These ex soviet republics were isolated and blocked from communicating with the outside world. The same situation like Ukraine for instance. Russia will invade them if they went towards the west or towards the Sunni Muslim world aka Turkey or the Arab world. Russia doesn't want Ukraine to join the west for instance. Similarly these Central Asian republics were banned from even doing pilgrimage to Mecca. Soviets even forced their alphabets on them. The same thing happened to Muslims in China, Eritrea and Ethiopia. The US is doing the same to Latin America for instance Cuba and Venezuela. Russia even did this to Georgia and invaded them in 2008.

I have read Russia is in need of workers to replace those killed on the battlefield, there is a huge shortage of labour, there will be a famine if farmers can't get the grain in, Russia won't be able to import food, if it does it will be expensive, able bodied men are being sent to the meat grinder, the immigrants would seem to be a necessary if inconvenient requirement. Living in Russia is so basic, we Americans not use to that living. Maybe our homeless who are addicts can live with that but not majority of Americans. 5 bucks gasoline in Russia a month is BS. They spent more than that. Gasoline in Russia is .50 cents per liter that is 1.50 per gallon. The US is about 3 dollars per gallon adjusted with high salary still we are better off. Much much better off. My electricity bill With centralized ac is about 120 dollars a month. Heating almost the same. I have 3 cars. Not bragging just comparing the life in Russia and in here in US.
