Beautiful Barracuda! In 1984 on my 15th birthday my dad and I went and bought my first car. It was a gold 1969 Plymouth Barracuda fastback with a 318 2 barrel and an automatic transmission. It had been wrecked in the front end so we spent a year fixing it up so it was ready to drive when I was 16. Later when I started college we rebuilt the engine and had the entire car painted. We rebuilt the 318 to about 300hp with a four barrel and added frame ties and an 8 3/4 rear end with 355 gears. I ended up selling the car about 22 years ago and I really wish I would have kept it. I love A body Mopars.

Sweet car . I’m an old man (68) . But when I turned 16 my sweet stepdad, to my surprise bought me a 1969 Barracuda fastback . It was a metallic green with two hood scoops like you had mentioned, with the black hood stripes . Well here’s the kicker, that car had dang old 225 six cylinder with 3 speed manual on the column, not a muscle car at all, but it dam sure looked good . Ever since I’ve been a mopar man and I’ve always wanted to have a muscle car . I’ve been looking a lot lately so maybe I’ll pull the trigger . Nice job with the video and your friend has done a fantastic job, gorgeous car . Keep up the good work

One of the beautys of the 340 is it hp to weight . I had a 68 340S with 4spd . Loved the car after I put on one size up Michelin radial... They were run at 26lbs pressure in those days and appered to be underinflated so much so I had people give a shout about my flat tires. So much in automobiles has changed but the uncluttered automobile like the Barracuda fastback are no longer produced. It's not a refined vehicle like my Honda but then the windows down, air in your face experiance is lost.

Great car and beautiful color! You did a great job on the detail differences between gen1 and gen 2 the base brakes on these cars with 9 inch drums were just marginal... First thing I did to my A body is go to the big bolt pattern 4 1/2 on 5 with the bigger disc brakes and wheels. Using factory parts, makes a big difference in driving the car in traffic...and a modern radials makes a kickass driver.

I have a 67 and planning on the front discs for sure. I've read about using mustang 2 parts but haven't talked to anyone that's done it.

@@dirtyharry5419 a 67 dart? I like using factory parts when I can.....try Dr diff online they have good stuff, I like running the larger ball joint on a street car for more strength but if it's a drag car the smaller one is ok. There's a lot of kits out online to choose from.

@@moparnut6286 sorry it's a barracuda. I've read about using mustang 2 spindles etc in A and B body mopars. I believe it's a cheaper option than going with mopars big bolt disc setup brand new anyways. There's a mustang 2 sitting not far from me with a good front end. It's hard to find a used Mopar setup around here.

Back in the 1990s I had a chance to pickup a 1967 Barracuda for 300 dollars. It had a 273 that smoked like a freight train. It also needed a little body work , but for the most part it wasn't that bad. I've been kicking myself for letting that one slip by me. My cousin ended up buying it. It was a nice car when he got done with it. He put a 318 in it. Formula S also had a 383 option in the second generation Barracuda , but your right the 440 second generation Barracuda didn't come out until 1969. One thing you left out. In 1968 they put the 426 race Hemi in a few of them. It was a factory race car not meant for the street , and it was the King of Super Stock for many years. It had a special mounting block to offset the master cylinder to make room for the heads. The Dart got the same treatment in 1968. Another thing they put Barracuda badges on some of the E bodies that had 225 slant sixes, they are rare. I had two Plymouth Dusters at one time, I sold them several years ago. I've been collecting parts for some time now, but I can't find a body. I want another A body . Something with bat wings , wind wings what ever you want to call them . Duster didn't have them.

Beautiful car!!!! I gotta correct a minor misconception though, The Formula S actually begins at the 273 not 340. Many believe the S stands for sport but if I’m not mistaken it stands for Super being that all Formula S cars came with Super Commando motors. 273, 340 and 360 all had Super Commando options. Not sure of the 318 and obviously 383 and 440 are big blocks so they don’t live in the LA small block family.

Sorry this is not a 1967 formula S. No 340's in 1967, no 1967 formula s badging. 1968 hood and 1969 taillight panel. Still a nice car but far from what is a true 1967 Formula s. Trust me i own a REAL one.
@jflynn910
@jflynn910 Жыл бұрын
You are correct, this car was not born as a 1967 Formula S. As you point out the 340 was not available in 67. 273 and 383 were the only V8s available in 67. The front grills are 67 but the taillight panel isn't. No Formula S badging in the fenders. It wouldn't have a factory front sway bar and the other goodies that came with the "S" package. He does point that out in the video that it's not an original "S" car or the original engine so he's not trying to fool anyone.

If you’re going to attempt to speak with authority on a car, do more research first. Nothing wrong with saying you’re not sure, don’t know, need to check, etc. SO much wrong information here!
