Spot on advice, Jade and Alayna! This is coming from an "old biddy" who is more than twice your age! ;-) I've been out since I was 18 years old so much has changed since I was a baby gay in 1977 but as they say "the more it changes, the more it remains the same." The dance of sexuality, romance and love can often be clumsy and frustrating but so worth keeping at it until one eventually finds their groove.

I really like the advice to get to know the person first. I feel like friendship can be such a strong foundation for a relationship - or just, well, a friendship. If everything is too fast and just based on idealization, seduction and sex, it can go so incredibly wrong. Sadly, I feel this is almost the dating culture now: After a few dates, you're expected to get sexual, regardless where you are with one another emotionally. I'm under the impression that this creates way more drama than we need in our lives. Would be nice if we could.. I don't know.. take it slower.

So one hearing the advice on not totally romanticising a new relationship hit hard! My first lesbian relationship lasted 3 years and ended over text, and I romanticised the crap out of it. I was prepared to propose at 21 because of it, but now I'm glad I didn't.
