I love this movie, Cannot watch it enough. Vincent Gardenia was excellently cast as were all the main characters in this movie. "Johnnie Camarari. He 's a big baby!! He did a few episodes on LA Law where he plays Roxanne and is slowly slipping into dementia. I loved when he thought he was Ralph Cramden on the Honeymooners. Anyway, excellent in both.

Loretta has characteristics of both parents. It’s evident in the screenplay, the acting and the direction. Most films don’t do this, yet it’s a fundamental of families. Brilliant!

"Everything is temporary, that don't excuse nothing!" A line that is sooo funny and true at the same time!! Her dad's right; why didn't Johnny have a proper ring ready to go? A clever indication that he's not the right man for Loretta. Ronny's proposal later is on the spot, so he's got an excuse, but Johnny doesn't.

This is my all-time favorite movie. My husband and I went to see when it was first released and loved it so much that we returned to the movie theater the following day to see it again. Later I bought the video cassette and whenever I was feeling low about something I would put it on and get myself back on the track. Even now, many years later I get great enjoyment out of viewing this scene of that or actually sitting through all of it yet again. It is charming, wise and oh so human.

I'm not from Brooklyn Heights, not from NY, not even from the States, and my background is friggin' Hungarian of all things. But I grew up in Argentina, where we may _speak_ Spanish but our body language is 99% Italian. Cher's hand/eyebrow/chin gesture* at 1:13 simply floors me..., it's the liquid limb flow of every woman I've ever loved. This movie is a treasure chest. (*Vincent Gardenia's 0:22 moment is nothing short of genius either).
@VengefulPurity5 жыл бұрын
It's awesome you love this. :) You know what's awesome bout that part at 1:13, they did this scene so many times, drinking real champagne, and Cher said in this chosen scene she was half drunk. Picking at the wrapper of the bottle, the hand wave, they loved it so much they decided to put it in the movie because it worked so well :D

It's something very Italian in our older generations of people... especially in the past, you were not supposed to wake up a person late at night or call members of the family by phone late in the evening, it was considered not polite, and the only time when you could dare to call them/wake them up was only to let them know that someone close to them or a close relative had just died. This was the only reason to disturb people very late. No other exceptions!
