She’s from a noble house in Menzoberranzan. On top of that she’s from the first ranked house meaning that her family is extremely deep into Lolth worship. She was raised knowing that if she were to ever want to advance and become the head of the family, she would have to kill her mother the matriarch of the family. I don’t think she is directly related to the Matriarch of her family, like being a daughter. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a grandchild (the Matriarch of that family is this older Drow woman who has had an insane amount of kids, based off the D’rizzt series).

In drow society open treachery is frowned upon, expected even but is permittedly done in the shadows via secret plots. Lolth also tends to take back her power and favor from the matron mothers or priestesses. Leaving them powerless in the face of violent death. Hence, If you manage to kill your mother successfully Lolth rewards you but stabs you in the back later. Male drows may be smaller than the females, don't get to be priests but they either become mages or warriors. Since their powers, abilities can't be taken from them males and the common drow are better off than the females in power, tbh.

Sure, they'll never gain the blessings of Lolth but those aren't really worth it anyway. And if you REALLY want divine power, there are plenty of gods that'd be VERY happy to take your devotion instead.

For a bit of context, drow live in a hierarchy where women are in control. Men are used as bodyguards and warriors, but women can become powerful sorcerors, assassins, and monarchs. They basically considered men to be good for reproduction and if they got out of line or served no purpose, they were executed. They're a lot like spiders. Makes sense considering the deity Lolth. So to be killed by a man means that she was killed by someone who was less than herself.

There are plenty of Drow men who work at the Sorcere wizard academy as teachers and researchers. The arch-wizard is a man who's arguably the most powerful person in all of Menzoberranzan. You're right that men are considered lesser beings. Which is why they make up the majority of warriors but they also make up the majority of wizards because the women become clerics. It's strange you mention sorcerors. I don't remember encountering an actual female sorceror in Drow lore, let alone a sorceror in general. Which monarchs are you talking about? I don't know any monarchs in drow society. Btw: hope this doesn't come across as rude. Just felt that if you're giving context for people unfamiliar then the context should be correct.

Otherwise you wouldn't have Gromph as arch-wizard, Zaknafein as the best swordfighter, etc. Hell, the only reason they let Zaknafein train Drizzt to the heights he was is because they wanted him as a replacement.😊

Drizzt didn't even learn any of his ranger survival skills until he escaped menzoberanzan an met Belwar. And that was just underdark survial

@@LordGarryk Zaknafein died as a sacrifice, was revived to hunt down Drizzt under control of the matron and commited suicide by jumping in acid to save Drizzt's life. Drizzt learned Ranger skills on the surface when he met Montolio. Underdark survival is too different to even call that ranger skills because for almost the entire time he lived on instinct (letting his hunter persona take over). Drow culture has a lot of slaves, mostly orcs/bugbears/etc. Just because drow men are subservient to the women and Lolth doesn't make them slaves. The word "slave" has a specific meaning. I don't care how much you try to twist the facts but Drow men aren't slaves at all. There's no way an actual slave could rise up to heights of Arch-Wizard, Weapon Master, academy instructor, etc. Yet all of those positions are held by men. Gromph Baenre is basically the strongest and most powerful person in Menzoberranzan. The only one he fears is the Lich drow, another man. I know what you mean but there's a big difference between calling Drow men "subservient" vs calling them "slaves".
