Every year between boxing day and new years my local train shop hosts a sale where everything is being sold at a good discount so I decided to stop by and see what they had. Their selection of vintage consignment locomotives wasn't bad so I ended up picking up a few things and am overall pleased with my haul.
For anyone wondering the store is called "Larkspur Line" Located in Ontario Canada.

I have 2 of those little Fleischman steeple cabs. They are great on a European themed layout. The gears underneath are for running it on a steep cog railway. Good haul! I guess all those tunnel portals mean there will be some serious hills on the layout 🤔 Happy New Year! 🥳

If that round thing at the bottom of the loco were some sort of pickup shoe for a third rail you would probably see a high electrical current as the axle would short-circuit the two regular rails.

Nice Haul, I see some folks seem to know something about the little steepleCab. I woulda guessed AC, but maybe not.! hope not. There is one Electric freight line still in the USA the Iowa traction. The Pepsi car is a Tyco. I used to be able to get $20 out of those on eBay without too much trouble, so $4.95 CAD is a good price for one. It's less common than a lot of the other advertising cars. The green and yellow 1340 is also a Fleischmann, it's meant to represent a Baldwin VO1000 or similar switcher. Those bring about $40 usually. The Roco shark was sold in North America by Model Power for years. I have one just like it in my show inventory. it's always worth looking. One show I found a nice, factory painted Mantua Belle of the 80s 4-4-0 for $50. Those were sold in the early 1950s. It's probably worth four or five times that (really hard to find one this nice) but it's a keeper for me.
@BarefootCuer
@BarefootCuer 2 жыл бұрын
The Fleischmann green and yellow CNW Baldwin switcher looks to be in great condition and would be a bargain for that price. A scarcer version has the C&NW logo and "Route of the 400" as decals. Among the box cars was an old Fleichmann model as well - the "Pennsylvania Merchandise Service" tuscan read & grey car produced form 1954-1958. In 1959 the paint was changed to the "State of Maine" red white nad blue of the BAR. Look at the cast trucks: it will say "Made in (Western) Germany). The little steamer is the "americanized" version of a German switcher made by Fleischmann (check the underframe!) When you do a video like this, please go slower and try to get a full shot of the whole drawer.

Some German electric locomotive models have a switch that changes power pickup from the wheels to the pantograph on the top (with brands like Marklin, you can supply models of electric locomotives with power from a live overhead catenary system for realism and ease of track maintenance). I'm not sure if Fleischmann electric locomotives had a similar system, but it's worth looking for a switch of some kind on that little locomotive.

The littlle Fleischmann electric is a free lance engine based on the German E 69 - this particualr "Edelweiss-Lokalbahn" engine has a cog wheel drive for the Fleischmann cog rail system introduced in 1968. It does not have a switch to run off the catenary. The pantograph is a dummy. It runs on 12V DC. The contact on the underside is not for pickup.

The steam engine you looked that yes I would say was a Fleischmann branded locomotive also that electric locomotive that you're trying to get running that you bought at Larkspur looks to me like it could be an AC locomotive but that tab on the bottom that has the metal contact in the middle I have the same thing on myplacement 0-60 locomotive and they used it for a special track that placement had so that you could actually stop the locomotive still have power going to the rails but it had a little part that lifted up the locomotive with that pick up shoe and stopped the train. Then when you wanted the train to resume you push down on the lever that pushed the part on the track that lifted up the locomotive on the pickup shoe drop that back down level with rail ties and the train continue around the track

Old german Locomotives are likely and mostly made out of metal and they are heavy.Nowadays i would say german locs are wether made of plastic or metal (expensiver ones).We have like 50 percent metal and 50 percent plastic trains.

So this loco is DC. It is a special on in that it is geared to run slowly and is able to run on a toothed rail.

The German Electric locomotive is an E69. I believe they were used for local freight services during the 1930s.

Mainly passenger use from 1909 on a steep grade Bavarian Branchline with short trains. Ran into the seventies and now preserved.

@@johnd8892 There were 5 E69s built, in 1905, 1909, 1912, 1922 and 1930 respectively. They ran on the line from Murnau to Oberammergau. The increased traffic due to the Passion Play was part of the reason for their construction. The E 69 02 & 03 did shunting work in Heidelberg from 1955 to 1964. All are preserved. The all had nicknames, too: "Katharina" (body made by the Katharinenhuette in Rohrbach/Saar), "Pauline", "Hermine", "Johanna" and "Adolfine", named for you-know-who.

passed up the Pepsi and Starkist, that is painful for a Tyco fan to watch..moving along.. I think that loco is meant for Marklin 3 rail track. Not 100% sure myself about that. Yes there is such a thing a 3 rail HO track. Used 3 rail HO track Can be found on Ebay but I am not sure if it is still made new. Unless you can figure out how to convert into a 2 rail loco. Otherwise it would make a nice static display.

Others seem to think it will work on two rail track, no idea yet. I was temped by the Pepsi car but I've gotta watch how much I'm adding right now.
