Paul stop the dreams and think if you were to lose your pension while living in the Philippines you would be treated like shit, the only reason you think you are liked is because of your pension and how much they will get off you, they will sell their daughter to you just to get what they want, remember in their eyes you are their own personal ATM machine, I have lived in the Philippines for 20 odd years. I hear every word you are saying Paul...I've spent the last couple years preparing for my retirement in 2023, by getting rid of a bunch of "stuff" in my garage, as well as mentally getting rid of all but a couple big suitcasses of clothes, and a couple balakbayan boxes of supplies I'll send to myself when the time comes. The rest of it will go to the kids, Goodwill, or the dump...I dont need it anymore. Watching videos like these is what has me on what I believe is the right path to retirement / expat happiness...Salamat

I was there at that plateau if you will in 1995 when I had custody of my son and we stood outside of our new home in Antioch/Nashville Tennessee... yes I can empathize... especially being in the music business and seeing Artist' homes. However, just material items that are long gone and forgotten... My kids I don't hardly hear from them anymore.. of course unless they need something.. lol. Sold my Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, sold all my tools, sold all my shop equipment, sold my "pride and joy" 1978 Black Knight SS El Camino (I know you can appreciate that car).. sold my 1964 Pontiac GTO project car, signed over quick deed to my soon to be ex-wife and re-homed my dog to my friends in Virginia and now I'm packing my Balikbayan boxes preparing to relocated to Cebu Philippines.. @jeffbradburn38003 жыл бұрын
@@garrylafferty100 never said anything about living without it (Money). Just stating buying useless stuff doesn't equate to happiness. Problem with a lot of western culture is we buy more than what we actually need. It's easily possible to work earn good money and save for an early retirement. A lot of people especially millennials, are realizing the "American dream" is a bunch of BS. We are inundated with ads, friends, family and co-workers about stuff they bought or the next new gadget but what that stuff doesn't buy us is our own time or freedom. Basically making us slaves to our own stuff. My priorities have changed over time and realize I don't want to work until I'm 62 or retirement age, how much time will I have left to enjoy my own free time. Learn to pay yourself first, I've maxed out my retirement contributions and will fund my own retirement so I don't have to be in this rat race forever.

Loving your channel Paul, this once a week checking in by you has to stop! LOL , seriously I enjoy your channel and your perspective, both of us being the same age I really relate with you. I wholeheartedly agree about the stuff, all said that’s all it is, going through the BLACK Forest as I had a few years ago I quickly realized just how unimportant things were. We suffered a total loss to the fire. 6 months later I rebuilt and filled the new house with stuff and seriously I can take it or leave it, the wife likes stuff but me, the less I have to worry about the better I feel. Today, a few years later I sold the custom home and most furnishings and moved to a more politically agreeable state to my liking and were loving it, in short, life is too short to worry about stuff. We now own a beautiful home but were 100% debt free and a nice savings account. All that being said it’s more for the wife, I could seriously be just as happy in a single wide mobile home. It’s just stuff. Losing my son to suicide and losing a home to a fire, well, I try to pick up the pieces and continue on. I’d happily give what I have away for what is important, I think you know what that is without me saying it. I’m rambling on sorry, in short you help me get through the day’s, thank you Paul.

I fully understand. I’ve always had to have the the most expensive, most feature rich toys. I started getting over that last year when I started thinning out in preparation for retiring there, but I ran into a problem. What about my tools? I have way more than I need, but where do you draw the line? I also have “hobbies”. I’m a drummer, I listen to high end audio, I’m into learning electronics. Btw- I purchased my first house for 1 reason… so I could practice my drums and play my stereo loud.
@gibblespascack14183 жыл бұрын
Tools yes. When I needed to rebuild my first repo house, I acquired a lot of tools. Those tools served me well for several more houses. The tools rarely break, so now they are still here 20+ years later. So they are in the basement of this house. Will I buy another destroyed home and rebuild it, probably not, but I still have the tools just in case. Its similar for my DJ equipment, Peavey CS800, underpowered by today's standards but it wont break either and I have not needed to do a show in 8 years. Even a minimalist will accumulate quality items over 30-40 years.

I like this kind of videos. Going a bit deeper than others. Make you think. And it connects. I live 6 years continously in the Philippines and it changes you. Before while I was working I could afford a lot of things. Mostly straight from the monthly salary. New iPhone? No problem. Etc. Now I live a good life but no more the impulsive $1000 buys just like that. And it doesnt matter me anymore. Although I am still in this transition. When going to a resort I can enjoy a 1* place sleeping on the floor in a bamboo kubo but also enjoy once and awhile the 3 or 4 start "western" resort for a special meal and or craft beer. But as far as material things now a Chinese brand maybe good enough. Although I am still hooked to the Apple environment. But more conscious. And mainly iPhone only. Even though life changed. Better to spend a day on the beach for nothing than to shop around the internet for that next buy.
