I was too! I was supposed to be in the ring at the end, but, the assistant director didn't like me or something. I did enjoy the Church's Chicken and free Pepsi though. And yes, the tears in the end were real, the speech was improvised, and we were all crying. We were told not to boo, but whistle, but we booed anyways.

Interesting fact: Stallone nearly died while filming the final fight. He and Dolph Lundgren actually sparred for the movie, and Dolph hit him so hard in the chest that it swelled his heart and he had to be airlifted to a hospital and spent several days in ICU. In a separate incident, Carl Weathers (Apollo) nearly quit the movie because of Lundgren’s aggression during their fight. Filming was stopped while Weathers was talked into staying on and Lundgren was made to tone it down. Dolph Lundgren is actually super intelligent, speaking multiple languages and having a chemical engineering degree.

It's amazing how we all picked up on the foreshadowing about Apollo dying yet we were all in shock as the funeral scene faded in. I think that shock followed by multiple top notch training montages is what made it such a beloved film. I wish more people gave Rocky V credit. It's very different but still a very good entry in the series and I think you'll appreciate it when it comes time to watch!

Hey, just sharing some facts about the actor that played Ivan Drago, his name is Dolph Lundgren, he's a chemical engineer, and a real experts in multiple martial arts (judo, karate, taekwondo) he's 4th dan black belt in Kyokushinkai Karate, and he was the captain of the Swedish team, he also is an european champion in Karate on 1980/1981. A "fun" episode is that during the filming of Rocky IV, Stallone was asking to Lundgren to make the scene more real and to hit him harder, well, Dolph hit Stallone so hard that sent him to a hospital, he broke Stallone's ribs... there's a video on YT when Lundgren tells the story.

Rocky IV is when the series took a turn for the absurd. The robot, the boxer who can punch harder than bullets, and lots and lots of montages. Despite the silliness (or maybe because of it), it is still a beloved sequel in the series. I've always likened the movie to the cinematic equivalent of drinking a Red Bull. It's not very fulfilling, but damn if it doesn't give you a rush of energy. However, let's just say that Rocky IV would prove to be an extremely important installment much later on in subsequent movies.

Rocky 4 is definitely reflective of it's time; MTV style music montages, US vs USSR but I still think it's a solid chapter. You're in the home stretch now! Five is my least favorite but I still like it. Then one of the best in Rocky Balboa (6). Don't forget the (currently) two Creed movies after that though :)

It's a sappy, overly melodramatic Hollywood fluff story. In the backdrop of the Oscar worthy first film, they all pale in comparison because of that Hollywood style over-the-top hero crap. I expected Thanos to be the opponent in Rocky V 😅 And there's nothing wrong with liking that stuff, if you buy into it as many do, but it gets hard to watch after 2 for me, and even that had cringe moments.

Great reaction, Mom! BTW, there are several reasons why Rocky doesn't keep his hands up to protect his face. For one thing, we've seen that he can take a lot of hard punches - in "Rocky III," Apollo said that Rocky had the hardest head in the world. But he keeps his arms by his sides to protect from body blows. (Boxers say that head shots aren't actually painful, but body blows are agonizing.) A body shot from Drago could probably knock Rocky out. From a movie perspective, maybe Stallone didn't want to hide his face too much!

'Whatever happened to "One more bad shot and then he goes blind"' - an astute observation. The first 2 films were great because they were grounded in reality, and Rocky's health worries were a part of that. By the time we get to Rocky 4 we're in cartoon land. I don't hate Rocky 4 - it's just a different kind of film.

You should check out the director's ultimate cut Stallone did last year. He had a lot of unused footage that really made for an even better movie in my opinion. The new cut has more time with Apollo and Rocky's relationship, gives more character to Drago, and removes the robot LOL There are some other alternate takes throughout that make it worth watching. But in particular, if you like the Apollo/Rocky friendship, the new cut is something special to enjoy. More Carl Weathers is never a bad thing.

@scottknode898

Dolph Lundgren didn’t get into acting until he made his debut in A View To A Kill the Roger Moore James Bond film as KGB henchmen Venz in a uncredited role also released in 1985 before he played Ivan Drago which was his first credited role. Dolph Lundgren auditioned for Drago while Arnold Schwarzenegger among others were considered for Drago. Stallone was impressed with pictures Dolph Lundgren sent him and had him audition and made Lundgren gain weight and muscle for the role. Stallone and Lundgren were filming fight scene when Stallone made him hit hard for real. Lundgren hit Stallone hard enough in the chest it knocked the wind out and later felt chest pains and was rushed to hospital and nearly died. Lundgren felt so bad as he was thought it over for him but once Stallone healed from his injury he gave Lundgren the iconic role of Drago. Your right Dolph Lundgren was signed to play Lt Colonel Podsky played by Steven Berkoff but Stallone realized he had Dolph signed to play Drago and the contract was paid off.

She was engaged to and married Stallone during the filming of this movie and the release. She also had an affair with Arnold Schwarzenegger before this movie. And married Mark Gastineau, very famous Defensive Lineman for the NY Jets afterwards. I thought she had a type but them she had a year long fling with Flava Flav of all people. Talk about total opposites body wise. LOL.

Hi Mom, i have watched your reactions before, going through the franchise again with you. Alot of this movies, you can see are based on muhammid ali, said to be the greatest of all time, basicly, his 2 fights with appolo, were really a Ali and joe Frazier he lost and won in the 15th, the clubber lang fight was acutaly the same as the george formeman, formeman (who doe the grill) was like clubber lang, ali stood on the ropes, teased him, took everyhting foreman had to give, and like rocky, kept whispering in his ear, is that all you got george, it was known as the rope a dope, like clubber and formeman, they go tired, and ali spun of the ropes in round 8 and dropped formeman. This take me to a comment you made in this movie,. Ali had no block, his always down, he had not real punch, his speed was Ali's key, as you saw in cluber lang making him miss, truth be known, ali had nothing as boxer, no defense, not knock out punch, just his speed wear you down, then hit you like a middle weight puncher, as you saw rocky do to clubber in the round he knocked him down in, But i love your growth and what you see in boxing over the franchise, warms my heart

I enjoy watching reaction videos from my favorite movie series and actors and I have to say you did a great job 👍. Emotionally it is correct to say that Drago killed Apollo but objectively he died as a result of the fight. That's a fighter's personal risk I also found the scene with the car ride, presenting the thoughts as a montage, well solved and realistic. I find the film particularly impressive when seen in the context of the time. I'm excited and looking forward to the next videos. Greetings from Germany

Apollo was just cocky and took Rocky lightly. The 2nd, he was cheessed about the hate mail but Rocky still admired him. Now, the 3rd movie Clubber Lang was the 1st villain in the series, IMO. Still, your Rocky journey is coming to a close soon. You MUST finish the set. As mentioned before in the comments, 5 is the least favorite but it's still very good and necessary and 6 to close before the Creed set. I hope you enjoyed the set as much as we enjoyed watching you react to these classics

great reaction ! : ) definitely keep going and watch Rocky V and Rocky Balboa ( Rocky VI) and then go on to Creed and Creed II ( they are both great) and Creed III is coming out in movie theaters in March, 2023......also when you where talking about being a mom and liking the Rocky movies...that brought back great memories of my mom to me...she really liked the Rocky movies, and one thing she would do even into her 70s (!)... Id put my fists up and then she would put up her fists with a very straight face, and I would hit them, and then after a short pause she would either say - 'You Will Lose.' , or 'I Must Break You.' ( two of Ivan Drago's few lines in Rocky IV ) - D
