I have a flash that sat in the cupboard for three years as I could never make sense of it. Session 1 ... was a clear ah ha moment for me, session 2 and 3 were really good. For the first time, and with pauses to harass my wife and the dog with practice (poor dog hates the recharge whine) , I feel confident enough to use the thing. Simple explanation of M rather than TTL & how flash power, camera speed and aperture affect the result were easily followed. Thanks Mike.

Mike, Happy New Year. I just want to let you know you SAVED MY ASS on New Years eve. I've shot mostly natural history videos for the last 30+ years, but recently have done more photography. Since C19 crushed much of our kind of work (just about ANY kind of work) in 2020, I've done whatever I could to make ends meet. A local casino found some of my work online and hired me to photograph VIP customers having complimentary dinners in 3 of the restaurants within the casino. I know just about zip of shooting with a flash. I watched MANY YT videos on beginning flash shooting and learned a bit from some of them, but when I got to yours, I FINALLY got it! It's a great beginner's look into the balance needed to shoot subjects and the ambient background with a flash. Overall, I did a pretty good job, considering I ended up shooting 100's of images, running from restaurant to restaurant, my fiancé getting the email addresses of each of the people at any given table, then me shooting 2 or more images of each couple/individual and making needed exposure adjustments on the fly. All the while approaching and interrupting them with food in their mouths. I truly appreciate it was paying work, but it's not the kind of gig I want on a regular basis! Regardless, your video was the tipping point for me...and I found it on December 30!!! At least I didn't put it off to the last minute!

That's great to hear Ken! Flash photography is one of those genres that seems really daunting, but once you understand how everything works, it all becomes a lot more straight forward. Thanks for watching. 😁👍

Thank You! I've always been mystified by my Yongnuo Flash and using any off-camera flash. Your video explanation was great!! Today I used it in-depth for first time after owning it for over 2 years. Images turned out great. Thank you!!

That's fantastic to hear!! Flash photography seems really daunting at first, but it really doesn't have to be. Once you get these basics down, you'll start to get some great images ... and it sounds like you're getting them already! 😁👍

YES this is the video I have been looking for!! So so so helpful and the examples shown are exactly what I needed. Understanding how the camera and flash settings correlate to create the intended exposure was the piece I was missing from other videos. Other videos focussed on the flash externally, but never connected the flash to the camera. THANK YOU!

Wow! Incredible good video. I will receive today a second flash in order to avoid or at least minimize the shadows in my dog photographies.
