I've been an avid Etsy shopper since the platforms conception. Let me just say that in the last 6 months or so i have really noticed the site morphing into Amazon territory ie the level of garbage that is now being sold. I consistently buy the same products from the same shops but now i am constantly being advertised to all this crap that I have shown zero interest in. It makes me sad and pissed off for the people who count on the site who really are small business owners making and selling beautiful, handcrafted goods. i hope this goes in favour of the strikers. Good Luck!

Ditto. It doesn’t make any sense to me to drive away the people who made them a unique space. All that does is open up room for another site to become THE place for handmade goods, and honestly, I hope that happens sooner rather than later, because I MISS the old ETSY where I could get one of a kind or small scale produced specialty items.

It’s interesting that every time resellers of mass produced items pretending to be handmade are brought up on Etsy, it’s presented as a new problem. I sold on there more than ten years ago and it wasn’t new then. It never seemed like Etsy ever cared to do much about them.

I don’t understand the point of ETSY morphing into a “new Amazon”. Or Wayfair/Overstock/Wish or whatever… It makes MORE sense, to me anyway, if they keep it their own thing, instead of trying to compete in a market space that is already over represented. MLMs of any kind are awful. They’re predatory to their consultants and consumers. Also, Latisse was the only brand that was FDA approved to use that medication for lashes (last I checked), with a patent. R&F is bad. Love from the spooky Pine Barrens in NJ

Latisse used bimatoprost, which is in the same class but isn’t the exact same as isopropyl cloprostenate. Unfortunately the ingredient is in other lash serums too like GrandeLash. However, that doesn’t make it right to use isopropyl cloprostenate! I am very anti MLM including R&F, so this isn’t me making excuses. I just think we need to be consistent with our outrage about the safety concerns of using what is essentially a drug. The FDA apparently sent letters to the makers of RapidLash too, but it’s still in the ingredients lost on ulta…

It isn't just 6.5% fees total on Esty though, there's a 20p (or cent... they don't actually do the exchange rate, it's 20 whatever your local currency is) to list an item initially, then the same again for each sale, plus sales tax, plus fees on shipping costs if you buy through them, plus a 4%+20p processing fee and a 0.25% regulatory operating fee. By the time you're done that's 40p+ 10.75% (that's excluding shipping fees and costs). As someone who sells mostly stickers and other small items that I design and produce myself, for every £1 sticker I sell, I pay etsy 50.75p. etsy takes more than half of what my customers pay and that's not even accounting for the cost of paper, ink, my cricut or god forbid, my time... That's pretty damn obscene and I'm already in the process of working on my own site so I can point my etsy customers there for future purchases. It's worth noting that Etsy also constantly pressures us to offer free shipping, and to ship orders within increasingly tiny time frames. Which is impossible for custom orders. If I offered free shipping I'd be paying for the privildge of someone buying my stuff. It would cost more than I make period.

Everything you said about Etsy is true. Selling on Etsy is my full time business and income. This increase is awful, even though it doesn’t seem like much, and it comes at the worst time. Rent prices are on the rise, material cost is on the rise, and we, the sellers, are expected to be okay with this increase with no promise of what they even plan to do with it in terms of seller benefits. I appreciate investing in marketing, but Etsy also forces sellers that reach a certain threshold to opt into these adverts and then charges us a 15% cut for any sale made from them! The strike comes at a time where this fee increase was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. In the last year or so, they’ve implemented several things or increase xyz costs, and us sellers are fed up with it. I am so happy about the strike, unfortunately I can’t even participate because times are that hard for me at the moment. An algorithm change last summer really did a number on my sales, and I’ve been operating and LIVING paycheck to paycheck ever since. Thank you for talking about this Jen and bringing more awareness.

The puff isn't specifically for the powder, that's why it doesn't come with it. It has two separate sides and you can switch around the handle to be able to use both sides. One side is for applying cream products, like cream blush, highlight, and foundation and the other side is for powder products. I think a way to maybe make this go down easier for people is to offer a “set” with the puff included at a higher price point, then have a “refill” with powder only at a lower cost. It’s more ecologically sound to not discard a puff each time you replace the powder anyway, and if they can reduce the packaging on the powder and offer a refill meant to use the container multiple times as well? All the better. Honestly, not everyone will utilize a puff anyway, as some will prefer a brush or a sponge (or another, cheaper puff).
@onewhisper22005
@onewhisper22005 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. First, he said the puff can be used for the foundation AND powder. So, if he’s going to provide it with the powder, I feel like he’d have to also provide it with the foundation. In that case, the powder and/or foundation would cost more with the puff included. Since so many people like using brushes or sponges, not puffs, it makes no sense to me to charge more for the items when it’s going to come with something a lot of people aren’t going to use. By providing it separately, he can have the foundation and powder be a little less than they would be with the puff included and people can decide whether or not they want to get the puff. He said you don’t NEED the puff to use the foundation or powder. So, it’s not like he said “oh, you’re only going to get this flawless application with the puff.” No, he even said how you can apply the foundation and powder with a brush/sponge. So I just feel like people are going to get upset no matter what and this is something to complain about unfortunately. I do think it would have been smart to offer it as a bundle so people who want it maybe got a little discount by getting them together. But, he does self fund his products. So, maybe he can’t really afford to offer a bundle of them at a cheaper price? I just always try to think of other peoples perspectives before I ever get upset about stuff. I wish other people did the same!

Two days ago I emailed customer service requesting that they cancel my order because it had been 20 days since I placed it. There was NO mention of it being on backorder at the time of purchase. Well, an hour after I sent that email I get a shipping notification. The following day I received a response saying that they couldn't cancel my order because it had been shipped. They said that the reason it took so long was because of the "overwhelming customer response to the collection". @@amyc9155 I've also seen this situation in the Instagram comments as well. I ordered on 3/15. It's been almost 5 weeks, no products, no refund. I've gotten, "We're investigating ", it's been canceled (from their customer service), and most recently it will ship soon (official formal email from them). And one of the most shitty things is no official email when it happened, and no official statement from the company or Pat McGrath herself. Even the Bridgerton orders, not a peep.

That's really interesting (and for me very surprising!) to hear. I'm in the UK and placed a decent-sized order on the Pat McGrath website last Monday very late at night, had great communication throughout and had it land on my doorstep 3,400 miles away on Thursday morning, not even three full days later. It's absolutely baffling that their international service should be so much better than their domestic service! I would love if you could look into this Jen, I'd be fascinated to know what the answer is.

But are 30+ shades really necessary for a foundation to cover the whole range of human skin colours? I wonder if it could be done in fewer shades depending on formula. Unless it's really necessary and people are left out otherwise, I think releasing a big range just to avoid the backlash can be wasteful and even confusing for the customers who struggle to pick the right shade.

You miat definitely can have small number of shades with a good range. So what if he's self funded? If he's gonna make small number of shades, what's stopping him from expanding the range instead? It's simply because they put POCs as second thought. All these people making excuses for him saying his brand is self funded are probably yt or white passing people who barely give a crap about racial issues.

You didn't mention the WORST side effect of lash serums that contain this ingredient (as well as the other similar ingredients used in other brands) and that is: orbital fat loss. This is not that uncommon. Lash serums can cause the eye to look older and sunken as the fat pad is atrophied. This is a VERY unsightly side effect and one a lot of people don't know about.

I use neulash and in the product information, they discuss this as a possibility with long term use. I also did a deep dive on how their active ingredient was discovered to work for lash growth, and it was originally used for treatment of glaucoma, which I thought was interesting! I have used it for over a year and so far, I haven't had any fat loss but I know Mel Thompson used it for years and did have a little bit. I don't think it looked bad though, definitely didn't think she looked older or malnourished or anything, and had I not known about neulash, I wouldn't have ever even noticed.

Etsy pretty much sent us sellers an email saying, "The past hear has been more profitable than ever, so we're gonna raise your fees." Where's the logic in that. They really are trying to turn into Amazon and as a result, small shops like mine are really struggling. I didn't close my shop because I really hadn't heard about the boycott but I understand those who have. They need to go back to basics because that's when they were the best and why so many people joined.

ETSY are also putting arbitrary reserves on sellers account. Sometimes withholding 75% of sellers funds for up to 90 days, and beyond. Impossible for a small businesses ' cash flow. At the moment, ETSY doesn't appear to be releasing payment at all for a large amount of sellers, despite those sellers following all of the rules required for the release of funds. ETSY at this point is simply keeping sellers money, with no ability to get through all of the layers of resistance within its customer service teams.

Jen, you'd be the one to talk to about this. I love ColourPop eyeshadows and Lippies. However, I ordered the Pretty Fresh foundation and was extremely disappointed. Their color names were a huge miss. I am always squarely between fair and light. So I ordered what I thought would be the perfect match PLUS the shade below and the shade after. Well all the shades were so incredibly pale. I've never seen anything like this. That's one thing, but the really bad part was the makeup was already going patchy while I was still finishing the rest of my face!! I tried to reach them and let them know, but their website didn't allow for any comments whatsoever. I couldn't leave a review. I'd ordered it directly from their website. I'm wondering if you've heard of this before. I was really shocked.
