@@viciousLUA Actually they aren't. For this entire decade so far, the 4 movies from Disney Animation Studios have all been original stories (Raya, Encanto, Strange World, and Wish). And all 4 didn't do good financially in theaters, with Encanto being the only success when it went to streaming. The fact that they are now falling back to sequels again with Zootopia 2 and Frozen 3 in the pipeline as well, shows that they believe these movies will make more money than an original story, which is probably true based on their track record

I feel like companied need to realise that a short development time is actually going to put people off these days. We know about crunch and exploitation, we are oversaturated in underrated ideas. We want to wait for good art, not for something that will get only our curiosity payment, and maybe jingle enough keys to hook some kids. How to make Moana 2 a little bit less hopeless: 1. Get Auli’i and Dwayne back-there’s no movie without them. Point blank period. 2. Get Lin back…or at the very least, someone with musical theater songwriting experience. The soundtrack will arguably be very different than the first one because Lin’s writing style is so discernible, but at least it won’t be a garbage pop album. 3. Delay the movie’s release for at least another year. Give the animators and writers ample time to develop the story so they can produce the best movie they can.

I have honestly disliked that man for quite a few years for how full of himself he seems (including through how much he casts himself for major roles in his works, even though his singing skills are kinda bad, and his acting is mid).

There's something so depressing about seeing an artistic vision be realised, produced, presented, but then permanently and legally shoved away on a shelf if it doesn't make enough money as a product. An interesting example; the Making Fiends cartoon; a passion project of an animator, picked up by Nickelodeon, cancelled after 6 episodes, and now forever blocked from being continued by the artist that made it because Nickelodeon legally has the rights to it all.

Tho if the main characters voice actors havent signed any contracts yet, my best guess is that it wont be about the main characters at all. From what I’ve heard, they are taking the episodes of the tv show that was supposed to go on Disney+ and rewriting it to fit together for a movie. So that’s probably why none of the talent was returning until it became a theatrical release.

The most likely thing that happened is that higher ups wanted to pay animators TV production rates versus paying them actual movie production salaries, which is SIGNIFICANTLY higher. Extra animators will have also to be hired on short notice to try as fix everything before the release and crunch work as much as they can. And the direction is probably just as awful if they decided to go full movie in just a couple of months instead of the series. Plus, wasn't there going to be a live action?? Terrible decisions being made
