There are several versions of this lens. First off don’t assume the current version (VR) is the same lense as it’s a different design altogether. The earliest version is actually one of tamrons last adaptall manual focus lenses, where you can buy separate mounts for the lense for different camera systems (72b). From there the 72e, 172e and the last of this lens formula debut around 2004 and 2008, in the 272e. Not much in the way of differences (cosmetic) from 72e (1996) to 172e (1999) (D) but the 272e was a (Di -digitally integrated with updated coatings to reduce sensor reflections, and the 272e apparently came in early (screw drive) and late models as the later version had an internal focus motor (like Nikon af-s). All of these versions are excellent IQ wise for close up or portrait work. Just trying to clarify the history of this very capable lens. I have the 272e that was produced after 2008 that has the internal focus motor, and love the sharpness of this lens.

Thanks for the video, can you please tell me what filter do you use with it?
@MichaelCGrayPhotography4 жыл бұрын
Your welcome. I rarely use filters. The lens hood protects the lens. My advice is buy the best filter you can afford, nothing worse then spending $1000s and more on a lens, then putting a $10 piece of crap in front of it!! Sometimes I put this on the lens " Hoya 55mm Fusion Antistatic UV Filter "
@nenadtrimeresurus4 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelCGrayPhotography Thanks, I don't use filters and don't know much about them. I don't need it to protect the lens primarly, I need it to reduce the reflection that I sometimes get in my photos. I mostly take photos of reptiles and amphibians in jungles at night, and sometimes I get too much unwanted reflection. That happens especially after the rain, so drops of water reflect to much light and I get the white pixels that I don't like :) I was thinking maybe I can fix it with some filter.
@MichaelCGrayPhotography4 жыл бұрын
First off, Wow nighttime in the jungles. Ah, reflections! What you need to look into is a Polarizing filter. if you get one make sure you understand how it works, some you have to rotate on the lens to get the Polarizing effect. Now, depending on your camera you maybe able in a pinch to use your sunglasses, I have used my Ray bans a few times.

@MichaelCGrayPhotography2 жыл бұрын
I think you will be very happy. I was talking to my dentist about images. For tips, lighting will be an issue for in mouth images. If the patient is willing, then tripod the camera, get some light shining into the mouth. You might wanted to invest into a macro ring light for in mouth stuff. the light fits around your lens. example www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/ring-camera-light-macro-flash/ci/649 For portraits (guess you mean your patients) make sure your background is simple, plain wall works well. Fill the frame like head and shoulders. I tend to use about f8 and lower, with you want a blurry background then like F2.8 Also get some nice soft light. Best of luck.

@MichaelCGrayPhotography3 жыл бұрын
Yes, any scratches, cracks, etc will effect the quality of the image. Mold? that is bad, it will spread internally and you will never get it out. Also more than likely it has had water inside. The lens quality is pretty much more important than the camera body.

Pretty much shot at F22, shot a little further back to get more in focus, crop closer in post. I do focus stack now and then, but don't believe I did on any of these.
