Twin EDF running on 4s is pretty sweet. Those F18s need to fly without gear in my book. If it's too small for retracts, it's a tosser all day. That said, I just got my 1st shipment of Spektrum's new "pro air" series 120c 4s 2900mAh packs today. Pretty compact LiPos. I'm stoked for this lousy weather to GTFO so I can take a few planes out and give 'em a whole can o' beans 😊 Cool little Hornet, tho. Can't say I've ever been impressed with the Nanner Hobby planes. But it looks like they're upping the game a bit. Might need to take another look at what they've got. Thanks Adam and Heidi 👍

Great review as always Adam. XFly makes some beautiful foam aircraft. I have a few of their planes and really enjoy them. I would love to see more retracts in these smaller Twin-EDF park jets. I have the XFly Twinliner 40mm that i put my own retracts. There were some old GWS retracts that. I modified it to work. What is cool about XFly is they sell the Twinliner with just a white base and no livery so that you can modify it and do your own thing to it. Have you reviewed the Twinliner? Thanks for listening to my Rambles, lol.

Ha Ha! No sweat...ramble my friend. I love these 40mm models, but simplicity is the point of them really. More features just adds more weight/cost that doesn't make sense from an investment perspective at this size. We did a review on the Twinliner...love it!

So what's the key to landing one of these or the e-flite F-14 for example? I'm still learning and to me, it seems when I come in at what I consider a good landing speed, it stalls. So I come in hot and it just aint pretty. Any tips? Working on a simulator too but their jets don't drop like a brick like mine.
@ModelAV8RChannel
@ModelAV8RChannel 3 ай бұрын
They are all different. The F-14 requires a controlled approach. You have to keep power in a bit longer. This F-18 you can cut the power much sooner. It's just a matter of a proper flare in ground effect. If you're stalling and dropping it in then you're completing the flare too high.

Lovely model and obviously 10x better without the wheels! I don't fly Spektrum so what exactly is your mix doing? A tad of up elevator at full throttle? On a switch?

@ModelAV8RChannel
@ModelAV8RChannel Ай бұрын
We probably will. Right now we're working on reviews of the F-15 and Felon. My guess on the hand launching is that it is like the E-Flite twin 40mm F-14...wide and hard to get a grip on unless your hands are huge. We have a review of that, and we made a launch grip that solves the problem.

Thanks for the excellent reviews Adam. One question though: what are the pros and cons of the XFly vs the FMS Hornets wrt their respective elevator controls? (all flying vs stab & elevator) It seems the FMS was easier to keep under control during a stall. What do you think is the reason for that?
@ModelAV8RChannel
@ModelAV8RChannel 21 күн бұрын
Yeah the FMS has a more docile stall, but the XFly is easy not to stall once you know what it does and recovery is easy if you do... neutralize the controls and fly out if it under power. Just don't o it too low...same with most airplanes. The full flying stab is scale, the twin sound is cooler, and the gear is easy to remove for hand launching with the XFly. The FMS looks a bit more scale overall, has gear not intended for removal and hand launching...although you could set it up to take them off with a bit of work, and it has a bit more power...which it needs badly if the gear stays on, lol.

How would you say this xfly F-18 compares to the xfly F-22?
@ModelAV8RChannel

Both are great flying little jets. They both look and fly the part of what they are. The F-22 will turn on a dime and is almost impossible to stall.

@ModelAV8RChannel

They are both really good. The F-22 is a touch more capable because of the added elevator throw possibilities. We just flew both the F-15 and Felon...man they are all great. If one of them is your favorite jet, just get that one and I'd bet you'll have a blast with it.

Hey guys, thanks for another great review. Could you point me to some info about the ‘SAFE launch assist mix’. I’d love some help working out how to get that programmed in. Thanks again! :)
@ModelAV8RChannel
@ModelAV8RChannel 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Sam. You actually don't have to program it. Once you bind to have SAFE or activate it, the launch mode is there. It is automatic. When you first plug up and the RX initializes...when you hand launch in SAFE it recognizes the lateral G forces of the launch and adds some up elevator. It leaves that input in until you flip the switch into AS3X. Once you do that the next time you flip into SAFE it is normal SAFE mode.

I like the jet, but I wish these companies would start making Super Hornet molds instead of the F-18c molds. It adds more lifting area, making it fly better
@ModelAV8RChannel
@ModelAV8RChannel 4 ай бұрын
There's more area there already. While the twin 40mm makes it possible to streamline the mid section, none of these models are exact outline. Because of the low Reynolds number of models, very few can be made exact scale as far as outline. It just doesn't translate to a good flying model, so to make them fly better as models embellishments are made. More forgiving airfoils, 5% to 10% larger wingspan, tail, etc. That is a pretty common practice with every model company.

Why do these smaller jets not have a rudder? It’s so annoying because they would be so much better if they did. I would totally buy that instantly if it just had a rudder.
@ModelAV8RChannel
@ModelAV8RChannel 3 ай бұрын
They are keeping weight and cost down. Simple jets that perform well at a low price is the goal. Same reason they don't have flaps, retracts, etc. The other thing is the smaller the fan, the harder it is to produce thrust. These twin 40mm need to be as light as possible, and still require some energy management. As they get larger - 70mm and above ...making enough thrust to carry the extra weight of all the goodies is easier, and you can charge enough for a larger model to cover the extra costs of designing in and tooling for more features. Tooling is the making of the mold...the most expensive part of any new models production by far. It's more than you would think...by a lot. Any moving part you add...raises the cost of design in CAD and the actual tooling considerably. On a $300 to $600 70mm to 90mm that is not an issue. On a $170 hand tosser it is. Plus...many like simple and cheap, and many don't use the rudder on the ones that have them anyway. Something for everybody. Planes like this may not be your thing, and that is fair, but for many they are. I'm a 3D pilot...love rudder so I get it, but for what its worth...when I take these for what they are...I have a blast flying them.
