unless an account is doing something illegal, there should NOT be any bans made by Mojang/Microsoft. I am a Minecraft server owner and it is MY job (and the people I hire to help me with my job) to protect the players of my server from actions like profanity, bullying, etc. After all, I pay for the server right? If I'm paying for it doesnt that mean I can do whatever I want with it? I have a bunch of friends who can do almost anything with plugins. One of them even figured out how to bypass the migration by using a custom server.jar. I am 100% sure that my friend can find a way to bypass this. After all, the EULA does allow us to modify the game in any way we want :)

Never update to 1.19. Chat messages before that version are unsigned and thus cannot get you banned. Just never play on 1.19 or higher.

I think Java edition does not need this, private server has moderation and plug-ins and realms have owners and are mostly to play with friends. This ban system will just make trouble for the players and knowing how terrible is the Mojang Support system this will be a mess.

I'm not sure if this was well-intentioned or not. But if I look at this in a pessimistic way, this is to increase financial gain for Microsoft. They don't actually care about what kids see, but they care when parents are buying Minecraft for their kids. So they make it look appealing to kids, with a chat filter and reporting. Privately owned servers are for fun and do not give Microsoft monetary gains. So they need to police servers that they don't own which discourages more mature players from playing. Also, since kids don't know how to make their own private servers, they buy Realms, which gives Microsoft monetary gain. And also, players are banned easily (sometimes false banned) and do not implement a good appeal system, so players need outright buy new accounts, thus increasing the monetary gain for Microsoft. And once you're banned, you need to manually cancel Realms subscriptions yourself instead of them being canceled automatically (Like, seriously? Paying for something you can't use?). If they're doing this for financial gain, the only way to get them to stop is to cause them financial losses. If this is well-intentioned, I think this is overkill. You shouldn't get banned from all online play because you have done something bad on one server, or even on single player! Remember, this is a game where players can do whatever they want! Players in their own servers make their own rules, they tell the others what other players can or can't do on their own server! Not Microsoft! If Microsoft really cares about its younger audiences, they should instead add a toggleable chat filter and parental controls and make it so that servers can set their own age ratings, so a kid won't stumble upon a server for more mature players.

the only ban reports allowed should be the ones that are illegal violations such as doxing someone's personal information, sending virus links and grooming minors. Players that do these illegal acts should also have an investigation report on their IP's if it's not hidden by a VPN because players like that are too dangerous to just be roaming around the internet. Anything else whether that's bullying, cursing, hate speech, hacking, spamming, and real-life threats should be only punishable within the servers they violated and be completely up to server moderators on what they want to do to these rule breakers on their server. These violations involve a lot more context and only deserving to be banned from the server where they violated those rules.

I can send you an article which is showing you a false banning when players got banned while playing in realms, so it also appears for hypixel. As a bedrock player, I didn’t even know bedrock has a global ban system. I think that the minecraft community has been spoiled as most other games have had a similar system for years. There shouldn’t be permabans and the max should be like 2 weeks so even if you get falsely banned, it isn’t a huge deal

I think they should add a way to check or uncheck this system So like two types of servers Servers that have this system will filter out any players that are banned from this global system Servers that benefit - smaller servers that are just starting out with little moderation teams, Servers hosting minors, etc. Servers that down will not Servers that benefit - Servers with high moderation already, Anarchy, etc.

The thing I hate about it the most is that anyone could false ban anyone at any given chance. There are just some people who end up banning players for no reason. I am a bedrock player and it is really stressful playing online. In bedrock, if you get banned (whether it be real or fake), you can't play single player or online. However on java, if you get banned (whether it be truly banned or false banned) you still get to play single player. I have no idea if people at mojang is actually reading the ban reports, or just letting some robot read them. I really don't want to lose my save on minecraft. I really hope that mojang fixes or does something to help java and bedrock players to not get actually punished for being false banned. I really don't want to be upset at mojang for this chat reporting update to java, I would also not want anyone else to be toxic to mojang either. I honestly don't like the idea of this. My server is hosted by me completely, so basically its my computer that I am using to run a server. They have no right to control who can and cannot join. Besides the server is whitelisted so its only me and some other high schoolers, but apparently if I or another player says something that Microsoft doesn't like they are gone. I'm definitely not updating my server to 1.19.1 unless I see some serious change cause I like to have control of my own computer thank you. That's a bit if an exaggeration but you get the point. I just thought id voice my opinion since I know a decent amount about running a server.

Ok so about 10 days ago I got banned for a week on Minecraft bedrock. I waited through, not knowing what I did because it doesn’t tell you (which I think is a big flaw) and so then I got unbanned in a week. I get on the private realm with one of my friends. And I get on daily and all we are talking about is his new pc with RTX and how cool it is and just what we are doing in Minecraft like making a sculk farm. And last night, I log on after I got on *just and hour ago* and I was again, banned for a week. I haven’t been on any servers, talked to anyone other than my friend, which we have been friends for 5 years. I am really frustrated and so is my friend. We were making a huge build and now that’s stopped for the whole week. I worked on the Minecraft website last night to try and appeal my ban because I know I didn’t do anything, but obviously I did something minor in our private world. I’ve worked on appealing my ban for a while now and I found something close but I don’t know if it will work. That’s my problem with it all. And a bonus: I didn’t know that you could get permanently banned on Minecraft bedrock. Now I’m afraid it’s 3 bans and ur banned forever. Now I’m afraid to play on the world, on any servers, or anything because I don’t wanna be banned. Thank you for reading my rambling but Minecraft’s ban system NEEDS to change.

I have an idea: could you make a fabric and forge mod with just keys every message and replace every letter of a word clientside and sends another message to the server and for others who use this mod as well they will unkey the message automaticly and just notice nothing? If we would use this as complete mc community we would make a huge step forward in the fight with Microsoft. We could also make a plug-in which works with the mod and unkeys the message after sent to the server.

Here’s a good idea, players on server can report people, in which the reports is revived by server owner and team. From there the team can give further chances to player and or ban player. They can then go and report to Mojan about the player. To many server reports can result in further online ban or limitations. Ie, no chating or using signs on servers. And further up to complete online play ban.

I think the report Microsoft gets also include the server ip. So I think you will only get banned if the situation is very bad and that you won't get banned for saying stuff like "I'm gone kill you" on a faction server or so.

1. JAVA modders will need to and already have started to figure out how to turn off reports to Mojang/Microsoft. 2. When the company says their team manually reviews reports, several things come to mind. The amount of players playing online is enormous. The amount of reports, both legitimate and trolling are enormous. It would take a significant expenditure in human, paid resources to manually review all the reports. As a 42 year old man, who has seen the rise of the video game industry from before there was even widely available multiplayer, I am certain of this: THEY. ARE. LYING. There's no fucking way they are reviewing anything in good faith. It costs too much. The most popular competitive games in the world, MOBAs, use a combination of algorithms and volunteers to review behavior. Their systems are very good at cleaning up those cesspools of humanity. They still have an amount of toxicity but it is no where near what it was closer to the beginning of commercial MOBAs. There's nobody being paid to do this stuff even in the most successful, most profitable, E-Sports. Why the hell would they pay anyone to review Minecraft chat? The suits would never allow it. It would be a full time job, and I don't know how many people they would need to hire. It would be a lot, and it would cost way too much. So they are full of shit. Donate to the modders who can successfully just mod this shit right out of the game. We are on PC's. The talent in the modding scene will always be able to stay ahead of those fuckers even if they have to "cross the streams" (that's an original ghostbusters joke) with hackers and pirates.

Especially not after how they are basically ignoring everyone and pretending that nothing is happening. They way they are handling this is just so extremely sad and wrong. I still hate it. Servers should moderate themselves, not microsoft moderate servers. We've used the old system for 19 versions of minecraft over almost 13 years and it was perfectly fine, no need to change it now. Edit: The report system could also be opt-in where you change a setting in the server properties file to enable mojang moderation, and getting reported and banned on an opt-in server gets you banned only from other opt-in servers as they all have the same rules that mojang would set.

Same here too I got banned from Hive because I was wearing my inappropriate skin. It’s like a Minecraft skin. Basically I got banned it’s like an error and this is why people stay with single player that’s the only thing with people should do is stay on single player because because got a cub accused. And I got false banned but now I got an error because my best friend banned me from Minecraft fnia Bendy and this is why we should not be dating other people a lot of people stay inside single player world is there are a lot of bad people out there. It’s our time it’s just stay away from bad people. there are a bunch of evil people out there, a lot of people did got manipulated. Minecraft put up these type of races stuff because it is highly offensive and I’m not a racist and I’m not caring and I’m not a criminal and I am a good guy. That server is not safe at all that server has bad people on there. People will tell you what to do in your life bad people will take innocent lives. People did this on purpose, the only thing right now is for all of my press people is to stay on single player do not listen to those evil people. Evil people are rude and kind. My parents look up to me because like because because I have pure goodness to me and I am good I stay on the good side the backside no it’s worse. The bad side does not have nothing it’s just evil, pure evil with remorse players have remorse to be it’s worse evil is just worse in human historyv evil and the bad people always come first they always said about things horrible stuff it’s all just evil people plotting evil people trying to just scheme and this is why people needs to stay on single player multiplayer is not a safe game that multiplayer server is it a dangerous zone with This is why we have enough of multiplayer. There’s some bad people on that server it’s time that we have to choose single player we need to build something good make structures make anything you wanted to do this. This is Minecraft. Minecraft is a kids game. Minecraft is entertaining but all the swearing all this cursing and stuff , this is not right for kids. This is bad stuff for kids. where all these bad words come from from Minecraft people I wish I ever wish for Minecraft to make more rules and like getting harassed getting accused getting banned it’s getting like sexual harassment and this is why I stay on single player I’m tired of multiplayer and it’s time for us it’s players. It is time to retire, retirement from playing multiplayer servers, there are too many bad people out there we need to stop all of this from happening. It’s all about the greater good of the good side of all humans against the evil side of all humans who wins the good people always win evil never wins to no fights. Evil is weak is our time is the rooted out evil evil is a heretic and manipulated for all the things I never done to my past old to play games. I should not play games with evil people. and like I just don’t like evil, I am against of evil in Jesus, who has the power God will get rid of evil we are children we are not supposed to be evil. It’s time for us to be good with God and the gods of the heavens I wish for God he’s the save good people. I only wish it’s from Minecraft to have a safe server surfers needed council meeting, white builders architects. Everybody needs to start building powerful of all buildings. Minecraft gives us the resources is the build stuff we should not build inappropriate statues statues need to be banned of oMinecraft building sites is an infinite world, infinite universe. We are the players we built structures it’s our creations to build. I’m really sorry about this. I always have a powerful speech. It’s all about freedom. It’s all about humanity. We’re all human and we’re not machines we organic people it’s our flesh and blood is called generation of all humans we will never be forgotten of every Minecraft. This is the end message of this

Literally I remember that in 2021 somebody once got banned for uploading an image of an orange circle. I think you see why now.

I feel like Microsoft is forgetting something, "Online interactions not rated by the ESRB". That's all they really need.... Not every minecraft player is 8 years old and I think everyone knows that. Who knows it may be some sort of way they can ban more accounts from online play for as many reasons as possible so they will go buy another one. Don't mean to offend anyone but if you are a parent and you let your child aimlessly play online games and use the internet freely. There will always be explicit content and people, and that's on the parent for not administering their internet and games usage, not the developers or publisher.

Yeah its ridiculous asl. When I was younger I had a minecraft server and some of my friends and their little brothers were on it as well. I was asked to make sure it wasn't filled with profanity and nastiness and because I couldn't easily just convince my brothers and friends to stop cussing I just downloaded a plugin to change words as I pleased. Things like Fuck would be changed to Duck etc. It was annoying to some of em which made it really funny and we just ran with it and made more and more variations. Eventually people would get more creative by doing things like F*c* etc etc and we'd just make more and more variations of the censors. It just became a fun little game of who can think of the best way to convey a cuss word and whats the best way to censor that cuss word. See the thing is about that censorship, it was all by choice. Minecraft is taking away that choice. I genuinely believe big youtubers like hermitcraft etc should be boycotting this but instead we have ppl like Xisuma making excuses. (definitely lost a lot of respect there)

Even then, what if you get banned for saying a joke that if without context could be interpreted as illegal conversations, and it also goes the other way, illegal conversations could just be told as a joke and be overlooked. I doubt trying to remove the possibility of illegal activity in minecraft servers is a good idea, there's other places that it can take place anyway, not like minecraft is the main platform for that.

I don't know what the game is all doing but, if in game chat and signs are risky then maybe a discord chat might be safer for now? I'm not an expert on moderation, all I know for myself if I don't like a player I find a way to to stop them joining the world altogether or to immobilize them fully via the use of commands and indestructible blocks and things. Far as chat goes I really don't know, as I'm more into saving a world from being griefed then watching chat, but if chat was bad then they won't be joining the world any.
