Thanks for the review! I'm looking into keeping and breeding coleonyx brevis and possibly eurydactylodes agricoliae in the near future, and with so many different incubators on the market, it's nice to see another reptile keeper review different options and give advice on the best products.
@MikeTytula3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The Eurys' don't really need an incubator unless your room is super cold. That's exciting hopefully it all works out! Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Do you poke holes in your containers to have the humidity flow in there? I'm seeing and hearing that you don't have to but I feel like that defeats the purpose of the humidifier. My geckos are about to lay eggs and I just bought this because either I didn't have enough humidity of the temp kept fluctuating. Please let me know how you had the containers so I can have their hatchlings this year 😊
@MikeTytula Жыл бұрын
We typically have one airhole in the containers to allow the eggs to breath, and we open them semi-regularly (once a week-10 days).

One last question. I've done a 1 to 1 ratio of perlite and water with the one hole, but what should the humidity be set at? I've been seeing 30% all the way up to 85%. I just want to make sure these lil eggs and the babies are safe.

Maybe I'll make another video about it. But it really depends what media and such you are using. We still used vermiculite in the bottom of ours.
@EndZiiel Жыл бұрын
Do you use a special dirt or sand for your eggs? and do you add moisture to the dirt/sand or just let the humidifier do it's thing?

We use a variety of different things. Mostly perlite, vermiculite and pangea hatch

I’m thinking of getting this for ball python eggs. I would only need 2 clutches to fit at the most at a time. How do you think it’ll work for ball python eggs? Reliable?
@MikeTytula11 ай бұрын
Ball python eggs are pretty easy to incubate so this should do the trick.

Are they only meant to work for a single season? The fridge one failed on me the second breeding season I used it in. Went back to using basic styrofoam ones after that.
@MikeTytula3 жыл бұрын
The old one was pretty unreliable. This one seems to be doing great.
@LonghornInOmaha3 жыл бұрын
Our only issue with it was the lack of space in the plastic egg containers that you buy separately to use inside the incubator. It would be better if there was more "head room" inside, especially if you're using the little rack inside the Exo Terra container. We ended up eventually using our own Rubbermaid containers and removing the rack from their own branded containers.

Ya we found the same thing! They are great for our Strophurus eggs, but even some crested gecko eggs were too big haha.

It doesn’t cool, and most chameleon eggs require coolish temps and a diapause. So it could work, but just research their incubation

Well when I took the incubator out of the box today for the fist time, I saw a piece of plastic, covering the heating elements and screwed onto the inner side of the lid, and nothing on the instructions over if that remains on.

Thanks for the review! I definitely love the convenience of this one for the hobby breeders. BTW I think you have said but how much does shipping average from Canada to the states?
@MikeTytula3 жыл бұрын
I am planning on doing an american group order, with enough people it wouldn't be all that much more expensive than if you were shipping across the states. If you wanted to import on a solo order, for an entire box is 250USD but that could be filled with 10-20 animals.

Depends on the size of their clutches, we we able to fit about 3-4 clutches of hognose eggs in here. So with the appropriate sized egg bins you should be okay.

Sorry but I don't care what whistles and such it has, no way would I spend over 200 bucks on a Styrofoam incubator. I'll stick with my 50 buck one. I had a 99% hatch rate with it for over 10 years. Don't fix what's not broken. Now the stand up one they make I would think about if I still did Chameleons but I haven't bred Chameleons in going on 15 years now. But if I was to get back into Chameleons I would go with my dream species, Jacksons Chameleons and thankfully no incubator needed for them. The other species that I was breeding are Darts and Uroplatus phantasticus and again room temp is all that's needed, the room I had them housed in was hatching temp for the eggs.
@MikeTytula3 жыл бұрын
Yup fair enough! Feel free to stick with whatever you have. This a review, not telling everyone they need to go buy on immediately 😅

@@MikeTytula Oh I know your not Mike. If I didn't have one and didn't have the time to mess around with a biscuit heater or worry about checking on the water level I would definitely look into one like this or if the room temp wasn't a constant temp, the ease of this one would be nice.
