Brian is not only a monster musician but he is a super nice guy as well. It has been my pleasure to put the band up for the night several times at least whenever they play the Detroit area. I always have some good IPAs and bourbon barrel stouts on hand when they stay because I know Brian really loves those. Ask him about the late night nachos!

About ten years ago, my band opened for A Wilhelm Scream. Brian used my bass rig that night and it blew my mind the kind of tone he was able to get out of my amp. Didn't know it was possible. Dude is suuuper talented and was a treat to be able to watch them play.

@@KingofCrusher RKL, Propaghandi, Belvedere. Unfortunately, the technical skate punk thing isn’t as huge as you think it would be. The Descendents, Lagwagon, and NoFX all border it, but not as much as the metal influenced bands.

I recently saw Cigar open for Lagwagon, I think they are one of the absolute fastest punk bands I've ever heard, and that dude never used a pick. I've seen alot of punk guys use fingers on occasion, but to do it at that speed for a full 45 minuet set is a skill in itself.

Amazing breakdown. Love seeing Wilhelm here. Brian is one of the best in the biz. Propagandhi should definitely be on your short list of other bands to check out! Todd Kowalski has some of the most complex, beautiful and brutal bass lines in all of punk/hardcore.

On the technical end of things, "Elephant March" from the new Belvedere album is pretty standout. And "Bates Motel" by Mute is an absolute masterpiece. Propagandhi and Strung Out somehow get all the attention, but Canadian bands have basically been doing the Prog-punk thing since SNFU.

I'm glad I'm not the first one mentioning RKL. They pushed the Punk-HC boundaries in the '80 towards technical parts and Rock'n'Roll nightmare is their masterpiece. Blocked Out is a bass-oriented song out of this record with a mind blowing intro.

About the "melodic hardcore" tag, that's basically the next step from what NOFX was doing in the 90s. Most people would call both NOFX-esque bands and A Wilhelm Scream-esque bands just "skate punk". Punk folks are not that organized with their subgenre tags as metal folks do, but that's kinda part of the fun.

I saw these guys with the Bouncing Souls last year, and they were amazing! Brian has so much fun when he plays. I'll toss another vote for Hot Water Music, too! Jason Black on bass and George Rebelo on drums makes for a fantastic punk rhythm section. You need to check out Fugazi sometime as well.

I came here to say that I saw them live last year in Hamburg and their sound is real clean. Seeing they do it live in a small venue was super nice. Could see it from very up close! this is definitely still melodic punk/skatepunk...but they were influenced by the thrash punk style of propagandhi...that's the hardcore aspect youre hearing. its that 80s thrash influence.

Watching your face literally light up listening to and analyzing these bands I grew up with gives me a renewed appreciation. Great vids; great series. Thanks for putting these positive vibes out there and showing people there’s some crazy talented folks in the punk scene. Gets overlooked.

REALLY HAPPY YOU DID THIS ONE, A WILHELM SCREAM IS AN AMZING BAND. THERE IS A TON OF AMAZING PLAYING THROUGHOUT THAT ENTIRE RECORD. I don't know where punk ends and melodic hardcore begins, but A Wilhelm Scream are one of the, if not THE, best bands in the genre. Insanely talented, I wish it didn't take them 5+ years to record a new album 😭 More suggestions in this same type of music: Propagandhi - Victory Lap Propagandhi - Failed Imagineer Strung Out - Cult of the Subterranean Rancid - Time Bomb Frenzal Rhomb - Never Had So Much Fun Slightly more out of left field: He Is Legend - Sour

If you've never listened to it, the new Belvedere album "Hindsight is the 6th Sense" is pretty killer. Mute's Thunderblast album was also a masterpiece in the Prog-punk vein.

@@bushleague3472 Damn, new album from Belvedere?! Well it's a couple years old already, where have I been? haha I'm from Canada and I saw them back in 2001 I think. They were amazing live and really cool guys, talked to them after the show and bought a t-shirt.

Great video! Never really paid much attention to AWS, but this track reminded me a lot of one of my favorite bands, Boys Night Out. Might have to listen to more AWS now.
