Nice job, Moy! An upgrade like this is definitely on my list for the harbor freight dust collector of got. I had been thinking of buying a cyclone, because I've been kind of intimidated by building the baffle. You made it look easy though! Nice job!

Thank braxton! I was kinda dreading making the baffle too.. but it's really not hard at all.

Very nice. A dust collector is a great addition to a shop when you have the tools which will hook up to it. Sadly the tools in my shop which need it most pretty much are horrible with the dust collector. The planer and jointer work great with it though, so it is still worth it.

Nice job. Give me some ideas for my set up. One question I have is how do you handle removing the garbage can to dump the saw dust? It doesn't look like there is a lot of flex or movement between the collector and can to be able to slide it out. Thanks for posting the video.

I was lucky a few months ago when shopping for a dust collector at Harbor Freight. When talking to the manager bout using a 20% coupon she sold me the "green" 2 hp display model for $50! I am going to build a cyclone like yours but I may put my discharge hose though a plate the window and eliminate the bag all together.. That way the dust will all be outside from the collector.
@moyperezwoodshop17229 жыл бұрын
Nice!50 bucks is a steal! With the coupon I paid 140 for mine.. yes I thought about punching a hole in the wall to exhaust it outside. But my neighbors windows are about 8 feet from where It.. I don't want o be a bad neighbor.. but that is definitely the way to go if you can.
@KSFWG9 жыл бұрын
+Moy perez woodshop Punch the hole. Tell the neighbors it's a great way to conserve water because the saw dust retains moisture... ;) I'm trying to help you out here, Moy... lol Besides, who ever talks to their neighbors these days? ;)
@kimshirley70149 жыл бұрын
My house sits on a 33,000 sqf lot that 3 houses were demolished sat on. The previous owner left a one car garage so that is why I have the separate shop..This way I don't have to mix sparks with saw dust! I basically own my side of the street. No neighbors to bother! I will scatter any accumulation with my riding lawn mower! Lol!

@moyperezwoodshop17229 жыл бұрын
Thanks marisa. The baffle is attached to the lid. I just pull two hoses off and pull the lid and baffle assembly, then the trash can is dumped. I haven't ran in for a long time but I plan on doing a follow up video soon.

Looks pretty slick. How does it do on extracting the fine dust?
@moyperezwoodshop17229 жыл бұрын
It seems to work okay. Only a small amount of dust settles on the bottom of the clear bag. I've only ran it for a little while. I'll do a follow up video when it gets more use. Thanks for watching
@hardnox66559 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same set-up. It works great. Do yourself a favor and get rid of the filterbag and get a real filter. You can get one from Wynne Industries which will bolt right up. It improves the flow a lot and eliminates the super fine dust that the bag will not catch. Your lungs will thank you for it. BTW, none of the filter bags work as promised regardless of manufacturer. Side note: the Harbor Freight model is identical to Jet or Ricon, just different colors, and half the price.
@moyperezwoodshop17229 жыл бұрын
Nice! Yes I looked into getting one until I saw how much they cost.woooouuu.. I'm sure it is well worth it though. I'll need to save up a little? Thanks
@hardnox66559 жыл бұрын
Mine was $225 delivered. It's still cheaper than lung cancer or emphysema. On that note, I have DIY air filtration system that I built that works great that I will share with you. It's cheap to make, super quiet, and uses a permanent filter. How do I send it to you?

I've only put it through a couple of test runs.. I haven't had a chance to get out to the shop since I finished it. But if you check out Matt Heere's video he has had the same basic configuration for a while and he gets pretty good results. I plan on running it for a while and then do a follow up video in the future..thanks for watching

Great video. I like how you put the can on wheels. That will be handy. How hard is it to unhook everything to empty the can?
@moyperezwoodshop17228 жыл бұрын
+Steve Hougham thank you, it's not hard at all. To empty it I slip off two hoses and remove the lid/Thien baffle and wheel over to my trash can and dump. It is working out great
@Cdshakes9 жыл бұрын
So the hole in the top of the lid for the hose to connect to is just using 5" metal hvac pipe too? How did you secure it in?
@moyperezwoodshop17229 жыл бұрын
Hey colin. Yes it is.. used the same technique as the intersecting pipe. Cut tabs and bend them. Drive sheet metal screws and polyurethane construction adhesive.
