One of the reasons I love MH products so much is the passion and love for the hobby is so evident in how they design their products. They make and sell the products and tools they want to use themselves. I'm really excited to see what they do next. (Hint, I'd love to see a portable paint light that attaches to the new Go Bag!)

I would be over the moon to have a ProAcryl 'Military' line like Jason was talking about. There's a handful of VMH paints that I just can't get rid of entirely yet, because they are so versatile for my paint style and not having to mix is so key for me. The 4 that come to mind off the top of my head are German Field Grey, German Black Brown, German Camo Beige & English Uniform. That said, I own every ProAcryl base paint and Jon/Vince's packs. I use them almost exclusively with few exceptions.

As a ceramic and plastic palette user I'm feeling so goddamn empowered right now. I've done wet palettes and it is very nice sometimes, mostly with thicker paints that need to be thinned considerably anyway, but with Pro Acryl I just don't need it. It's even a detriment to some of their colors like some of the greys that work great out the bottle with a touch of water on the brush but they start to break down if you add too much water instead of medium to thin.

Honestly, I knew the Monument people were pretty cool, but this is pretty eye opening. I'm a lot more likely to continue using them despite liking other brands a ton as well. If Monument made military colors in a separate line I would definitely buy them. Also, I've been struggling like crazy with the wet palette to the point that it causes me to not paint. I'm about to buy a glass palette instead

Yes, my dude, I gave up on using wet palettes for the exact same reasons. They're an extra chore that takes time away from painting. I prefer white tiles, they wipe clean and are great to gauge tints and blends etc. and they cost 50 cents if I need a fresh one

Great episode guys. Very fun. I use both a wet pallet and dry pallet. The wet pallet has been a game changer for the craft pains I still use. They are so thick, a wet pallet keeps them usable for weeks and actually helps thin them down. Miniature paints are a different story though. After a few hours on a wet pallet, they get too wet and are either too thin to use, or start to separate.

@Thornbeard
@Thornbeard 9 ай бұрын
It is Creature Caster, initially Pro Acryl was sold by Creature Caster. Monument had a ton of problems with Creature Caster fucking up orders and doing shit all costumer service. In the end I think it was a win win for both companies to go their separate ways. For Jason though I can understand not wanting to talk about them since they almost torpedoed his business before it even got off the ground. Creature Caster I think learned that they needed to be far more organized and be serious about the business they were in.

I tried and failed hard using a wet palette. I follow Dr Faust and he uses a cold palette. Basically just a 6"x6" white ceramic tile on an ice pack. It keeps the paint just moist enough to get me through a couple of hours of mini painting and the dried paint washes off super easy with warm water.

Great opportunity to paint a mini only in ProAcryl today. Got one question, is there a trick for using ProAcryl on rattlecan primer? Have been adding golden medium, but it still doesn’t wanna adhere to it. (no issues with Vallejo and AP) Love ProAcryl for the gorgeous hues, (got base set, transparent, John and Vince) would like to get more, but I‘m often too lazy to zenithal prime with my airbrush.
@MonumentHobbies

Rattle can primers in the winter months especially, can have mixing issues. If it comes out anything other than true matte finish, then our paints may seem to pool a bit on the first layer. No biggie, just do a light coat for the base, let it dry, then go for coverage on the second pass. Our paints have a longer open time and don't like "waxy" surfaces that some more satin primers give.

It's interesting hearing peoples various reasons for enjoying a game. Thinking specifically of Scott's comment on Godtear (a game I enjoy quite a lot), I'm always there for the game first. Yes, theme and setting are extremely important (I love Fantasy, SciFi, Post Apoc, Cyber Punk, etc. and won't go near a true historical setting), but I don't care about the narrative or the story of the game (the why behind the conflict). I think it's why I struggle to really get into true minis games (like WarCry or RelicBlade for example). I do enjoy them both, but will almost always opt for a skirmish board game as they have a tighter more tactical gameplay experience (imo of course, lol). A narrative is fun to have and a big bonus, especially in a cooperative experience, but isn't something i really care about in the competitive games I play.

Our paints don't need anywhere near as much water to thin. If you mean when putting over spray can primer, and seeing the paint pulling into droplets, it's due to the primer not being mixed properly. Our paints react quicker to waxy surfaces due to the longer dry time. A second coat will start covering great though, just need to defeat the surface issues on the prime coat. After that, no prob at all!

1:43:00 Yeah. For someone making paint he doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. Paste-based paint? Paint stays exactly like it is in the bottle on a dry palette. I'm all for people having a preference and what works for them. I dislike when they try to justify it with something other than just saying that it works for their workflow.

@MonumentHobbies 9 ай бұрын
You missed the point of the statement. Tube acrylics (what I refer to as paste acrylics) need to be thinned to get to the consistency you want for painting smaller 3D details. That's the whole reason our industry uses liquid acrylics to get you past that point right out of the bottle. Ours are just a further step there. Damp brush + paint = what you need. No need to fuss about on the palette like some others. You leave the paint on the palette exactly as it came out of the bottle like you say, which gives you much better capability than if it's being thinned constantly due to over hidration on a wet palette or if you thin it directly on the palette by other means.
@TylerProvick
@TylerProvick 9 ай бұрын
@@MonumentHobbies the same principle that keeps a blob of paint from drying out too fast on a hard palette keeps it from absorbing water too fast on a wet palette. It's fine to prefer hard palettes. When I was using lots of different paints I preferred palettes with paint wells. I'd never tell someone that their paints aren't suited or they're doing it wrong.
