Hi, nice and tidy job. Some people don't know how many hours takes to do a good painting work like this so they think that painters are charging too much money. Del'sTip : Always use the bottom sheet as it has elastic and fits better to the engine. Good morning from Greece . Love to see your work. For all of them who are watching you and want to put carbon on swingarm or frame.They can very easy cut a piece of 3M film and stike it first and above of that the carbon with the glue. Then the unistall will be very easy without the mess from the glue..................Sorry for my English

You're absolutely right my friend, wish they'd done that, as the last owner just seemed to use bathroom silicone, which was impossible to get off without damaging the paint !

Hello Del, I hope you guy's are doing well right now. I doubt you remember me talking about it a while ago, but I'm finally refurbishing my swingarm and came back to get an idea on how to use the etch primer with the tough black (I've used the black before on my old helmet 😎). A little more paint and rust to remove and I'll be ready to go.
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, just as a heads up, am sure you know that etch primer is only really for bare metal, if there's any existing paint on the metal, then it can react with the etch primer and cause problems and also, of course, am sure I've said before that Tough Black doesn't actually need a primer, as long as you use a 'tack' coat and the metal is sterile and clean... good luck with it, hope it goes well, keep safe mate, D&Px
@HalfdeadRider4 жыл бұрын
@@Moonfleet41 Cheers Del, thanks for the heads up. I am taking it back to bare metal as best I can so I'll keep my fingers crossed that I've done a good enough job on that, still a bit of prep to do before I set up for painting.

Nice work, interesting how much dirt and crud accumulates in the areas which people don't usually see. Mine has the exact same covers on the frame which I put on from my old ZX7R, which had them on to cover some paint damage. I also done the same on a 1990 FZR which I bought as a project, I painted the frame with the engine still in and that turned out nice. Reason being it was bought super cheap and it wouldn't be noticeable so seemed excessive. Looking ace!

@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi James, the average watch time for youtube videos is just 6 minutes would you believe, so we try to strike a balance, and hope it works.. and the trouble with fitting a coil from the front is you then end up drilling out the front part of the hole which is 8mm, and will end up 9mm, making the bolt loose in its hole, not a big drama, but its better to get it right..

If the chain de-greaser is oil based, which I'm assuming it probably is, that will affect the paint you're about to spray over it surely?

Moonfleet41 I more ment for getting rid of build up before cleaning with thinners as it clears it quicker. I'm not sure if it's oil based as it drys non greasy but I usually go over with surface cleaner or thinners before paint to be safe

Hey Del, Since you're reassessing some of the original designs, and seem to listen to viewer feedback, I thought I'd weigh in. Like the front fairing as a concept, and view it as the inspiration of the project, of which everything else comes from. Wish you didn't need to add the second light, but understand you where required to. Love the current belly pan; it's my favorite piece. Don't change it. Glad you're redoing the tank, never looked right to me. It was too dramatic. Don't know what you're planning for it, but keep it simple and understated. Glad you removed the pipe insulation from the forks, it looked cheap. Like the tail, although you may be right about it being out of proportion - keep it or shrink it, whatever you feel is best. Undertail is fine. In a perfect world the bolts wouldn't be as visible, but ultimately undertail should remain understated and shouldn't draw the eye from the rest of the bike. Front fender is my biggest beef, and undermines the overall design, IMHO. I get you were trying to tie the design together by adding the vents, but I think it ruins the visual balance. Keep the front fender sleek and understated. It looks like a painter that doesn't know when a masterpiece is finished, and unnecessarily keeps adding things that distract from the subject. Just my opinion. Regardless of what you decide to do, I hope it's helpful feedback.

Hey Delboy's garidge been following your videos for good while. Love content and how you take your time to thoroughly explain things to us novice mechanics trying to learn a 1/3 of the library of knowledge you possess. My name is Tyrone. I own a P2 model 1997 Zx7r Kawasaki Ninja 750 bike like your street fighter version. I have stripped bike down completely & hand sanded mostly with minimal use of orbital sanding tools. I want to paint frame and swing arm gloss black..an fairings like green color code 617...with accents of orange but I think the ugh gave me a orange that isn't a gloss orange as is my black paint. The lime green/orange accents are gonna be small bits pieces etc. My paint is for use with spray gun.. I saw one video of yours that you used black on swing arm. I loved how that came out and want to get the rattle cans version of black that you used...( oh by the way my bike is in kitchen ), I will have to re clean frame and swing arm then let fully dry apply two full light coats completely of adhesion promoter onto the aluminum. Then following it up with my etching primer same process in terms of coats. Then I can hopefully use your method to paint it done...get it out side start process of reassembly.

Hi there... sounds like a cool project, and should look really good.. The rattle can paint i used for my Kawasaki frame was "Simoniz Tough Paint", (Satin Black).. i buy them about 12 at a time and it save a bit of money over buying them one at a time... you'll need a few for your frame thats for sure. Good luck with it.. Del.

@@Moonfleet41 okay can I get company you ordered them from ? And approx., how many rattle cans will I need to do the job..an I wanna send you photo's of my progress thus far. How could I do that ? I bought 1 quart of gloss black house paint.. with 1 quart of semi gloss orange house paint..reason being : #1 covid and my local auto body shop was not allowing ppl in shop an I'm not leaving my property at door to be taken..my area it's in the hood. #2 I decided to buy house paint after watching numerous videos of ppl doing this application & giving it's review a solid stamp of approval to be used...So I got the paint.. Now the body shop supply business is open so I was going to get another 1 quart of lime green to go with half of initial quart of lime green I had from prior bike I had an used that on..at $500 for doing tank and all the Zx7r fairings with mirrors and ram duct covers..Del send me an email brotha I wanna send you photo of my previous Zx7r that was vandalized and photos of the project I'm currently working on. My email address is: arlowepare1973@yahoo.com okay your going to love it man..I felt like crying when insurance told me they were just going to total it out..rather then cut check to have my bike repaired..I named her secretariat that's how sleepy fast my 750 bike was.. an at NYST NEW YORK SAFETY TRACK it held it's own on track day & nothing modified all stock no bs it kept up with lot of better riders an it was my very 1st track day event ever..an I been riding since 2014.

Great videos as ever; so far, thanks to you I have rebuilt the front caliper on my battered but beloved Honda NTV 650 tractor come motorcycle...as well as replace forkseals. All a lot less scary having watched your videos. Next it's painting wheels and then new wheel bearings, and now I may have a go at painting the frame too. So, my question, is won't there be a surface difference between bare metal and painted sections of the frame - some is rubbed down, some isn't. Or is that rubbed out and smoothed after the priming? Also, please can you elaborate on what the "painting fleece" is that removed the paint on the drill? And then, why didn't you do it 'everywhere' to remove all the paint? Also, is that just a normal green scourer? Thank you!
@Moonfleet416 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, i chose not to rub all the paint off the frame, no need if its sound and secure.. as long as you feather out the edge it won't show under the new paint.. if you're worried use some primer and then rub that down, but be careful not to go through it, or you'll have the same issues again... the paint removing fleece is the softest item i could find to cut the silicone off without damaging the sift thin alloy frame... its less aggressive than sanding discs and if you;re gentle, won't cut into the metal.. and yes mate.. thats a regular green scotch bright... Good luck with yours mate.. hope it works out for you.. Del ..

I did my bike frame in a similar way, engine in.... even managed to do the engine in the same fashion (masking the frame) i used Hammerite as I always have done but it doesn’t seem as good as it used to. Hi Paul, good to hear you did the same, i think its pretty common, and no, there arent many paints that are resistant to chemicals, not petrol anyway, and thats the main thing you're likely to spill on your bike aye... i must say i have used this stuff for a few years now and always found it to be good, i think with hammerite it needs to be fully cured before its properties are realised, and that means about 3 months from what i hear..!

But the important question is Del, is that streetfighter your dream bike? That you look over your shoulder at and sigh at. That you daydream about riding. Or is it now a perseverence and satisfaction thing, about completing a project because it would be a waste of the time and energy so far? I'm fortunate to have just bought my dream bike (literally yesterday). I did comment a while ago with the plans to Bigccracing my zx12r. Nope. All change... A Cagiva Mito with an RD350 engine and RS250 front end. But I picked it up in Letchworth and live right up by Newcastle on tyne. I'm 6ft2, and this bike cripples me. It drinks oil and fuel faster than my tuned RX8. It has a racebike dash with complicated start up and running, but is worth every agony. Because ever since my Planet 125 13 years ago, I've dreamed of a 350 swap. I love two strokes, Id love a 500, but they are unobtainium for mere mortals like me now. This bike is my NSR500. Its my Fogarty 916. Its my H2r. I hope your streetfighter is all that to you, and if it isn't, if its a showcase and a practice run, I hope its the doorway to whatever is your Mito 350. Jacko

You assume correctly Tim, he is trying to destroy not only our reputation, but other reputations on youtube too, and also trying to destroy 7 years hard work we have done trying to help and inspire our fellow riders.
