I've got to that age where the first thing I do when I buy a 2nd hand bike is put a stock exhaust back on it! My son is constantly at me about the how the exhaust on my r1 looks like a lamp post but I like the standard noise and the funny thing was the after market one that was on it was heavier. The other thing is I think (maybe misguided) is that you can go faster with a stock exhaust without attracting any attention, other people think you're going too fast when they hear a loud pipe even if you're not going full pelt. Good 'how to' video though.

Hi Delboy - I went ahead and ordered the exhaust and followed your vid when installing. I’m 99% there but I’ve run into two issues - 1) my rear brake lever fouls the exhaust 2) My springs seem a lot looser than yours. Did you need to make any adjustments to solve these issues?
@Moonfleet413 жыл бұрын
@@itsmemarkt Hi Mark, firstly congratulations on taking the plunge!... let's sort out those two small issues... your brake lever is close to the exhaust, but it shouldn't foul it, so it may need some adjustment to just shift it a little inwards so it clears... I covered everything in my video, but if it's possible there may be an anomaly with the exhaust, you could contact George at TEC who may have come across that problem and know how to advise you........ but am sure it's just a case of loosening off the headers and getting everything wriggles in to place, remember like I said in the video, it's important to get that link pipe under the engine installed all the way in as far as it can go, otherwise that could be why your right hand pipe is sticking out a little............ as far as the springs go, I had a couple like that, and all you need to do is 'GENTLY' bend the loops that are welded to the pipe away from each other a little to widen the gap... I moved mine maybe 5mm each and the spring was taught.... George covers this in his video as well! Hope that helps, let us know how you get on!

That's a cool trick Ken, and I can see the common sense in that, fortunately Triumph have thought this one through, they know it's a totally inaccessible nut, but they give you just enough room to put a spanner on it and they make it a lock nut, so when you undo it, you can take it right to the end of the bolt and it will stay there... and thanks again for the glue trick, noted for the future!

@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Not at all mate, pointless as there's no tuning available on this particular model, the ECU is locked, however, the exhaust was designed around the parameters of this bike, and it's ECU will re-adjust with a 10min set up run and fuel just fine... it was designed that way. You can add a fuel booster plug, which we will be doing and that gives a little richer mixture on pull away and acceleration... but that's not necessary for it to run safely, that's just an improvement if you want it!

@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
The X pipe is to join the headers before it splits out in to two silencers, this system has one silencer, so it joins together and stays joined together and with these bikes, the ECU will 'learn' the new exhaust, just idle the motor for 10mins at least without touching the throttle and it will re-set itself.

Excellent video with some great tips. I'd fit one to my Street Twin, if I could figure out how to get the frame rail loose with no centre stand fitted. Can't put it on the side stand, that's attached to the rail. Seems a bit daft to spend 100 quid on one just to use to fit the exhaust and then take it off again. Any ideas?
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, totally agree, why would you buy a main stand for one job... but how about this option, it's a set of paddock stand bobbins that slip through the centre of your rear axle, then you can just pop a paddock stand under the rear and get it up nice and safe... if you don't have a paddock stand, then maybe consider it as an investment, it's perfect for chain adjustment and lubrication and even winter storage... www.tecbikeparts.com/product/street-twin-street-cup-street-scrambler-paddock-stand-bobbins-axle-adapter-bobbins-kit/

@@Moonfleet41 That was exactly my question. I figured that on my T120, I need to put it on the center stand to complete the removal of the converter, and then back to the side stand after everything is tied up and then proceed with the removal of the center stand... Makes sense?

Nice that sounds great mate! Gotta love TEC for the build quality to a price point. Any issues with lack of back pressure running these baffles out? I've done a decat on my Bobber with Tridents and they don't recommend losing the baffles as there's only so much the ECU can adjust for (they are very free flowing though). To be honest my ears were bleeding without baffles so I've left them in , though I did cut them down by half. 😉 I love your care and attention to the standard parts as well , if only all mechanics showed as much love. 👍
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, great to hear from you, and yes indeed, it's so important to carefully preserve factory parts, they're all now wrapped in cloth and poly peanuts and tucked away in the loft for posterity, they're practically brand new, so some day, they'll have value to someone! With the baffle, I'm going half and half, running a Thruxton baffle, which is like the I showed, except cut down to 1" long and a little bigger bore, you can buy them from TEC and they recommend them too, as like you say, it gives that optimum back pressure, but still nice and open and comfortably louder, not bellowing and hollow!

How do you know that the ECU will do a good enough job with the fuelling Del? Are you not concerned about the bike running lean? I've been told that a remap/tune is always needed when a full system is installed, especially a decat one, just wondering
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's fine, because the system was designed around the ECU, not the other way round... effectively developed within the parameters of the ECU's range and if it ran lean, you'd see if straight away as the top corner of the header pipes would turn blue & purple, and as you saw, they simply went slightly yellow straw colour so that's nice and cool. Also, the removal of the cat cools down the entire system and prevents the significant heat soak from having a red hot cat right underneath your sump.

Hi Del. Definitely a transformation, and an amazing diet! And another cracking video from yourself and Penny P! A few quick questions, if you don't mind educating the dumb... 1. Does it not need exhaust sealant / silicone on the joints? 2. Will it pass an MOT with the cat removed? 3. Will the engine management light come on with no cat fitted? Thanks, and all the best!
@Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, good to hear from you buddy.. hope life is good and you're keeping safe and well. OK, No exhaust sealant needed, the slip joint design, if you look close, has all the pipes fitting "Male into Female" as it goes backwards.. so the "male" pipe in any joint is always closest to the engine, and therefore hotter...so will expand more inside the 'Female" pipe and seal.. they're snug fitting in the first place too with a long overlap... so no, they don't leak once warmed up.. With the Cat, there is currently no emissions test for bikes so no bother with MOT.. and no, the engine warning light won't come up, just fire it up and idle the engine for at least 10 minutes to let the system reset itself.. take care buddy and keep in touch. D&Pxx

It would be pretty cool to ceracote the system, or you can alternatively mirror polish it, it is top quality stainless. They are supplied in a brush satin finish, which is great because that keeps the cost down and you can choose if you want to spend the extra money for a ceramic coating or polishing.
@andyhunter23244 жыл бұрын

@@andyhunter2324 Ha ha, sounds a bit like that welding snobbery i spoke of last week... @Moonfleet414 жыл бұрын
I presume you mean centre stand Nick, but you don't have to remove it at all, that's just a choice to capitalise on the weight saving, it's perfectly ok to run the main stand if you wish, in fact, TEC will provide free of charge a striker plate in the kit to act as a stop for the stand, which you'll need having removed the left pipe which it used to strike against... it will look a little odd with the big stand hook sticking out in the absence of the pipe, but it still functions perfectly normally!

Hi Robert, most welcome Sir, I do the conversion for me too, because being born in the 60's we were imperial for the first 10yrs of my life and it sticks, as you probably know we both have both systems here, we drive in mph, cars are still sold in miles per gallon, yet we buy litres, so we get used to converting! But I think wherever you're from, nobody can deny that 28lbs is a lot of weight, like a medium size dog, 2 stone!
