I noticed that you are a car racing person, my favorite from the PS2 era that I noticed you didn't have was Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero and 3... the non-Drift game line of games (1 and 2 of the series was on Dreamcast... and again not the Drift series). Racing the Tokyo freeway system, pulling up next to another racer and flash your headlights to race against them through freeway traffic... winner being getting enough separation, area boss racers, car collecting and out running the cops... it really had the elements of current Horizon series, but it was limited by the tech at the time to be that grand.

The PS2 is just the perfect home console to me. An insane amount of amazing games and variety, plus the graphics still holds up to this day as opposed to the PS1(at least when talking 3D). At the time when I played it I didn't question what the Red, Blue, and Green inputs on the back of my TV were for until after I'd already beaten most of the game. I didn't know the composite cable was actually giving me muted colors while the component cable was bright and sharp. I didn't get the true experience from the game because of one stinking cable (my fault).

Holy crap, very well done Jesus!!! I havent seen anyone talk about games like getaway, great escape or onimusha, for ages. This is probably the best showcase of ps2 games ive seen anywhere up to this point. Im sure there are some ive forgotten but i couldnt really add much to the list that people dont know about or cant find easily. Im sure some of these have been talked about in some of the older videos but off the top of my head - Maybe commandos 2, Mobile suit gundam zeonic front was hard but very unique and awesome, Armored core series, XIII, atv offroad fury 4 had some fun point to point races with baja trucks. One of the early atv games had some fun stunt trial kind of things. Zone of the enders, stuntman, godfather was alright iirc, matrix path of neo, shellshock nam 67

MJR, great list. What you said about the PS2 generation taking risks is correct. I think the gen after expanded this also (PS3/X360) but it's somewhat plateaued with PS4 onward.

Honestly by now the PS2 is so cheap and soft-moddable that I believe it's the best "retro console" option available over any raspberry pi project or official mini console out there. Between ps1 and 2 official releases (including all those amazing retro compilations) and emulators, any retro gamer on a budget can get access to pretty much all arcade and console games up to the early 00s for less than $50, with component output, on one of the best controllers ever made!

The ps2 is a *BEAST* of a console and easily one of the greatest game consoles! So many good games; from the most well-known ones, to some underrated classics, to a majority of darkhorse favorites that truly deserves more love!!! It's insane so many good games are on this system!!! I can remember getting this for Christmas and one of my first games is "Godzilla save the earth" and i love it to this day. This is easily one of my favorite gaming system!!!

The PS2 is definitely one of my favorite consoles of all time, mainly due to its huge RPG library. MJR, I notice that you have Unlimited SaGa, but not Romancing SaGa. Plus, I recommend the Ar tonelico games as well as the PS2 Atelier games (including the Atelier Iris trilogy and the Mana Khemia duology).

The Yakuza games got their start on Ps2 and is probably what Streets of Rage would or should have been if it didn't loose its footing like it did. Amazing stories, great atmosphere and plays really nicely. Of course, today you would probably go for the Kiwami editions on whatever modern platform you like but the originals are special, and that isn't nostalgia talking. I discovered these games like 2015.

So glad I started collecting PS1 & 2 games over 10 years ago. I love the systems but a huge part of why I started collecting them was that there were plenty of great games for $10 or less, sometimes just a buck or 2 complete in case with cover art and manual. The PS2 gives you access to hundred of great games including tons of ps1 games. So many great RPGS, fighters, sh'mups, arcade collections and just plain weird games.

If you dedicated your life to collecting video games, you’d have a huge collection too. I’ve known people like this… they spend a LOT of time looking for games. It’s not some casual thing. I would honestly guess that Jason spend, on average, 10-20 hours a week looking for games. Maybe not anymore considering how many he has at this point but at one time, he was hunting. You have to if you are trying to not use eBay or something. I should state I’m not judging. People should do what makes them happy. Personally, I’ve never loved the hunt like some people. I also don’t like to own games that I’ll never play (and I don’t count popping a game into my system to grab footage for 5 minutes “playing a game”). I treat video games like I do clothes. If I haven’t used it in at least 12 months, I ether ned to sell, donate, or deem it a significant item for it to take up space in my home. Then again, I try to be a minimalist when possible.

From what I've seen, FFX is well-liked and not near as divisive as VIII and XII. My personal opinion is that it's a great classic-style JRPG with excellent dungeons, bosses, and side content (Blitzball almost qualifies as its own game).

That's awesome how it helped get you into RPG's. Being an early PS2 game, I imagine that's the case with a lot of people. Even though I first played FFX on the Vita, I've seen a lot of gameplay for the original and it is a beautiful piece of art. What they accomplished in 2001 on a device less powerful than a GameCube is incredible. So yeah, I can see why FFX is your favorite game ever. It deserves the praise.
