You know if this mod was made by Obsidian they would've given the option of finding out about Tiberius early and killing him so you can be honest and peaceful with the Crusaders and disarm the nuke. Kinda like they did for Lonesome Road.

They always gave multiple ways to figure quests. Retcot center? Use the fluids from those toy spaceships in novac. New vegas for benny? You can talk to house before confronting benny to form a really good plan. Brotherhood of steel bunker? If you find veronica she just walks you in (brought it up because my first playthrough i actually missed her confrontation).

I once failed the quest to save the monorail while working for the NCR because I had no idea and I told Curtis there was a spy and where to find him, and because I already saved past that part, it just ended up with Curtis constantly turning on me because he knew I'd arrive. And my explosive skill was shit because I was a gun user, so had no chance to disable the bombs. So yeah, only found out about the spy when I confronted him at the comms tower and killed him. Was surprised to find him there.

There's been a surprising amount of allusions to how "close" California is (Them seeing the mushroom cloud, saying they could march back in the borders due to proximity, etc). They keep treating the Frontier Wasteland (Portland and surrounding communities) like it's right on the border of California when it's about as far away as you can get in the Oregon border. Bordering states doesn't make the trip any less immense, dudes gotta walk through like 300 miles of frozen hell to reach the modern day border of California, more if they want to actually get to the Capitol of Shady Sands and the NCR core territories (which are in Southern California)

Rimmy did the math on the mushroom cloud and IN THEORY if you were on a skyscraper in Portland you can see the cloud in Cali over the curvature, as the mushroom cloud's only real limit is the atmospheric pressure. I never played enough of the Exile story to get to Rancor's betrayal, but I will say that as soon as I saw him getting onto the truck I came in on at the very beginning of the mod I said out loud. "That guy is definitely secretly evil." I guess when you rip off every single one of your plot devices from far more competent writers, the shit you do make up for yourself is pretty hacky and predictable, at best. I would like to say that maybe they were trying to be clever. Like "Hey here's this guy who is so obviously evil, that you'll probably start to think, 'No he can't be evil, that's too obvious.' Then surprise, he's just as evil as you thought!." Going for some kind of Jack Sparrow "He knew you wouldn't believe the truth even if he told to you." 4D chess shit. I would like to say that, but that would require some level of narrative creativity that the writer of the Exiles plotline has shown time and time again that they sorely lack.

I think I can come up with a better twist than what the mod has: Gray is actually the Legion Spy, except he's a sleeper agent and the initial success of the hypnotic gas from the Vault in the shopping centre, with the programming so deeply engrained that not even HE knows that he's the spy. Rancor was playing both sides in order to find out who the spy was, and upon learning it was Gray decided to take him and the Courier back to the Vault in an attempt to combat Grays' brainwashing, either through deprogramming or preventing it from activating, disguising his actions to the Legion as him trying to bring the Courier in as a new test subject and potential sleeper agent. After the Couriers' rampage through the Vault ruins that plan, Rancor instead goes for an improvised plan of "give Gray sloppy programming that will lead to him outing himself as the spy", which again doesn't work as the Courier helps convince the Exiles that Gray isn't the spy due to his previous NCR fervour and questioning the validity of Grays' confession. This mission to disarm the Crusaders' nuke is then undertaken as the Exiles' intel is incorrect as to the Crusaders' intentions for the nuke, believing that the Crusaders intend to launch the nuke at the NCR in order to wipe them out, when in actual fact the Crusaders are there to scrap the warhead and most of the silo for much-needed resources to keep their technology running. HOWEVER, during the mission at the silo a Legion contingency plan is put into motion, part of which includes remotely triggering Grays' Legion programming. This turns him against the NCR Exiles and sets Gray up to be the final villain of the NCR Exile storyline.

On a small bit of positivity about the most obvious betrayal of all time; Rancor’s VA is Ray Chase, the voice of Noctis in FF15 and provides voice work for ALOT of big name anime like Seven Deadly Sins and Demon Slayer. The only two conditions he gave for working as a VA for the mod was that he play the villain, and that his character ALWAYS wore sunglasses.

@@midouban628 Tritium is for fusion already. Modern nukes do have a fusion stage that boosts the fission stage that actually does the boom. They are very complex multi-stage devices with a conventional explosive stage and at least another fusion or fission stage before the final stage that actually does the boom. It's a chain reaction of booms, it's facinating. The issue in a nuke is with the conventional explosive in the first stage of the nuke (more specifically in its detonator), AND with the fissile material in the other stages (as it decays and loses the very high purity required) AND the tritium or deuterium canisters as they are still hydrogen isotopes. So even deutrerium that does not decay that fast, it will still dissipate within a few decades just because that's what happens with hydrogen storage, it just dissipates through the container walls and seals.

My storytelling isn't as compelling as Zach's, who apparently includes nuclear bombs in his definition of "small arms repair", and I haven't worked on bombs, but I do work in radiation & radioactive material safety as a health physicist - heavy metal alpha particle emitters (aka uranium/plutonium in a warhead that is not actively detonating) are a radiation hazard in the sense that if you inhaled their dust you'd get it stuck in your airways, and the subsequent alpha particles from that dust will deposit ALL their energy into that tissue. It's also a heavy metal and the "chemical" hazard from inhalation is claimed (though I havent sufficiently researched this and radiation dose-response is a contentious issue) to be more damning than the radiological hazard tl;dr don't inhale bomb bits

From watching this play through - the mod has a great deal of production value, and excellent programming. But once it became obvious that certain scenarios while cool and engaging couldn't be supported in engine and would be seriously frustrating to play through, they should have been reduced to cut scenes. perhaps with a subtitle saying - "this looked cool and engaging in concept, but blew chunks in execution. Please enjoy this short cut scene, rather then the tens of minutes of frustrated buggy flailing and save scumming required to complete this portion manually."

AJ is trying so hard in this one. Sees a nuke detonate and instead of asking the real questions like where did that go off? Who just died? Instead she busts out her freshman philosophy thesis to the courier. Then she goes full, "I have been through hell!" on that pilot. Good on the VA for trying so hard but that dialogue is soo bad. As for Rancor, I wish you had the chance in dialogue to call him out as a traitor to his face or to other characters. Even if they defended him or he sidestepped it and did nothing, just having a bunch of funny lines where you can say "He is clearly evil. look at how he is dressed!" or "He killed all the prisoners. He lied. A lot. How do you trust him?" It would have least been funny.

I'm with Zach on this one when it comes to the explosion. That detonation according to the game took place in California, the frontier is supposed to be in Oregon. That's a long-ass f****** distance away to be able to spot a detonation like that. Either they're far closer than the game States as in way way far closer. Or that nuke was so massive and so powerful that right now the entirety of the former State of California is a giant radioactive nuclear soup, as in the very ground itself melted into a glowing green paste. That kind of explosion Shockwave would Wipeout everybody's eardrums alone from Shady Sands all the way to the Mojave Outpost.

The creator of the NCR Exiles questline is the worst type of writer. He's the type of writer who is not writing to tell a story to an audience, he is writing to make the audience sit down and experience HIS vision. The type of writer who wastes your time because they has no respect for your time. The type of writer who skips over details they decide aren't important focusing on regardless of how it comes across to you. The type of writer who is so self-obsessed that they end up putting together something surprisingly competent, even a technical marvel unto itself, and yet a completely miserable experience because they are so, so very self-obsessed. This type of writer is a discredit to writers everywhere. Hell, it's not even just a writing thing. Any sort of creative person like this is a fucking discredit to anyone else in their craft. It makes me fucking sick.

Not the fact that you've slaughtered your way through MULTIPLE levels of her defenses, despite being given the option to stop and turn back (at least in theory, obviously the mod makers couldn't let you have any agency so Tiberius makes all those decisions) every single time.
