The secret is to heavily hand water and soak those dry spot areas. Water the rest like normal. Those areas are stressing out because they are dry.

Thanks man. Really appreciate it. I think I agree, except the constant water adds up where the fungus can be killed with a liquid for much less most the time. I tough decision there for sure.

The trick with hydretain is that you have to treat the lawn BEFORE the real heat arrives or before the grass starts to check out. It won’t do any miracles in bringing back grass that’s already stressing out especially with no “real” rain lately. It’s meant more as a supplement with your watering and to maintain minimal hydration in the lawn. It won’t pull out moisture that isn’t there, especially with the lower humidity we’ve had on the east coast this Spring. It does really well once the humidity starts to kick in full throttle and there’s morning dew and water in the air in general but with an extremely dry past few weeks, it won’t perform as well.

I'm so happy for you, Your perseverance was worth it, That lawn was beautiful before the treatment and the mow. But after, it made me tear up. Very nice. FAITH is a wonderful thing. MAY God continue blessing you, in Jesus name, My brother.

My ortho sprayers measurements aren't accurate. I used 2 different measuring cups and they showed the same, but when poured into the ortho sprayer container it was off by 2 oz. Not sure if it's just mine, or all of them but be cautious when using the marks on the container as they may not be correct.....

I think part of your stress is because of the heavy nitrogen and phosphorus you put down right before the heat. All in all, the lawn looks good when considering the heat and the NPK. Consider a reset, (not putting down anything for a while) and I get it, I’ve been in your position (we need rain!!!).
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 3 жыл бұрын
The nitrogen, yes, but I haven't put any phosphorus down since I seeded. I'd agree though, as I've stated, the nitrogen I did put down certainly has to be considered. We expect temps to dip this weekend, so as time goes I should be ok. Soil test will let me know.

@@MrFergusonLawn Alot of the stressed parts are probably the poa annua dying out as well.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 3 жыл бұрын
@@troymaurer9635 No not really. That just does off on its own. I can clearly see weed vs grass right now. It’s lack of water/rain and mainly summer heat early. A little might be the nitrogen as I’ve mentioned before, but not as much a factor as the heat and no rain.

@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 3 жыл бұрын
I hear you man. Just be really careful about watering at night. It can invite fungus. The temp change and moisture combo. That said though, we do have to get the watering in at some point and if night is the only time you can, totally get it.

Do you think your neighbor's lawn is wicking moisture from your borders? The mulch looked dry also. I think the stress in front is from heat evaporating the moisture from the lawn
@MrFergusonLawn

At that time it has been weeks with 0 rain man. That is the issue, or was. I can water the lawn but that’s just to fill the gap between rain from the clouds. This has officially been the first or second driest Spring in our history so, that tells the story.

See, that being the case for you as well, it makes me think it's not the nitrogen I put down causing all the stress as some believe. It's just high heat and no rain from the heavens that's the issue. Anyways...I'm with you man!

Thanks for commenting Greg. I have to disagree. This was in May, and it was THE driest May in NC history. These are areas that were stressing out from lack of water. We went around 4 weeks or so with no rain, only getting what we put out with sprinklers. And we all know we can't sustain a yard (on city water) by just watering ourselves. We must have rain. These areas haven't looked like this since. The Hydretain did do it's job, however to your point, NOW we are having a lot of fungus because the rain has increased substantially. That I do agree with. I appreciate the comment man, and agree it's been tough this year.

How much water goes down in the 25 min? Have you tried the screw driver test? Maybe there is a giant rock in places. Or in my case concrete I found.

Oh I’m almost sure there is rock in the ground in these places, as they stress first. Also though, I do have KBG so it does need double the water fescue does. Lots of factors and things to consider.
