very few casual viewers who are consuming the coverage understand it was an art exhibit, with the celebs being a live human frame for the artist to interpret a THEME. He also did '2024 met gala theme explained' KZbin video that gives background on the theme, which helps understand some of the more subtle references in the outfits worn. Imo it's worth a watch. @@Dara_107 woah you’re right about the Ajrakh saree Alia looks absolutely regal in that one 😍 And I also I didn’t know about Deepika’s similar one. I have to admit between that one and Alia’s met gala look I prefer Deepika’s old one - but I would say Deepika’s and the Ajrakh one are tied for sure. And also I fully agree with you that the met one is by no means basic. It’s clear that Sabyasachi put a great deal of thought and detail into it even if the end result isn’t super novel. Wild that people are saying otherwise and insulting Alia like that. Fandoms get so toxic for no reason it’s sad

I feel like this more and more about the Met Gala - so many people have stopped trying at all with the theme and it's so boring. Like...do one ounce of homework and dress outside the box for once!

I was surprised I didn't see more people talking about Keoghan, I LOVED that he went so old school with it, and had a different color and texture of fabric than we are used to seeing on men. I did see a lot of praise for Dan Levy, and for as basic as I thought his suit looked, I did find it somewhat charming and on theme, with the flowers fading into blackness.
@valeriekhall7 ай бұрын
I think a lot of people are missing that Dan Levy's suit wasn't floral printed at all- It was CRYSTALLIZED. Every. Single. Tiny. Flower. Was. Hand. Beaded. For that, alone, he goes way up to the top of the menfolk for me.

Loved Tyla‘s and Lana del Rey‘s looks and was deeply disappointed by Stray Kids, though that last was kinda to be expected since Tommy Hilfinger was the one to dress them. Still, I couldn’t help but expect more considering stage outfits and that male kpop idols more regularly wear androgynous or feminine styling - if it had to be suits, why not some nice floral patterns, applications or rips/burns that make the clothes look old and semi-destroyed?

So a lot of people, myself included, looked into the short story that this year‘s met gala was inspired by, and the plot of the short story is about a couple that stays in their home and retreats to use their garden because an angry mob is going to destroy their property. It’s really about the haves vs have nots, the hoarding of resources, and vilifying the masses. I think that too much attention is being placed on their outfits rather than what is happening in the world right now, and this theme, although it was decided last year, feels very tongue-in-cheek and comes across as disrespectful and rude. Some might say elitist… I think that a lot of people are excited to see their favorite celebrities attending, but most did not fulfill their fantasy because they either didn’t understand the theme (or took it literally to be dressed like a flower in a garden) or they realized what the theme was and decided not to dress up because it would have been discussed negatively.
@sweetsnejinka94117 ай бұрын
Yeah the story is a bold choice.
@alylopez37217 ай бұрын
Yeah tbh when she was recounting what the short story was I didn’t feel that it was about love or the sands of time, but rather about the rich and elite having the ability, the privilege and resources, to leave the world behind, to live and isolate themselves in peace and in a romantic landscape ignoring the worlds woes. The masses come to reclaim and yet they are the villains.
@danicee7 ай бұрын
@@alylopez3721 Exactly, it's doesn't come across as a story about love but holding onto their privilege and comforting one another in the loss of their privileged life. Because if it was about love none of the material items would matter, they would have each other and that's what would resonate.

I really liked this year’s Met Gala! I thought this was the best Met Gala since the Heavenly Bodies one of 2018! I thoroughly enjoyed A LOT of the looks, and the majority of people stuck to the theme in SOME way. Even if it was as basic as just having flowers incorporated into the look, thereby ignoring the deeper themes of time and preservation, this still resulted in the majority of looks contributing to a cohesive visual experience on the carpet.

Oh THANK GOD finally someone else that hates Lana Del Rey's look! I feel crazy as a long time Alexander McQueen stan, especially since Widows of Culloden and that closing look is one of his most iconic pieces. The moment Lana showed up I thought it felt like a cheap party city Shein ripoff of the look. It's true that John Galliano adapted his own look for Zendaya, so of course he had an edge in one of those 'referencing an archival piece' looks, but still, Sean McGirr is really proving himself to just rip off Lee McQueen's aesthetics superficially and reproduce/reinterpret them with not even the level of tailoring that Sarah Burton at least delivered since 2012. The construction of the dress and the fabrics looked terrible and the shoes.... guillotine! As we saw with the Karl Lagerfeld year, or the Charles Frederick Worth year, there were some designers that really succeeded in interpreting an iconic designer's vision and adapting it to their own style. McGirr is obviously not one of those designers capable of doing that. I only saw Wisdom Kaye's look much later in the day, and I was really pleased. I had heard that Robert Wun was doing something for someone at the Met Gala but forgot all about it so it was nice to see such a signature Robert Wun look represented at the Met Gala.

Call me mean but if I was in charge of the met gala. I’m not inviting people who’ve messed up the theme two in a row in the 2010s. And if you go off theme but don’t give the decency of looking good then kiss that next invite goodbye. With every 15 years I’d have a redemption year for anyone who wants to get back to the gala and I’d most likely rack up the ticket price to $100k since a lot of people would definitely not make the cut.
