Duane Almond from the Almond Brothers used the slide ,what he has on His pinky. He was well known for it. Steve's father was important in the sense that He had the greats like les Paul the man that invented the electric guitar as we know it. He was raised up with greats like that all around Him. Les Paul not only invented it, He played the hell out of it.😎

I’m 78, this is my music from when I was divorced and for the first time in my life I was free to enjoy life. Your music is bringing back wonderful memories of when I was beautiful. Thursday, the 14th, I just welcomed my 4th great grandchild from my youngest granddaughter. I have 4 granddaughters, and one grandson. It is total 70's. Steve Miller was one of the biggest acts of the decade. When "The Joker" hit the airwaves it was everywhere all the time. Steve is a GREAT Singer, Songwriter and Guitar Player. He is using a Slide, to help make those crazy sounds. Seen the Steve Miller Band live a few times and he is full of energy and style and a little wry humor. Great stuff.

Steve was 5 years old when his dad took him to one of Les' gigs. Wide-eyed Steve told his dad (a physician) "I wanna play guitar like him..." 😊🎸 I'm not sure that Steve ever surpassed Les, but he sure came close. Of course, Les Paul not only wrote & played music, but improved guitar electronics and revolutionized the modern recording studio.

My dad started guitar lessons in his mid-thirties. He played a Gibson Les Paul that my middle brother inherited after my Dad passed. I was only seven at the time but I remember the instructor actually coming to our house along with my uncle & a couple of his buddies every week. My Mom would always disappear 😂 but I would sit there totally fascinated. That is when my love of music began and I thank my Dad every day.

As a child in Wisconsin, Steve Miller received guitar lessons from Les Paul, who became his godfather. Miller has vivid memories of the lessons and performances, and has said that Paul taught him his first three chords. Les Paul had influence with the Gibson Guitars

Yep, a slide, used to be a glass bottle neck back in the day used by blues guitarists, then adapted/adopted by others later. My late husband's was a bluesman and had about 6 slides, glass, metal, plastic depending on the sound he wanted

I always put Steve Miller band and Bob seger in the similar category of working man's band and the reason why I do that is I've seen both of them four or five times many times in the same tour they would play huge stadiums and they would also go to small intimate venues wherever they're fans were they would play so that they wouldn't have to make major drives into the big cities it was just amazing that they would do that for their fans Great songs I think everybody I knew had the greatest hits album growing up it's just phenomenal

Thing on his finger is called a "Bottleneck slide" - they're often actually made of glass though this one appears to be metal. Traditionally they'd be actual glass necks of beer bottles, with the sharp edges polished smooth.

This is one of those rare times where someone is just really pretty much a lyrical and musical rock god, but doesn't look like one whatsoever and is very unassuming. I mean, by the mid 80s , he looked like the person your dad plays cards with - - not someone who's written some of the best top 10 rock hits of the 70s-80. Don't get me wrong he was still rocking out. He is one of those people that we probably took for granted because he just always had a hit on the radio pretty much all the time. But what a lot of people might not know or some who’ve already written on here his godfather told him to play the guitar with none other than Les Paul. There is a wonderful KZbin video of Ry Cooder playing bottleneck "Prodigal Son" and another where he plays with Taj Mahal, another legend, called "Hooray, Hooray". A big rabbit hole of New Orleans style blues. The foundation of rock and roll.

Love this song. I’m a 67 baby grew up 70s wore this record out on a 45 record had vinyl album also. Brings back good memories sitting in bedroom just playing vinyl records on this little record player in my room. So thanks for this good memory this gave me. Much love ❤
