How to import a cheap V8 BMW E34 from Germany!

In this episode we are travelling to Germany to buy a car for one of my friends. It is a BMW E34 Touring 530i with a 3L V8, manual 5 speed gearbox and limited slip differential. In this video we'll show you how to import a German car yourself.

Congratulations for your "new" bimmer and I always wish you safe and pleasant journeys and a lot of fun. Definitely you have a rare engine /transmission configuration. Luckily BMW continued his previously interrupted tradition of building V8's with these models and their 7 series siblings. Take off the lower oil pan. The bolts off the oil pump tend to come loose and destroy the engine. If he wants to keep the car for a long time i would also suggest a timing chain service, that's another common reason this engine explodes. Otherwise an awesome car, and if you have a E34 for once in your life you are pretty much stuck with that model. You don't want any other car after that. I am from austria and went to sweden this year to buy my E34 540i with a 6 Speed and original M Package. It was a fun journey!

Hahaha, yes, they're designed in that way for practicality reasons, smaller turning radius, in Europe roads are usually narrower, the US design couldn't make it across a typical roundabout, or even cross intersection without stopping all traffic, especially in urban areas. They do look more badass though :D

LOL! I bought also a car in Stendal last August and imported it to Switzerland! I had also problems because my money did not arrive on the bank so I also slept in the same hotel as you haha The guy in the numberplate office could only give you the number plate, because he tested it in my case which took about 2 hours to do so ... BTW: don't forget the documents COC and EUR1 for newer cars. cheers

I had an E34 520i 24v long time ago, make sure to change water pump and thermostat. Mine has overheated so high the water canister was molten and the motor block has warped 2 times in 2 years, so the car was selled.

I have a 95 525ii Touring model. Still so reliable, and no rust. A masterpiece. That color red on your 530 is nice. The Kelly blue book says mine is only worth 2,800 dollars in excellent condition. What a joke.

I feel your pain. I have previously imported a Harley from the UK to France (easy, one form, when it was still europe), and more recently an e55 from the Netherlands. Those people, like the Germans, do not joke with number plates. I had to get mine trailered to France due to the otherwise crazy requirements for registering a car on temp plates.

I have e91 325d in Denmark, in EU you can buy for 5000eu like that car, here in Denmark is import taxes 180% when you importing car + every half year you need to pay green taxes. So i find one for 11.000EU (its cheaper then usually) and every half year paying 500eu taxes for driving it :D

Meanwhile in the USA you can drive 24 hours with no license plates across state lines. Importing cars from Canada or Mexico that’s another story. Some states also allow you to register your car at a currency exchange

You'd have to watch for the Nikasil cylinder coating which tends to deteriorate with the use of high sulphur gasoline, causing malfunctioning problems and loss of compression. Not an easy job to fix. (Haven't finished watching all the video, so maybe you mention it at some point).

So interesting a 3.0 ltr V8 why don't we have more cars like this in the us smallest v8 I've seen here I think is a 3.8 ltr V8 I can't even remember make or model but it's rare if u get a V8 it's usually 4.6 most common ford ect or bigger our motors here I know are bigger in general but a 3 ltr V8 I think people would have bought it... You could have used the temp (yellow) plates instead of the zoll (red)plates being that you are in the EU, it would have been cheaper and quicker. All you needed was asale contract between you and the seller (adac) and the old plates/registration papers.

@@arminkisic8666 hi Armin, buying a car in Germany and moving it to an other country within the EU is quite easy, you do not need the “zoll” plates, all you need to do is get the yellow ones, temp plates. Any seller will get you to the DMV office where you get them in 5 minutes. With it, you get the temp insurance. Once you get to your country, all you need to do is go to the gov. registration office with the paperworks from Germany and register it (have in mind that some countries with in the , like Croatia, invented taxation (putarina) that they charge instead of the customs fees plus the difference between the german mwst. and Croatian tax (pdv). Not sure wht the case is with RO.

I did Day after i arived meade insurance for 2 mouths and tok Red nummbers cuple days after and yust cuple days ago did normal România nubers. My question îs în germany how do i pay that short 3 Day insurance do i must have card în Slovenia i paid with bills., im meried în România born în Bosnia was working în germany and Slovenia. Why didn't you get the transit/temporary plates in Belgium to put on the BMW? That's how I got my BMW from Washington back to Oregon or does it not work like that in Europe? Also, can't you drive it back with no plates and say you just bought it if the police talk to you?

I would get the 525i 24v instead, it comes with the infamous m50b25 so its great for turbocharging beyond 50psi.
