. Says I’m lazy. Says I’m stupid. I know he’s joking a bit but it sticks. Look at me. I was top of my class always reading, studying, participating in extracurriculars. Now I can never focus and I’m considered dumb and lazy.

That was really interesting because I actually used to date this girl who actually had bipolar disorder and also my aunt also has bipolar disorder as well. And I didn't know any of that at all. Also my ex actually took tons of medications for her conditions.

I have had moments When I'm walking up to a group of people talking and the closer I get the more I can hear them talking and the louder they become to the point I'm virtually stood with them trying my best to understand the words they're saying and I am convinced they're speaking in a foreign language until I literally focus on their mouths and slowly almost like turning the tuning knob on an old radio the voices join together until eventually I can understand them and realise they've been speaking English all the time. Sometimes and it's getting more and more regular is I see people I see everyday at work. I have done for over 10yrs I for no reason forget their names and they say "Hi." and my mind suddenly freezes and says I know I know them but i can't remember their names and I have to just say "Hi Mate." and I'm so embarrassed and hope they don't realise that I can't remember their name. This can go on for about a fortnight until for no reason I either hear their name called or I suddenly remember it myself. Does anybody else ha e these problems?

I thought I was the only one going through something like. Now I know that it's happening because of depression. I feel like I can't learn or remember anything new anymore. It's like my mind is resisting to learn or remember anything new anymore. The more I try to remember or recall something the more I forget. There's like a hollow in my memories. I completely can't remember few parts of my life.

Dude I had a manic episode,couple months ago. I lost like 10 hours! I don't even know how. I remember coming to reality and it was 10...I was like am or pm!!?? 😳A couple months ago. That one was harsh. And scary. I didnt know what I did for hours..I opened my eyes, I was sitting up in a chair..how could I have slept? I can't ever sleep up in a chair! Never. That's what scared me more about it. At least I woke up safe in my house. Ya I looked outside my window and it was day light. I was so confused. And yes I do forget people too and things. I also do the picture and note thing !!

Honestly I'm a little hurt that you're lumping my question in with things like "Have you tried praying it away? You don't really seem depressed, etc" .... CBD is *real* medicine. I encourage you to do some research... I only suggested it because you're an intelligent, research-based person. I'm not suggesting you rub crystals all over your body lmao

I'm bipolar and an herbalist. I've tried CBD. It definitely doesn't help the side effects of bipolar, but it doesn't hurt either. CBD does not help you snap out of mania or depression, but with constant use over a long time it can help sooth inflammation in the brain that can lead to these episodes. I've managed to get off all my meds for my health problems with the use of CBD and cannabis, but I still take meds for my bipolar disorder. Also, CBD is A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE than cannabis with THC, which is kind of pricey anyway. The thing about Medical Marijuana is that, its still weed, and people still use it for fun. The people who make medicinal products still sell them for recreational use at a much higher frequency than they do for the medical side, thus contributing to the capitalist market. Using CBD as an herbal medication has a long way to go, and at this point, anti-inflamitories from a doctor that you can use your insurance on, or other herbal supplements like valerian root and turmeric, that are taxed as food items, is a much better deal than being ripped off by the dispensaries. Change has to come from within the cannabis using community to support medical research and to become less income driven. Once more medical and herbal doctors are welcomed into the MMJ industry, we might start seeing some change, but not currently. Sometimes blazing some indica helps sooth the panic, if you can deal with the depression it can cause as a side affect, but it doesn't help with the brain fog or memory loss, and Sativa strains will make a Bipolar person manic. Weed affects the bipolar brain differently than it does "normal people" and can sometimes cause self harm and hospitalization, so any bipolar people out there, USE WITH CAUTION! Also, in Lizzy's defense, I'm sure she's tried everything to cure herself more than once.

I never thought that bcoz of depression one day I will be so short of my memory that I will forget the next day that something had been decided to remain a secret a previous day by my group of friends including me. And I m not a trustworthy person anymore.

This is so damn accurate. My memory loss is terrible and it doesn't help me at all in the military. I've been deployed for several months and as it is, every day runs together and feels like an endless monday; but I legitimately can't remember if we had done a patrol or any task for that matter, two weeks or two days before I think about the event. This video has helped explain a great deal so I thank you for it!
