There's much to like about the Meta Quest Pro but also a lot to dislike. This video tells you all you need to know!

The Quest Pro is supposed to transform the way we work, but it's still a work in progress, and judging from Meta's site or trailers, that might not be obvious, so I'll try to clarify that today.

@@deathorb i've owned/own most headsets, DK2, CV1, Rift S, Index, Quest 2, G2, 8Kx, Pico 4 and now QP. I think the combo of seamless Oculus /Meta software and library, Comfort, best in class Controllers, decent Passthrough and ridiculously clear optics and lenses make the pro such a great all round VR device. It's expensive but compared to other high end hmd's that still don't have anyway near the features or hardware, ie the Varjo Aero the pro seems better value.

@@Art-Sin I echo your comments. I have owned index, Q2, G2, 8KX, and QP. G2 has a tiny sweet spot, 8kx is a fun headset but the annoying software and sometimes tracking issues are lame. As a VR game developer on the Unreal Engine 5, I am definitely going to buy this headset. This is the type of hardware needed to develop next-gen applications for the metaverse. Excellent review!!! You should just get a Lynx R1 instead. Meta only created this to get the media to credit them with Lynx's innovations. Its standalone (Cas and Chary have a video on it) but if you already have a PC VR set up, it'll be perfect for you. About thousand dollars less then Quest Pro.

@@neilrisley6667 As hardware? No, thats just a facade, unless all you care about is face/eye tracking (not something I would want to waste money on). The Lynx color passthrough is already confirmed to be much higher quality than Quest Pro. Much better handtracking, comfort, and battery life too. And yeah, last year the first pre-order price was $499, and they were up for grabs at that price for month. Then it spent almost a year at still only $599.

I think because my expectations were so low, the color passthrough was a pleasant surprise for me. It’s much better than the Quest 2, and is enough for me to see the magic of mixed reality. Hi Cas, beautiful review as always. Loved how Chary was filming you outside. Just a reminder on the chromatic aberration, my G2 suffered really bad on this on launch and with several updates, they managed to more or less eliminate it entirely. So I'm positive this can be 'fixed' in the software. In fact, a great many things can be addressed in the software, as I believe for example there's more resolution available to the passthrough cameras and streaming will improve with the introduction of Wifi 6E. It's a desirable headset for its features and one I'm looking forward to revisiting in 6 months' time although Meta may have made a mistake here once they've addressed many of the issues there may well be something better coming along...

I do wish that there was more positive talk about the Quest Pro. I can only find few KZbinrs that share my and most of the regular consumer thoughts about this headset. Sure, the cost seems high, but after watching the breakdown of the Quest Pro and really thinking about what we’re getting in a standalone device and controllers, I feel the cost is reasonable and obtainable for consumers that wants to experience what we have now and what’s to come with updates on this device. Thanks for the great review Cas! I have bought the Quest Pro few weeks ago and for sure it is pricey and not perfect but I found it is an improvement for me on comfort, screen clarity, sound, controllers, and mixed reality experience over the Quest 2. It has been great so far games and entertainment: archery games like In Death Unchained play better, mixed environment for game like DEMEO are fun and re-watching Lord of the Rings in Amazon Video VR was close to the real theater experience. As you said though, the upcoming Quest 3 and other headsets will likely get many of these improvements.

Great review as always! Consistently one of the best VR/AR channels. After a few hours of Red Matter 2, I can’t believe they were able to get those visuals out of a mobile GPU. Foveated rendering makes a real difference. Not worth $1500, but if (like me) you have more money than sense, it’s a great device. Meta’s software needs some work, though. Feels rushed. My theory is that the rumored cutting of the depth sensor forced them to scramble and they didn’t have time to polish. Optics are amazing, but highlights the lack of resolution. It’s all sweet spot, though, and not a hint of “god rays,” distortion, or other lens artifacts. I could see myself using Workrooms when traveling and away from my desktop and monitors.

I just asked someone that played PSVR 2 at CES and they said the image quality and resolution looks better on Quest pro overall in their opinion...Aside from the High Tech controls which blow the competition out of the water...and the lenses...I think the price is justifiable but would have loved that $1000 to $1200 range...I think I will keep an eye out for Meta Pro software updates and game support to you'll the trigger...I don't see you getting Quest 3 to later this year and might come with base controllers with a new vibration implemented..They will keep it cheap and those controllers on pro are high-tech as hell. By that time this thing should drop down to 1200 bucks used at 1k with highly supported software as Meta is killing it on the software update front...Great vids as always thanks for you awesome feedback

I got this for free with work but even at the point of waiting for the headset to arrive I had "buyer's remorse" despite not having to pay for it upon reading the specs. However, after the receiving the headset I've changed my mind about it, while it's not as comfortable as the Quest 2 with aftermarket accessories, there's a significant improvement in the lens and the focus, there's no longer a small zone in the middle, I can read text almost the entire field of view. The passthrough, while not as lifelike as I hoped, is starting to "click" with my brain. I can also push the lens much closer to my eyes than previously possible, resulting in a significant increase in perceived FOV, even with all the light gaps around the edges without the magnetic shields or the aftermarket nose cover, it manages to feel more immersive due to this fact. That said, Workroom simply doesn't work well with me, my PC desktop app crashes while trying to stream (I'm guessing due to the resolution of my ultrawide monitor? I need to test it out with my laptop at some point), so the few meetings I had in Workroom I wasn't able to cast my screen, but there's something there which video call doesn't quite have which Workroom meetings can convey, I look forward to more development on the productivity front, they're really really falling behind on the software front while impressing everyone with their hardware. I would not recommend this for $1500, mostly because the Quest 2 is so much cheaper while delivering a lot, but compare this to other entreprise headsets such as the Vive lineup? Unless you're working with 3rd party controllers and accessories, this is a very strong contender over those with unique standalone features.

I aboslutely love this headset, easily the best I've ever owned. For PCVR I'm coming from a Vive Pro 2 and Reverb G2 and despite having a lower resolution than both and not using a Displayport the overall visuals are much better on the Quest Pro. Much larger FOV than the Reverb G2, brighter screen and better colours, the real killer feature is the true edge to edge clarity across the whole visual field. It's truly transformative and adds so much to the experience. Compared to the Vive Pro 2 the horizontal FOV is almost as wide but better vertically, and there is zero godray issues that plague that headset. The sweet spot is also so much larger, I simply never want to use a fresnel lens based headset again. They have perfected inside out tracking with this device, I prefer the Quest Pro controllers to the Index controllers now. The new features, mixed reality, eye and face tracking are undeveloped so far and as Cas and Chary say are very much a devkit rather than really useable right now But the potential is absolutely there and Meta will continually update this over the next few months making it better and better. If your only interest is gaming then definitely wait for Quest 3 which will have most of the gaming focused features this has for a much lower price point. If like the sound of the new features but you're concerned about value for money I'd wait for the Quest Pro 2, which will likely release fairly quickly as they will want to put the XR2 gen 2 chip inside one of these asap, which will likely allow for higher resolution displays and better passthrough (I'd estimate this will be replaced within 18-24 months). If you want to experience the future of VR/XR as it happens however, and can afford to lay out £1500 for the experience of seeing this technology first then this is a fantastic headset, and the best of the seven I've owned so far. It's got me excited about VR again, recent headsets just seem to be about better resolution and no real developments aside from that, this headset stirs the imagination, provided you appreciate the tech beyond just gaming.

after thinking about it a bit I can't understand why they would lower the res. I have a reverb g2 and that extra 180 pixels per eye really does matter a lot to me If meta is going for business useage it needs to top the g2 and PSVR 2 resolutions business users need to reed more than one document at once, and be able to use the entire set of desktop office applications inside vr. This headset is good for developers and gamers with a bit more money it will probably go over with a vrchat user because of the tracking. I think ppl using BIM software like Revit might like like its portability, but I can't see this being the headset that makes vr a useful office tool for regular business users. For the price, I think Meta could make the resolution 2880 per eye and put 2 Snapdragon chips inside it. The OS needs to be upgraded to a newer android as well for devs to use updated tools instead of Android Studio 4 still. It should run google android phone apps natively IMHO. Then it would be readable, fast, and not so meta locked into their lame app set. I am more excited about the psvr than this, but I am excited about its body tracking and the color passthrough/ar. I dev for the quest platform with unreal and it can really do quite a lot, but I am a person who love creepy digital fogs and clouds and the quest just chokes on that stuff, so I aim mostly for pcvr. I like the outdoor portability a lot, and the space at the sides looks useful for a dev I wish hmd's were a bit easier to pop up away from your eyes so you can keyboard for a second. It REALLY should have a micro sd slot on it too. my nickel's worth.

@Socucius Ergalla I think the quest pro has the pixels closer too. I think meta really does make good quality products it took me a while to warm up to the xr2 graphics but tracking in the quest is very good I think by the time the Q3 comes out we might get a bit sharper in lenses and pixel density no matter what we are still in the early days of vr and what we will have in 5 years from now will be significantly better than current offerings. We can't really do office work with headsets until we have 4k per eye and multiple work windows I'm fine with games for now. Such a great technology. I'm losing body fat playing vr games who would have thought.

This will be the 1st head set that I have not bought from oculus/meta. Instead im getting the pico 4 but also the pimax crystal. I think the new pimax may set a new standard for stand alone headsets.
@neilrisley1321
@neilrisley1321 Жыл бұрын
As a stand alone headset the Pimax Crystal will be heavier, less comfortable & some of its features don't mean much because the XR2 chip doesn't provide the power to make full use of them (the resolution & refresh rate almost become obsolete without a high end PC to connect to) It also has no official release date yet & no current stand alone store 🤷‍♂️

The halo strap was killing me after an an hour of playing. I am so disappointed that it doesn't have the ability to change out the strap/battery pack like the Quest2 does. I'm returning my unit and will buy the controllers separate when they release.

Several people have said that a $20 headstrap makes it very comfortable. Head shapes are different, but maybe try that.

I doubt I’ll get the Quest Pro given most of the coolest things about it are reportedly going to be in the Quest 3. Now I would be willing to buy the better controllers, if they aren’t included with the Quest 3 when it comes out.

It doesn't actually have less resolution since you couldn't actually see all the pixels in a Quest 2 in the first place.

Yeah WAAAAYYY too expensive for what it offers. It's very cool, but the non-existent battery life is unacceptable. Thanks for the honest review! I can't wait to see what the Quest 3 offers! (hopefully at a much lower price!)

Update to this: I was wrong. Visual quality is way better. Stupid user error on my part. Just got one since price dropped to $1,000. Comparing to my Q2. Obviously better, but might return and wait for Q3. Been using the movie Armageddon to compare them. Great cheesy movie with true reference visuals.

@@mikestephenson4240 I was wrong in my original post and edited some. I was comparing with lower res movie by mistake. Once compared with 1080p versions, the improvement stood out. Might keep it now. Easier if knew how good Q3 is, but seems no way same quality as Q3 at much lower price.

@Rush More Yeah was thinking the same I don't think quest 3 will be as good as the pro. I originally intended to get the pro but the low resolution spec put me off si went for the pico 4 because of the much much higher resolution. Ended up selling it on though as I come from an oculus background having had 1 and 2 the pico just wasn't as established. Won't be buying any other brand now as long as games still compatible as have some in my quest account.. I've heard as well that the pro is stook at 72 hz and not even possible to get the 120hz update so something else that put me off.. Could you let me know please how good movies look in 4K on the pro

I wonder if, especially given the very mixed reaction to Zuckerberg going all in on the “metaverse,” there’s too much emphasis on this being a business tool and not a gaming device. I feel that should be one more iteration away, and they might have done better to run this latest tech by the gaming community and aimed it more toward them/us. And that includes price point. Just my take.

When they add eye tracked foveated rendering for all PCVR as Varjo Aero has, it will be as good or a little better fov than Varjo Aero, for a lot less money, considering Aero is $400 more and you need base stations, controllers, and it is tethered only.

I'm waiting to see what Valve has cooking for their next headset before I make any decisions. I don't think I'd buy this in any case because, well, I don't really want to give Meta money unless they change their VR strategies, and I am a PC VR person. This seems really overpriced for what you get. A neww Playstation VR headset modified to work with PCVR seems like a better deal.

I hope a PCVR PSVR conversation is possible! That would be amazing. I'm not counting on it anytime soon, but it's possible. It would be one of the best, and definitely best priced for value, PCVR headsets, especially if the eye tracking worked.
