That's the sad part, Putin really believes the West will buy into this nonsense that these so called voters are desperate to live under Russian rule. Perhaps he hasn't noticed thousands of "putative Russian soldiers" are leaving Russia as fast as they can in any way they can. Clearly Putin doesn't really understand the West doesn't take Putin seriously anymore, except as a tin pot dictator who, like everyone else in this world will die, possibly sooner rather than later, and will be consigned to the dustbin of history. Russia will still be under sanctions and eventually the brighter politicos will come to understand it's better for nations to at least try to rub along together rather than wasting huge sums of cash on defence, better spent on improving life on Earth for everyone.

@Real Aiglon While I do not disagree in principle, I have to point out that all your examples are from eras when it was almost impossible to either flee or effectivly resist. The one example that would work are the Nazis, unfortunately we have quite a hard time evaluating who was forced and who was a volunteer, due to the fact that after the war nobody was a Nazi. But you are right in that revolting (or mutiny, in case of the Navy) is not always possible. And it also has to be considered that all the nations that actually practiced these recruitment strategies ( in case of the Navy there's the word "to be shanghai'd") badly damaged their own side massively. British Nobles complained to the admirality that their "press gangs" keep kidnapping their sevants, and the supporting industry was hurt so badly that "press gangs" had to be abolished because the Navi now had sailors, but no one to manufacture gun powder, guns and cannons anymore. Still a good argument, if you find more Nations that actually did succed with this practice, please do tell me!

The one percent, the most intelligent, unique units, scientists, unfortunately, are not in power because it is not their nature. Is this the beginning of the end for Putin’s regime in Russia? His secretary of defense has stated that Russia has only lost 5937 troops in Ukraine, but why then has Putin partially mobilized 300,000 reservists to fight in Ukraine? These are not war hardened troops, but instead many are very young or aging untrained individuals that are unprepared for war. Historically Russia has implemented a mobilization for war in WWI, WWII and now in 2022. Russia lost WWI, and it ended in the collapse of their government leading Russia into revolution. Russia largely won WWII because of the United States Lend-Lease Act that supplied the Soviet Union with 400k jeeps and trucks, 14,000 airplanes, 8,000 tractors, 13,000 tanks, 1.5m blankets, 15m pairs of army boots, 107k tons of cotton, 2.7m tons of petrol products and 4.5m tons of food. Now in 2022, the United States Lend-Lease Act is being used to support Ukraine. There is a good chance that Putin’s continued reckless actions will lead his regime and Russia down the path of a WWI outcome. Russian troops are currently suffering from low morale in Ukraine, but things will be getting much worse. Winter is coming to Ukraine, and Russia cannot equip or clothe the Russian army which will lead to devastating results for these poor mobilized Russian 300,000 men. Putin is a sadly misguided KGB dinosaur from the past that has wandered into a Ukrainian tar pit with no way out, and his actions will continue to become more desperate until he is removed from power. Russians are now protesting the military mobilization, but let’s hope they will be in the streets protesting the atrocities the Russian military is committing on the Ukrainian people and the sovereign nation of Ukraine.
