Bench press, pull-ups, squats, and deadlifts have done more for me in my 14 years of resistance training than anything else. I always recommend these exercises to people just starting out. Unfortunately, after having double knee replacements, I can no longer go heavy on squats and deads, but I’m glad I did for the first 13 years, now I do just enough weight to get a pump in and maintain my lean muscle and strength.
