Owning 4 businesses I can tell you that my blood pressure rose up and down throughout all this! Great capture of what it feels like to start a business. The struggles with U-haul, the getting tons of stuff at lowes, the ghosting by employees. All of it is so true. Just getting nickle and dimed to death while starting everything up. Awesome example!

Thank you. I had no idea about Lowes replacing their own products. I used to manage at U-Haul and I was a hitch install trainer. I would talk to the store manager and let them know that if they want to keep your business that he needs to keep on hand the hitches and accessories you need. They order their inventory weeks in advance. When they sell what they have in inventory they reorder. He needs to ask to increase his inventory number of the hitches you most need and the necessary wiring packs.

I'm an hour south of Charlotte, you guys moved in to the right market, Smart move!
so this is why I can't find any good used trucks in Charlotte! haha I closed my lawn care business last year but still enjoy your videos, Mike. I did just buy a couple trucks for the truck repair shop I work for and they are spec'd like these, but a little bit older.

My number one worry when starting/expanding a business would be the start-up cost, and the fear of forever being in debt either down the line or even towards the beginning. I've always thought of starting a storage unit business, but having to find the right location, plot of land, the taxes, who to build with, nearby subdivisions/businesses, etc. So would it be a matter of knowing exactly what needs to be done, pay/charge for the items, and get the ball rolling fast (to pay off your debts before they escalate)? Or would it be better to have enough funds set aside so you can expand at a moment's notice? The business you're running [from what I see] is quite successful, with the right materials, a structured routine, proactively growing/expanding your operations, and PROPER training for GMs. But I will say that utilizing storage units does take the guesswork out of worrying about property taxes and building maintenance, a total no-brainer solution.

I have really enjoyed following this series. My only critique would be why not find an industrial feed store or lawn contractor supply shop that would probably be much cheaper than Lowes?
@Athletesperformance1 Жыл бұрын
I've said this before. I like to have all items the same like you did for the trailer but why not the trucks. Easier to train a maintenance guy and you can have a parts truck if one is totaled.
@MikeAndes Жыл бұрын
Not worth waiting or paying extra. To some people I would agree, but all the trucks have the same service regime for us regardless of brand and are treated exactly the same

Hey Mike. I would recommend your franchise use Hasegawa or Henchman orchard ladders. Your best guys who do pruning and hedges are super valuable. You don't want them to get hurt while using old school orchard ladders. The ladder that this guy recommends is not safe for pruning or hedge trimming. The ones I recommended pay for themselves in 3 months. Adjustable leg allows for better angles, allows trimming jobs to completed more quickly.
@MikeAndes Жыл бұрын
We don’t go above 8 feet usually
@JJ-pv9rf Жыл бұрын
@@MikeAndes Keep them in mind in case any franchise does more ornamental tree pruning / hedges. Even 8 foot Hasegawa ladder is super enjoyable to use. Optional rubber feet for slippery patios/steep concrete means you can do a lot of terrain that's otherwise unsafe.

Those are not 7k axels on the dump trailer. You can tell easily by the lug pattern. More like 7k gvw for the whole trailer. Yard and a half of stone or other heavy material is about all that can haul.
@CopperCreekCuts Жыл бұрын
My guess is it was an honest mistake and he meant 7,000 GVWR. I doubt the media team knows enough about trailers to catch the mistake and issue an on-screen correction.
@RiverValleyLandscaping Жыл бұрын
I figured it’s worth pointing out for the perceived “value” of the trailer. For grass and mulch it will be fine and I’m guessing that’s mostly the intended use. For renting and hauling skid steers or excavators it won’t cut it. But then again neither will those trucks. Just one thing to consider for someone transitioning from mowing towards landscape projects.
