When I was very young, my cousin, Katie, was taken hostage in her home by her ex-boyfriend. He stalked her for days before barricading himself and her in her bedroom. The hostage negotiators talked with him for hours. Unfortunately, he ended up killing her and then himself. She was 17, about to graduate high school. Investigation Discovery did an episode on it back in 2017. I have a lot of respect for the people who put themselves in these life or death scenarios and take on these burdens to try and save people like my cousin - even if the challenge doesn't always end the way we want it to.

Then he asked if the guy had pets and the guy started talking about his dog and then went on about how the dog died and then he set himself on fire and died. The actor here was so good. I actually got emotional watching. It was a fictional scenario but so many people who become disabled face not being able to live a quality life if they don't have savings, someone to care for them, or means to get a job in a different field. I firmly believe that a massive amounts of of folks who commit crimes aren't just evil people with no empathy. Rather, so many people only got into criminal activity in the first place because they've been dealt a bad hand and didn't know how to get by otherwise. We need better systems in place to support and care for people of color, people with disabilities, veterans, people with mental illness, LGBT+ folks, etc. so they aren't constantly struggling and suffering, wondering where they're going to get their next meal, wondering if they're going to end up living in their car or on the streets, etc. Better treatment for folks with addictions too but also more preventative measures to ensure folks don't turn to substance use in the first place. The fact that folks can get arrested for loitering or camping when they're homeless for instance is so messed up when those people do not have somewhere to go.

I've watched this video 3 times now, and it's just as impactful the 3rd time as the first time. My utmost respect to all the women and men in law enforcement, especially those on the hostage negotiations teams. The one thing I don't understand is why this video is only #20 on the trending page. It should at least TOP 5.

I am very jealous and happy for you. Because growing up I wanted to do every job in existence. You’ve done so many that seemed so interesting and important to me. What I also told myself was I can become a clothing designer if I need to just sew my clothes and change it, or an architect when I build my own house or a lawyer if I’d have to represent myself in court. You should try all those.

Try also something with science, computer science or lab work maybe.

i cried from 23:10 part. Its actually so sad that such people had to go through such incidents. Most of them are just want a normal life. Not everyone is purely bad.

It would be really cool to see you try professional counseling! I've been studying to get my degree in psychology and to become a LPC myself! I think it would be so cool to see you do roleplay scenarios and to see how much goes into being a counselor and the effect it has on the professional themselves! Keep up the awesome challenges, and thanks for bringing so many of these professions to light!❤

Couldn't believe how absolutely into the final scene I was! Long scene but didn't feel like it at all. You continue to change what the word, "KZbin video" means. Better than the TV I watch. Thank you Challenge Accepted Team!

Negotiations are hard, you talk to person/people who you can’t really trust. Michelle did good job this video, I appreciate her hard work.

The fact that hostage negotiation is communication and empathy-focused is just... not something I ever would have considered. But it makes so much sense when you think about it. So thankful to Michelle for shedding light on professions like this, showing what's actually at the core of them!
