Mercedes W639 Vito Differential Oil Change

An easy way to change the differential oil on nearly any vehicle.
It's good practice to loosen the filler plug before you drain the oil. Sometimes they've been over tightened ... you don't want to drain the oil only to discover you can't undo the filler!

Thank you. Yes the 2009 115CDI is the same model so the same procedure. If your 115 is an AWD then it will have a transfer case and front differential.

How easy is that! Great video Scott... What type of diff oil does the 639 take? The pressure bottle you made is a great idea, also what is the "wis" you mentioned in your atf change video? Keep the videos coming, they are a great help

Hi Karen. The WIS I refer to is the Mercedes "Workshop Information System". basically it's the workshop manual. You can buy them online quite cheaply and they send you a link and you download it. mbwis.com/en/ The WIS covers all MB vehicles including vans, trucks and buses. The oil I used was Castrol Syntrax 75W-90 fully synthetic gear oil. This has the correct MB specification. It's in a gold plastic 1 litre bottle. You'll need two.

I don't mind. It's a bit of fun! I think I said before the Vito is one of the easiest vehicles to work on as everything is easy to get to. I have to do the oil change soon so I'll get the camera out for that. Regards, Scott

@@ScottElliott152 Thanks for the reply, it was an easy job in the end, jack up the rear and support on axle stands, then support the diff with a jack, undo 4 bolts and replace the old part. Easy.

Hello Scott ! Very nice video , I need to change my differential oil on lmy vito Do you know if need a Nm on the 2 bolts ? I heard that it was 90 Nm ? What do you think ? Many thanks

Thanks ... yes there is a torque setting for the filler and drain bolts. I just do them up tight ... I didn't use the torque wrench. You need to check this but my recall is the specified torque as about 50Nm.

How much oil did you fill? Some manual says 1.3 - 1.5L I fill 1.9L how to position van before servicing?

Scott Elliott well I’ve got the laptop set up with the 2008 golden version but I bought this OBD module thing called, Maxi ECU. Now it supposed to work like a multiplexer. But the instructions are in French & I think I have to email someone, who’s address is in those instructions with the number that’s on the box. So until I can get it to connect I’m in limbo
