Even back then, in the dark ages, my family thought we were just not interested. No, it was a matter of keeping ourselves out of situations where our self control might fail, and using the self control God developed in us. And how do I know he's been faithful? Just remember this one thing: whenever someone argues for polyamory based on how it is selfless to let your partner have other sexual partners, what they are really saying is that they want to have other sexual partners. It's the classic selfishness two-step: I will act like I really want love (so-called) for someone else when what I really want is for them to do this for me.

@@veronicaanaConsent. That's what the problem is. If your partner wanted to practice BDSM and wanted you to be their Sub in a physical humiliation role and you don't enjoy that, should you be required to stay in a relationship with that person and entertain their desires? More accurately, imagine if you were in a relationship and your partner suddenly started putting white supremacist flags all over your shared living space and shamed you for not paying for their Uber ride to the rallies and everyone called you a bigot and a dictator for not supporting them, then when you finally leave the relationship, they file a lawsuit against you and take 30% of your yearly income for the next 14 years with no lawyer willing to defend your position for less than $2million.

@@veronicaana 1. Because they are cloaking selfishness in the guise of selflessness. Also, see point two below, as being poly introduces a number of risks that monogamy, if properly applied, does not. The person pursuing polyamory is willing to open up all partners involved to those risks; the monogamous person is unwilling to do so and will curtail their own desires to that end. 2. Multiple sexual partners is not 'good' for your body as everyone knows. It brings a.) emotional trauma, b.) massive risk of STDs, c.) confusion in the realm of procreation, d.) sets up all partners involved for jealousy, instability. 3. Monogamy is the opposite of selfishness. It is a binding of yourself to another and that person to you. It is entered into voluntarily, and if carried through without infidelity and with virtue (a big 'if' granted), answers all four issues raised above in point two.
@K0HAKU_97 Жыл бұрын
My husband and I only ever dated each other, then immediately married as soon as we graduated high school and were both 18. We knew after the first year of dating that we wanted to continue being together, so we did. We were in a committed relationship for three years before getting married, and before that we were best friends for two years. We made sure to talk about our personal values, what we want out of life, and what we want out of our partners for life. We always made sure to communicate our honest thoughts and feelings to each other, positive and negative, and we learned to fully trust one another. If you keep proper communication, things like jealousy become an impossible thing. Even if one of us sees someone that is objectively more attractive than our partner, we know we’ve built a relationship of love and trust that the other wouldn’t just throw away for a prettier face. And yes we were both virgins till marriage, which probably helped greatly to not unconsciously compare each other to previous partners, since there are none. TLDR: Take plenty of time to get to know their personalities, morality, and likes/dislikes BEFORE dating. You’re a whole lot less likely to end up with an a-hole if you do.

I told him that, I would want to marry my dream girl, who will fill the holes in my heart with love. If that happens, I would just marry that girl only, because I am fully satisfied, and there will be no need to have any romantic relationship outside of marriage. My classmate was a talkative guy, but he suddenly stop talking and let that sink in. Many years later, he is happily married to his dream girl that truly filled his heart with love, made him a less Quirky person that goes along with others, and have zero cheating outside his marriage.🎉🎉🎉 I am happy that he didn’t chose the path of his father’s.

The problem with non monogamy is that every partner has different needs in a sexual interaction. Those needs are incredibly diverse and may even change between interactions or partners. So you pretty much get the macdonalds version of sex. Fast, easy, cheap and tailored to the lowest common denominator. A healthy monogamous relationship may contain the same basic ingredients but is refined through communication and trust. That turns the beef, bread, tomato and other lesser ingredients for some cheap unhealthy fast solution into a Michelin star worthy experience that satisfies all aspects of the appetite. Who wants to settle for a different burger flipper every time when they can have their own personal Gordon Ramsay. Ultimately the most important ingredient is communication and why should I bother learning what you like if I'm only going to have to deal with you until I'm satisfied and your satisfaction is none of my concern.
@burgeryoufoundbehindthegrill Жыл бұрын
Seriously. If people have chemistry, they have chemistry. You can get a glimpse of what someone is physically like in many ways outside of sex. Kissing, dancing, or just generally playing around. It's not complicated.

The term "polyamory" was created in the 90s by a woman who didn't want to keep being viewed by her peers as a s_ut. Same thing for "ethical non-monogamy", which derived from a book called "The Ethical S_ut". If you have to add "ethical" to anything, it's because you know it isn't and you don't want to be judged or anyone to hurt your feelings by calling it out.

As a moderator of the monogamy subreddit, I've been dealing with vapid this shit for years. Being committed to someone is portrayed as a restriction on freedom, rather than discovering something more meaningful that raw carnality. 'Insecurity' is an affect laden synonym for *not wanting something*, so if you aren't interest in an open relationship you must be insecure according those who want an open relationship. What is troubling is that this argument is also applies to any other sexual act where if you aren't comfortable, they accuse you of being insecure, controlling, or 'brainwashed by the patriarchy' in order to onboard you into whatever act they have designs on. Everything is reduced to jealousy because that makes it easier to hand wave away the positive motivations for monogamy; focus, commitment, depth etc. Attachment is pathologized as a weakness, not because it's an error or some flaw, but becasue it gets in the way of sexual gratification. That's all that is. We are social beings, not islands unto ourselves. The divorce rate argument is nonsense. Being divorced doesn't mean that the number of people involved was the cause of the divorce. Having divergent life goals, substance use, mental health issues, etc have nothing to do with monogamy. Adding more people will not fix those issues, ergo being divorced does not mean sleeping with a bunch of people will make your relationship[p more stable or fulfilling. And funny how "natural" is only what is carnal and animistic. Anything coming from the other 3lbs of grey matter *not* devoted to reproduction is arbitrarily reduced to the realm of "unnatural", while they simultaneously try and navigate the most convoluted romantic lifestyle ever known to humanity. It's reductive and sickening. I could go on..... You're right, Brett, this is all projection and avoidance. The loudest advocated of non-monogamy are those who were burned by someone with the same values they now promote. But what is just as insidious is these damaged people believe that monogamy is malleable, therefor it's okay to lie, coerce, and gaslight a reluctant partner into non-monogamy. this idiotic ideology doesn't spread without people getting burned, and when your partner bombs you with an open relationship demand, and proceeds to tell you that the reason you don't want it is jealousy and if you only subscribe to the non-mono ethos then they wont feel saddened anymore, that is exactly how this propagates. It is, in effect, a misery cult, with lust and gratification being the remedy to the very mindless pursuit of physical pleasure that created the damage in the first place. It's all weasel arguments and semantic slight of hand designed to reduce interactions to things we consume and discard becasue that's all they know. it's predatory and empty. It's cancerous.

Yet, if you look at it, it's countries where polygamy is legal where women most lack rights and equality. I am from Spain recently divorced and I am angry, (mostly with myself) but I don’t even think on blaming monogamy…. People are so alone and so desperate they blame anything I am sorry for them…

The problem Mr. "Ethical Non-Monogamy" is having is not with others being jealous of him, or others policing him in a relationship. He doesn't want anyone else to police him so he can do whatever he wants to. He is aspiring to a situation where someone has no expectations of him so he can basically do whatever he wants, sleep with whomever he wants, foolishly assuming there will be no consequences to this sort of behavior.

Doesn’t sound very ethical does it!?

My brother got roped into this dystopian ideal. She is living it while he is being destroyed...it's horrible to see honestly....

Wow, didn't realize that my 15 yr long relationship was a kink & it being impossible to imagine not having my other 1/2 there was such a rebel move... still planning to keep this up tho because I'm happy & no one can prove it isn't the best thing for me. I have a feeling that all these people saying how Monogamy is bad are gonna change their tune the moment they find "the One" if they ever do 'cause that mindset isn't a good start.

This gives off huge "everyone belongs to everyone els" vibes. One of the main plot points in 'Brave New World's anti-utopia is that monogamy, traditionalism, and especially marriage is a huge taboo.

one saying I have is "People are like works of art. You enjoy viewing them. Just because you have a work of art at home, doesn't suddenly mean that all other works are ugly and you shouldn't look at them". a solid relationship is founded in trust. you should be able to trust your partner isn't going to be jumping around with others and being inappropriate with them. you lose the trust, you're more than likely going to lose the relationship

I can't imagine looking at other men when I am in a relationship. If my future husband said he liked looking at other women because they're works of art, I'd know he is not the man I will marry.

@pax3901 everyone has their own "rules" for relationships. I'd be okay with my gf/wife looking. Acting on it and flirting is where issues start
