I think the reason the death strikes were so effective was because you had 3 of them. On their own their missile isn’t particularly scary, but together 6D6 shots all focussed on one area gives the opponent a lot more to think about. You played them very well

This reminds me of the ah-ha moment I had playing FPS video games when I realized that tactical grenades aren't best used for where an enemy is, they are best used for where you don't want them to be: to force movement or narrow their options.

I had the opposite lesson. Their best use was chucking them over walls as the other team pushed up choke points. This was especially effective when the whole squad was in on it.

I think you figured out the secret sauce of Batreps. Even with just ok graphics, the focus on strategy and the story of the game over the mechanics is really compelling. The thinking on the game isn’t diluted by the result for each roll (though we do enjoy the dramatic of the results for the critical results)

usually there is one (on some terrains only one) line, where you must put your Baneblade or even Rogals, otherwise you are stuck. Which means, that you are quite predictable and you can be blocked. It sucks kinda....and you are forced to play units you dont really want to, but you have to

Same here. WTC terrain sucks for Mech Guard, and I've lost more than one game due to not being able to move my vehicles.

Deathstrikes are super situational in terms of damage, but they really do a great job of controlling the flow of battle. Using them to deny lanes of advance to the enemy can blunt a lot of what the enemy wants to do. I'm debating building a guards army specifically to deploy them, because I've seen them turn even an Ork charge into a confused mess.

I am just at the start of the first battle, but in my (limited) experience with the Deathstrike is that it grants you much more use as an area denial weapon than as a damage dealer. I had one in a game against a knight player, and I put the marker for the next turn straight in the path of the Cerastus Lancer, so he had to choose, move less, so he wouldn't be able to charge and risk losing the Knight to my Shadowsword/Macharius Vanquisher or Advance and hope he makes it across the blast area and be stuck in front of those two tanks without the ability to charge. The threat was more than enough to halt his movement and for me to pick apart his army. I never got to fire the Nuke, though 😢

As other people have said: Having multiple deathstrikes really helps with their consistency. 2d6 is an average of 7 with a S.D. of ~2.42, while 6d6 is an average of 21 with a S.D. of ~4.18. So while you are incredibly unlikely to end up rolling 30 overall or something, if you are just relying on your deathstrikes to average 5 or more on their missiles (so 5 for 1, 15 for 3) your probability of getting at least 5 on 2d6 is 83.33%, or a 1/6 chance of being disappointed. While your probability of getting at least 15 on 6d6 is 93.92% or just over a 1/20 or a D&D crit fail. This is more stark when you "just need a little" from them. Getting 4 or more on 2d6 happens 91.67% of the time, so an almost 1/10 chance to fail (and pretty similar to the chance to get 14 or lower on 6d6). While getting 12 or more on 6d6 is a 99.01% chance. As long as you aren't relying on your deathstrikes to roll high and are instead using them for zoning and just want them to reliably do something then having 3 really helps. Just on your example of 1d6+3, while obviously that has a lower average (6.5 vs 7), it means that 4 is a 100% chance, while the 5 in the example is a 83.33% chance. That would bring their consistency very close to running 2 current deathstrikes (97.3% chance for 8 or more on 4d6, 90.28% chance for 10 or more on 4d6. As a note on the max: 1/6 or a 16.666...% chance for 9 on 1d6+3 vs 15.9% chance of 18 or more on a 4d6). Of course the price of this extra consistency, in terms of using 3 deathstrikes instead of 1 to gain it, is that you need to have areas or a density of targets that allows for them to be useful, although thanks to the current structure of 40k games if your enemy isn't presenting that level of density and you don't need to ward them out of any zones then you've effectively won already. I went with 'X or more' since at least when I play that discrete kind of threshold is what I'm factoring into my head. "Okay guys, I'll set you up here and hopefully you can at least do X if they decide to violate the area you are controlling."

As it counts as a debuff to that enemy unit, yes, as it it can no longer get cover anymore what so ever thanks to flush them out and withering hail is a forced +1 ap for all attacks on it

triple Deathstrike strikes me as a hell of a screen over like 2 square feet of board. just target the opponents home objective and 2 mid board objectives and your opponent has CHOICES to make. or, and i think i prefer this, put all of them about 12 inches apart in a triangle and thats a huge area that your opponent either has to not move into, or move out of. especially on one of the "take the middle objective" missions, or if your opponent is playing a castle formation. like in that first game against the eldar in the tournament you went into i think i would have surrounded those Prisms so they had to move them and run them instead of shooting with them to avoid the missiles strike.or definitely get hit by them for a hell of a lot of high strength and damage hits.

Technically, they have an unlimited range, so it is not limited to just that tournament. I remember hearing stories of one tourney in the US getting nuked by a tourney in another store in the UK, with the guard in that store both launching retaliatory deathstrikes, and calling up YET ANOTHER store where a tourney was happening and having them launch.

Listening to tournament reports, I wonder if things have changed since I was last playing over 10 years ago. Most of the tournament players I knew were obnoxious assholes who would try to cheat in casual play, or try-hards with the cheasiest, beardiest lists ever known to man, and few of them were pleasant people.

I enjoy your storytelling style but I wish you would do something different for the shots you do of the whole army. I understand that they may not all fit in frame, but the back and forth panning you do has an odd pendulum motion to it which honestly gives me motion sickness. I usually scroll down to the comments and check back to see if you've stopped yet. The army list videos are particularly difficult in this way. I don't know what your production process is like but you could experiment with some other ideas. You can do a voice over over still images, throw up some powerpoint slides that show the army in a list or take some more dramatic shots like for example shooting from off to the side and zooming in from the lateral. Or stage them on some terrain and shoot that scene, so to speak. Anyway, I enjoy the videos and I think this part could be better. Congrats on your wins.
